Another Successful Texas Journey
Pros:

Driving thru Texas to Colorado. Amarillo is always a good stopping spot. This Hotel is well located on IH 40 for travelers. Very comfortable beds. Thanks.

While Marriott properties are typically a great stay with modern, updated rooms, I was surprised by the location of this one. The hotel is situated in a part of town that didn’t feel particularly safe, with transients lingering around the property and no visible parking lot security. Some areas of the property were well-lit, while others were quite dim, which added to the concern. Given the surroundings and lack of security presence, the price felt too high for the location. Unfortunately, this Marriott did not meet the expectations I’ve come to associate with the brand.

Average accommodations w/ exceptional staff
Pros:

This hotel is fairly average for basic overnight accommodations with a hot and cold breakfast included. Room was very clean; however, A/C did not adequately keep room cool overnight. The staff were exceptional in terms of friendliness and desire to make our stay enjoyable. We were able to check-in earlier than normal due to Marriott elite status.

Only note of caution is with regards to parking. As a friendly reminder, please take all valuables with you as there was a vehicle broken into overnight via drivers window that was parked next to us (spaces close to I-40). We reported to hotel staff upon our departure.

Nothing really wrong, but nothing to make us want to stay there again either...

The hotel is oddly co-located with another chain hotel, sharing parking, pool and other public areas. In the corridors, the carpet changes pattern when you cross the boundary between the two facilities. We went to the wrong reception area, and had to drive to the correct desk to get checked in.

The building is reasonably well maintained, but its age is showing for example in the 1960's era lowered ceilings in the public areas. The room decor is newer, but has a dorm room feel to it. Breakfast would have been okay if the serving dishes had been refilled. Breakfast seating was extremely limited.

The location is good, with several chain restaurants nearby, but the neighborhood is mostly older, light commercial buildings and is beginning to look a litle seedy.
