We had a wonderful time in Newport.
Pros:

The location was great. Very clean and staff very friendly, especially all those working the valet parking.

Cons:

The extra 30 dollars a night for a destination fee was not expected. The fact that you had to use the money in the hotel, I believe was unfair. I believe that the customer should get that money back at the end.

Splendid stay
Pros:

We had a spectacular experience at the Newport Marriott Hotel & Spa. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel truly cared for—especially Ted at the front desk, who went above and beyond to make our brief stay after our wedding feel incredibly special.

The rooms were spotless, well maintained, and offered beautiful water views that made our stay even more memorable. We also enjoyed a couples massage at the spa and left feeling completely relaxed and rejuvenated.

An exceptional experience all around. We couldn’t have asked for a better place to unwind and celebrate such a meaningful moment.

Worst Hotel Room in Newport!
Pros:

I’m a Titanium member and have been a Marriott member since 1999…sadly this is the worst hotel room I’ve ever slept in…and stuck here for four more nights without any help from the front desk or management.

I’m traveling with my disabled father and in a handicapped room. We just had a lovely 5-night experience in a large handicapped room at the Sheraton Portsmouth New Hampshire and are sadly ending the next 5-nights here.

The room is so tiny my dad can barely use his walker to get to/from the bathroom. The bathroom door opens that it blocks the light switch to the bathroom, and prohibits the other person from leaving or opening the main door to the room. Not sure why they didn’t install a pocket door or barn door to allow more space in the room and easy for the disabled person to navigate.

The toilet is very low instead of the higher toilet for a real handicapped room. The bed is so low to the ground and soft we can barely get in and out of the bed. My dad needs my help every time to get up to go to the bathroom…which means I’m getting up whether I want to or not to help him in the middle of the night. The shower doesn’t come with the handicapped seat drilled to the wall, it’s a shower chair which isn’t very solid and again my dad needs my help because he’s afraid the chair is going to collapse. I’m not sure who was in charge of designing the handicapped rooms, but they did a terrible job. It seems the front desk and management are unable to help with any of this…and we are stuck here for 4 more nights, ie. Christmas Eve and Christmas are going to be miserable with crappy sleep and lots of aches and pains. Moral of the story…do not stay at this Newport hotel!

Wonderful Stay
Pros:

We just returned from an overnight stay at the Newport Marriott. We loved our time there. Hotel is conveniently located to Bowens Wharf and Thames Street and there is also the bus line nearby which we used to go to The Breakers. Onsite restaurant and bar are very good. Rooms are quiet, clean and comfortable. We would definitely stay there again!

Thoroughly unpleasant experience
Pros:

Worst, most incompetent and unpleasant service I have ever experienced. A dreadful, depressing place to stay. Working here must be even worse. Stay anywhere else.

Not worth the money.
Pros:

This hotel has done little to none to update their hotel. The one place we were all gathering by Skiffs after our relative’s wedding was beyond disappointment. Old ratty couches and dirty carpeting. I would think the area that everyone is going to see as they enter would be updated and clean.
Furthermore there is only have expensive valet parking and the “free” parking is use at your own risk as per the valet’s comments about homeless people living in the parking garage. When we walked back from our car, yes, there were vagrants and drug garbage in stairwell and even used vials on the ground outside of garage. You would think Marriott and police would address this. Just not acceptable. You want your guests to be safe.
This is by far one of the worst Marriotts we have stayed in. We were here for another wedding in 2023, same issues.
They just keep charging you top dollar for Super 8 accommodations.
Go elsewhere.

Great location in Newport!
Pros:

This review is for a one night stay in the summer and a second night in the fall. Overall, it’s a good property and I would return. The location is unbeatable, right in Newport, on the water and walkable to restaurants and retail. Spacious and clean lobby. Convenient water refill stations on each floor and in the lobby. Beds are comfortable and the rooms are clean, but with a little wear and tear. We could hear our neighbors talking during our second stay and also found the room to be stuffy, even with fan on.

The daily $35 resort fee includes a $20 food and beverage credit. This covered an order of BBQ chicken wings at the Skiff Bar, not including the tip. Very tasty, plus a great view overlooking the water. Hotel parking is expensive, but free at the adjacent public lot from Nov-May (make sure you’re in the public lot vs. the hotel lot).

Platinum Benefits: No room upgrade offered. We chose 750 points for a welcome gift vs. an additional $10 F&B credit. The Lounge is closed on weekends, so we were offered either 1000 points or a voucher for the restaurant’s buffet breakfast. The buffet was ok, but the omelette station is very slow.

Costly with extra fees
Pros:

Great walking distance to restaurants and shops. Rooms were OK but small and the view was not much unless you stood at the corner window and looked the left. The rate was pricey and in combination with the several taxes, valet parking was $40.00 per night ($35.00 per night to park myself off site). An additional fee (which you could not opt out on) was a “Destination Fee” of $35.00 per night which I do not know what it is for. You can receive back $20.00 per night as a credit if used in an on-site restaurant, bar or room service but there were constraints to when it can be used. It seemed that being a Marriott Bonvoy member did not matter except for receiving points.

We stayed at this hotel many years ago prior to being renovated and there were no parking or destination fees. It seems to me that guests are paying for those renovations and the accommodations overall are not worth it.

A great experience ruined by a rude desk manager at checkout this morning.
Pros:

Overall a good experience was ruined by a rude desk manager at check out. I was the sole person checking out this morning (with a very nice associate) and then another person came up behind me to check out. The desk manager came out to meet the other person and, rather than checking him out at one of the three other stations, started staring angrily at me and hovering over the associate. This went on for about seven minutes. It’s was extremely uncomfortable and unnecessary.

Pros:

Rooms and Gym were great

Cons:

I reserved two rooms, one night. Although we arrived together in just one car, we were charged for two parking fees. The total extra charge amounts to $48. I have emailed Marriott asking for the refund, but no answer at all
