Nice receptionist, good service, close to downtown
I canceled the room before everything was dirty soon as I got off the elevator, and soon as I walked in the room I walked back out and went downstairs and canceled the reservation
We stayed one night for a concert that was in town. Very clean and comfortable. Conveniently located as well.
I love everything about the hotel from location to cleanliness
Room was very outdated. Shower drain was not working and found multiple cockroaches
Stay in a lot of hotels, this was one of the worst. Building was in terrible disrepair, and rooms were NOT comfortable or clean. We later found out this was the last week before the build was being completed gutted and turned into another hotel. Then everything made sense. Staff was friendly though.
Hopefully, the pending renovations will provide a much better experience for guests in the future.
Though this is not a fancy property and is in need of updates, it was clean and the staff were helpful and there was hot coffee in the foyer in the morning. Easy to park and then walk to area shops and restaurants.
Staff was very rude and ruined the experience.
A year or so ago the group that bought this 1960’s Holiday Inn announced that it would be renovated and return as a Kimpton Hotel.
It has recently opened as a Holiday Inn but prematurely.
The lobby is very nice and our remodeled room had new wall coverings, carpet, beds and bedding. However we immediately noticed the tub facet had water flowing from it and, most likely has had water coming out for a long time as the enamel on the tub is rusted through. The AC/heater must also be of an earlier vintage- on “High” setting it sounded like a twin engine prop plane was directly over head; on “Low” setting, the sound could best be described as rain hitting a metal roof- not conducive to sleep. There wasn’t an iron or ironing board, nor a laundry bag. And there is a definite lack of electrical outlets and no discernible USB ports. The room access for most guests is via a parking garage elevator. The entrance to this elevator itself,( on our stay on one was operational) still looks like a tenement-litter strewn, dirty, and run down.
Perhaps in a year, the elevators will have been remodeled as well as the access points. Perhaps within a year the leaky faucets will be replaced the tubs re-enameled and the climate control systems replaced. Perhaps they’ll change the windows to buffer the street noise. Perhaps they’ll hire a desk clerk who actually knows how to greet and interact with guests. But right now, it’s obvious that the new owners want to start recouping their investment. Unfortunately, for those of us who know the standards that Holiday Inns are supposed to have, this is hotel is not ready.
Outdated.
It is very old and dirty. The bathroom is so small and dirty. The ac and tv did not work. The front desk person was extremely rude and unprofessional. The room smelled. I could go on and on.
Nice staff. Hotel condition very bad, in disrepair.
Elevator was broken. Ac was broken and so loud. Never got sleep. No breakfast. Little soap/shampoo and was not refilled by cleaning workers.
Stayed here for Dreamville weekend and it was a wonderful experience. Check in was seamless and it is right downtown so everything we needed was walking distance.
We booked about a month in advance and when we arrived was told that they gave our room away and there no rooms left. After searching their database, said they had a room available for us. This was at close to midnight. Was not impressed with the staff member who checked us in and felt betrayed by the hotel after traveling from NH to Raleigh. We were told earlier, a late check in was ok.
I don't write many reviews, but after a stay there, I want to let people know that this feels like a shabby, worn hotel — chipped paint, missing tiles in elevator, stained carpets and furniture, etc. Not what I have come to expect from a Holiday Inn (and a $155 room rate). Musty smell. Good location in downtown Raleigh. I found the people who worked there to be pleasant, and I slept well, but next time I will examine other options.
Great place!
It is a unique hotel in its location competing with the big giants of the hotel industry. The locals love this place (at least the few I talked to) and want it to remain. I like the location, as it was close to the State Capitol, the downtown, and some other tourist sites. The female receiptionists were nice and helpful; however, one male receptionist (beige with tattoos all over his body) was very disrespectful. Why? Because the cleaner refused to come and clean my room and he was dismissive about my complaint. The hotel mgt should screen their public-facing staff (receptionist and cleaners) more carefully
I reserved a king room but was given a queen
Front desk staff person wasn't rude but wasn't friendly or welcoming either. Whe seems to always be in a terrible mood
