It was decent for the price. We came for a soccer tournament and the location was great. It wasn't far from the fields.
The room seemed outdated and the extensions didnt work on the phone to call the front desk and the restaurant. The bartender at the time was not very friendly but the rest of the staff was we encountered was nice.
Location.
bad room maintenance, the bed was vibrating! I didn't like it ,very noisy
My big thank you for the reception on Wednesday morning who allowed me to check in early after my train ride. I loved the hotel location along the Kanawha River, which I could also admire from my room. The hotel from the ground floor up felt like you were in a comfortable apartment, and it was surely helped by all the friendly staff. I had a really nice breakfast with potatoes, sausages, fried eggs, and coffee. It was a warm place in the middle of wintery December in West Virginia.
Clean, friendly staff & we liked the location. Easy walking to restaurants & places downtown, plus the view of the river was nice.
i appreciated that there was a shuttle that we could use while staying at the hotel. my son wrestled at the coliseum, and it was nice to be able to have a ride to and from while there.
when i inquired about housekeeping when our room wasn’t cleaned, i was told that they only cleaned every other day, or every third day for extended stays. we booked friday to sunday, so that meant that we would have what we walked into, and they’d clean when we left. in my experience in other hotels, at MINIMUM, trash was taken and fresh towels were given. before leaving my room saturday for the day, i had bagged all of the trash and gathered dirty towels and placed them into the bathtub to be taken and exchanged for clean ones. i even let the housekeeper in the hallway know as i passed her on my way out that i had gathered up the trash and towels for her to grab.
when my room wasn’t cleaned, i had to take it upon myself to take my own trash downstairs and to the dumpster. we had ordered pizza the first night, so there were pizza boxes, as well as bagged up trash that i had bagged into grocery bags since none of the cans had trash bags inside. they said that they didn’t use those trash bags anymore and basically dumped the trash into a large bag when cleaning rooms — which again, they didn’t do daily.
when i asked about getting clean towels for the room, i was told that i had to bring down my dirty towels to the front desk to exchange for new ones. so, at 10-11 pm, after spending hours at a wrestling event, i have to bring a handful of dirty towels downstairs in front of a lobby full of people gathering together and drinking, to exchange for clean towels that should’ve been provided hours prior.
i think it’s safe to say that i won’t be booking again, and neither will my friends and family members who stayed at this hotel and shared similar experiences.
The location was exceptional. Walking distance to many food options and the civic center.
We stayed for 3 days and housekeeping never entered the room to remove trash, replace towels or replace bedding. We called the front desk and requested for housekeeping to replace towels but they said no towels were available. They did however state that if we walked the dirty towels down to the front desk, they would see if any clean towels were available. My wife took a pile of dirty towels and linens to the front desk only to be told that they don’t have anything available. She disputed their claim and they ended up giving her fresh towels. We booked a double bed suite and the ventilation in the room, especially the bathroom was awful. Housekeeping never came to empty our trash cans so the smell in the room combined with the humidity from the bathroom made the air thick and unbearable at times. I had to prop the main door open just to get the smell and humidity out of the room. There was trash and discarded food waste in the elevators but the property was otherwise decently maintained. We called for room service after a long day only to be told that room service isn’t available. We were told if we wanted food, we’d have to walk downstairs to the bar. No problem with that, however, we ordered our food at the bar only to wait about over an hour because there was an issue with communication between the bar and the kitchen. Not a big deal because we had good company and the bartender was great, however, after we got the food we went back upstairs to the room only to realize that the refrigerator wasn’t working. I called the front desk and they said maintenance wasn’t available. We were told that we’d be put on a list for the following day but no one showed. My kids stated the pool water was not very clean.
