Thon Hotel Rosenkrantz

The hotel is literally steps from the Bryggen quayside and the fenicular is at the other end of the street, so great location for tourists. We had a superior room which was well appointed and clean, although odd havoing a duvet each! Reception changed our pillows as my wife is alergic to feathers and very helpful when extendding our check out time. Good to have a wide choice of breakfast before setting off for the day, especially as eating out is quite expensive.

The room is really well appointed. The bed was comfortable and everything spotlessly clean. Not sure what the point was of giving a coffee maker in the room without any instructions or coffee! The room was far too hot. We had to turn the radiator off and open the window .The takeaway breakfast was really poor.

We stayed here for 4 nights, it has a great location, so close to everything, room was very warm and no view, just of the inside of the hotel where there was a noisy industrial extractor fan, which was loud especially in the quiet of night, but because of the heat in the room (we had radiators off) we had no choice but to keep the windows open
Beds were comfortable and room was practical, slightly dated.
Breakfast was a good selection, but sadly cold the only morning it was hot was when we were there at 6.30am for opening .. some beautiful breads though

A wonderful hotel to stay at, and well located to the downtown festivities! The rooms were well appointed, we stayed at the hotel twice and enjoyed both times!

Great location. Wonderful staff. Our room was upgraded to include a larger bathroom, which was nice. We had a nice view from our room. The hallways were very dark. The breakfast had a lot of options, but they did have rotten milk in one of the containers one day, and the oatmeal was cold on other day, but rest of the options were good. We were there for Constitution day and it was really great to be so close.

Location is good, very handy to local sights.

there was lots of choice, really all you would want.
The room was on the small side, but all worked well.

In this hotel we had in the space enough, employess were very helpfulness and friendly; Breakfast was very good too. Best place in Bergen behind Bryggen.

If you’re looking for a well located hotel and an awesome breakfast this is the one, The rooms are comfy, close to everything in Bergen, great staff always catering to the hosts needs. You won’t miss staying at this hotel.

Good all round hotel , lovely plentiful breakfast , good room. Within easy walking distance of Bergen rail station, took us 15 minutes at an easy pace, we’re in our 70s. Excellent restaurants nearby and the Floyben is just around the corner. Will definitely use this hotel again

This is a great hotel, in a fantastic location with a phenomenal buffet.

The hotel is walking distance to almost everything that you would want to see. There are great restaurants in the area also.

The buffet breakfast has everything you might want to eat.

The service is great also- they got us a cab when we needed it, they were very responsive to any of our questions.

The only puzzling thing, that guests might want to know, is that the door won’t lock for a minute or so when you leave but you can use the card key to lock it right away.

It was a great place to stay.

Thon Rosenkrantz Bergem:  This hotel has a great location, right in the old town and close to the water. The train station and the bus station are a 15 minute walk. We had a room on the fifth floor, which was really quiet. No shelves, but it was enough room that it didn't matter. Breakfast was very nice and you could help yourself to everything, very easy. Front desk was helpful. World’s fastest elevators! Small gym. We would definitely stay there again

What a wonderful hotel! Amazing rooms, amazing breakfast and lovely staff. I really enjoyed my stay here, would 100% recommend. The location was superb, right in the centre and next to the UNESCO site Bryggen.

The atmosphere of the hotel is great, plenty of spaces to relax in the reception area with tea and coffee provided. Overall a great hotel.

Can’t wait to come back!

Clean and tidy everywhere. Staff were friendly. More breakfast options than I’d ever seen before. Very tasty

We stayed a total of 3 nights at this hotel and found it to be well situated near Bryggen and good quality rooms, service and breakfast. We chose to take light rail from the airport to downtown but then discovered it was a long walk (with luggage to arrive at the hotel, so we took a cab to the hotel from the end of the light rail). In retrospect, it would have been much easier and only a bit more expensive to take a cab directly from the airport.
We were greeted at the registration desk by a person who spoke excellent English and had our room ready for us.
The room had several windows but we saw no air conditioning thermostat. The outside temperature was very comfortable and this was not a problem for us. The only peculiarity of rooms is the bathtub. I would estimate the edge of the tub to be 30-34 inches above the floor. I measured ours at home at it is only 18”. It was easy to sit on the edge of the tub and slide into the tub to take a shower, but it did require a “balancing act.”

Breakfast was a highlight of our stay. It rivals some of the best we have found anywhere in Europe. 2 large dining rooms provide sufficient seating for a large number of guests. Breakfast choices included, breads, croissants, meats, fruits, cheese, fish, sausage, beans, scrambled eggs, fried eggs, hard boiled eggs, bacon, and cereals. (I’m sure something has been omitted but will add photos so you can make your own observations. One detail, if you are in the “overflow room” ask for directions on how to use the coffee machine. You need to put a packet into the slot and then pull the handle down. I found it to actually be fun to work the coffee machine.

A few words regarding the location of the hotel. It is only a block above Bryggen (the Old Hansa part of Bergen). We found it convenient to exit the front door, take a right and then walk down the ramp to the beginning of Bryggen. Our walk took less than 2 minutes to get to the waterfront.
Walk up the ramp, turn right at the street and then a few blocks and you are at the Floibahn (funicular to the top of the mountain).

In summary, you will find Bergen hotels at a cheaper price, but it would be hard to equal the quality of food and location of hotel. The staff was excellent and we will definitely stay here again the next time we are in Bergen.

Breakfast buffet outstanding

Great location and great breakfast. Everything close to hand. Loads of nearby restaurants suiting all tastes. Bergen…what a lovely town! Great place to stay ahead of our Havila voyage.
