⭐☆☆☆☆ Disappointing Stay – Sadly Not the Standard We Expected
Our recent stay at the Fisherman's Cot was extremely disappointing and unfortunately fell well below our expectations.
On arrival, we were told that only a continental breakfast was included and that we would have to pay extra for a cooked breakfast, despite having booked and paid for breakfast for both mornings. This information turned out to be incorrect, but we didn't discover that until our final morning.
The room itself was also a let-down. It had clearly not been cleaned properly, with dead flies on the windowsill, cobwebs in the bathroom and behind the television, and the overall condition of both the room and the building looking tired and poorly maintained. I reported the cleanliness issues and was assured the room would be cleaned again while we were out. On returning later that evening, only the dead flies had been removed; the cobwebs and other issues remained.
Breakfast on the first morning was particularly disappointing. The continental selection was very limited, consisting mainly of toast, croissants, pain au chocolat and basic cereals. The fruit available looked well past its best, and there were no yoghurts or much variety.
The biggest disappointment came on our second evening in the bar. While waiting to be served, I witnessed another customer being told there would be a 45-minute wait for food. She briefly asked her husband whether they wanted to wait and returned within seconds to politely decline. The young barman reacted by saying, "F*** my life," loud enough for everyone nearby to hear, including my six-year-old granddaughter. I found this completely unprofessional and unacceptable. When I challenged his behaviour, the manager, who was standing beside him, said nothing. When I was eventually served, there was no greeting, no courtesy, and no professionalism.
The only real positive from our stay was Lil, who served us on our final morning.
The whole place needs a complete overhaul - it is extremely shabby. I just couldn't believe it
The view
Slightly dilapidated
Loved location
Loved rooms outside and not upstairs
Lovely food and drinks
Peaceful and quiet
Rooms a bit basic for price
The location was lovely by the river. Not too noisy either
The place is very tired. The room was not the cleanest and the fittings all in need of replacement.
Beautiful site looking over the river, we had dinner and breakfast and both were delicious. The room was easy to access and comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful.
Not enough staff, to support bar and restaurant so you did have to wait alot and public toilets were not pleasant.
Nothing
Very tired, felt like it had not been maintained in years
Beautiful setting and room to enjoy the weather and an overnight stay before our onward travel
The service was quite slow in the evening and limited at breakfast albeit friendly
Loved location and patio doors ooened up to a lovely little garden, nice big comfy bed, Beautiful bathroom
The food in the pub wasnt to our taste
Relaxed
Pictures make the waterfront look larger than it is .
Outside seating could do with cushions
The staff, especially the young lady who checked us in and seemed to be doing everything, were friendly and helpful.
It is in a stunning location on the banks of the Exe, with plenty of parking. The breakfast was enjoyable
The accommodation is pretty tired and run down. We had to report a wasp nest over the patio door, and there was a rodent scratching in the wall at around 4:30am. There was no TV remote, although the team tried hard to resolve this. The room was booked for 2, but only one towel was left in the room.
Location
Waited at the bar to long and steak was very fatty
Staff very helpful
Beautiful location
Everything
Friendly staff, lovely location and atmosphere, excellent food .
Room was clean but did have some maintenance issues, particularly the bathroom in which had lots of water damage and some mould issues.
This hotel was absolutely fantastic. It is set in a peaceful location by the river with beautiful views, and having such an amazing pub right downstairs was a huge bonus. I honestly don’t think you could find a better place in the area in terms of location, facilities, and the delicious breakfast.
The owner was always welcoming, attentive, and happy to help with anything I needed. The room was very comfortable and had everything I could ask for during my stay.
I stayed here for two nights, but I truly wish I could have stayed longer. I would definitely love to come back one day.
