Location
The elevators kept on breaking down. The common areas other than lobby area were untidy and dirty. All guests checking out had to use emergency stairs. Reception staff not sympathetic. And my case broke as a result
Working as a photographer during Charleston Wine + Food Festival at The Mills House Hotel was a reminder of why this property continues to remain such an iconic part of Charleston’s hospitality landscape.
The atmosphere throughout the property felt warm, polished, and exceptionally welcoming, especially during a week where the city was filled with chefs, creatives, industry professionals, and visitors from all over. Despite the pace and volume of activity that naturally comes with Charleston Food and Wine, the staff remained gracious, attentive, and accommodating throughout the experience.
What many people may not realize is how well The Mills House handles movement and guest flow during large-scale events. From a photographer’s perspective, that matters tremendously. The transitions between spaces felt smooth, the lighting throughout the property remained inviting and consistent, and the overall energy managed to feel both lively and intimate at the same time.
The historic character of the hotel paired beautifully with the elevated atmosphere of the festival, creating an experience that felt distinctly Charleston, sophisticated, social, and effortlessly charming.
For anyone visiting Charleston for weddings, culinary events, or luxury weekend experiences, The Mills House offers an environment that feels both timeless and welcoming in all the right ways.

Tolle Lage, Personal eher unfreundlich und unpersönlich
The hotel was fantastic and the city has such a great appeal. The location to other areas of the city was great. The room was very nice and clean. The service was very professional.
Delightful stay! Beautiful property. Excellent service beginning with the Valet, to check in, the restaurant, house cleaning, restaurant, coffee shop, and pool bar. Everyone attentive, friendly and helpful. Our room was comfortable and although not large, very well laid out. I appreciate the in room steamer. Every part of the property is really lovely. Modern amenities within a restored historic environment. I enjoyed sitting on the front terrace for coffee and love that yoga is offered there in the morning. We had the best pimento cheese appetizer at the Iron Rose along with a delicious lunch. Lounging by the rooftop pool with Frosee’s was the icing on the cake! And the location was ideal for walking to restaurants, activities downtown. We will be back!
Beautiful property pleasant staff, but it was frustrating having only one elevator my entire stay.
Location was vey nice and hotel lovely. The second stay af our trip at the hotel was difficult. Elevators not working- used the freight elevator. Bed gve me anincredible bavck ache both nights. Housekeeping staff were great.
Room was nice, but inaccurate billing. They billed us for Valet Parking ($177) and refused to refund the fee. We told them 3 weeks before stay we didn't need it (they said they would cancel it). At check-in we reminded them to remove the fee, they said they would (they didn't). At checkout, we said something again, they said they would take care of it (they actually billed us another $177 ($354 total)). We have spent over 4 hours tying to get a refund. The front desk dumps us in accountings voicemail. Accounting doesn't answer their phone or emails. Proceed with caution.
Have stayed here many times, location is perfect. Rooms are beautiful. Afternoon champagne is a nice touch. All staff is great. Shout out to Noelle at front desk, always recognizes us as diamond members, she is an amazing addition to this property.
Comfortable and roomy bedroom
Tiny bathroom, showered head too low for me , sliding bathroom frosted door which didn’t close or lock ; really stupid design , all
Light sound and odour enters the bedroom!
A lot of street noise; poor quality double glazing doesn’t block out noise.
Too many functions and external people in hotel; lobby like a train station; restaurant closed one evening and following morning for a private function so no breakfast available!
Very disappointing and very expensive !
This is the best hotel in Charleston with an outstanding location and staff!! First, it is simply beautiful, with access to everywhere in Charleston . The vibe is classy and relaxing. You are greeted with a smile and a cold glass of champagne every afternoon, topped with a top notch restaurant and a relaxing patio area. We were treated so special by Elizabeth, she went out of her way to accommodate us multiple times. The beds were comfortable and the hotel was quiet at night. The staff greeted us by name, including Akelia who’ve gave us the most helpful instructions and insights to seeing the historical sights. This will be my go to hotel every time I visit Charleston
Nothing
There are three eateries here and they are all top notch. The room and amenities are superior to anyone else. You are close to museums, other restaurants, and charming things to do. The city has the best clothing stores, art galleries, and antiques stores of which none disappoint. I could live here!
While we very much liked the hotel but our visit got off to a poor start. First there was one check in person and we waited about ten minutes, eventually a second person showed up and took a person who just walked up. We asked where the 30 overview of Charleston started as this was our first time there and we made an effort to be there by 6pm to go it. We were told they no longer offer that even though we got an email the week before touting it. Next one of the elevators was not working and there was a line waiting for a cab. When we got to our room we got a welcome text saying that we had a 15 credit as Diamond members but the check-in clerk told us 20 credit (which turned out to be correct)
Once we got settled the room was very nice as were the pool and common areas. Also really liked that I could grab a quick breakfast bite at the Black Door
The hotel is beautiful. The issue I had is that there is nowhere to go for a quiet sit, without sound/music. Except..the front porch. But, there is no love shown, or attention to detail and comfort. The rocking chairs are great, but the cushions are horrible. One cannot sit back in the chair. The very small pillow is uncomfortable, and not tall enough to lean back on. Get some great seat, and high-back, cushions, and that's a good place to relax. It's the only quiet spot in the entire hotel. Does there always need to be noise? Perhaps if the music was relaxing and classical, but it's not.
After Day 1, we never got a bathmat, nor were the dirty glasses (champagne) taken.
The front-desk ladies were great, but the coffee cafe lacked warmth. Do you want it, "Yes or No???" Kind of rude.
But, Charleston was beautiful, and the weather was perfect.
Pam Gerbitz, Room 708.
My husband and I took our first trip to Charleston to celebrate our anniversary. The hotel was beautiful! It’s in the perfect location. There are countless restaurants and stores within walking distance. The staff was wonderful. We will definitely be back!
Just a lovely time and beautiful hotel
The location of the hotel was wonderful, and the room was roomy and comfortable.
We had a wonderful stay at Mills House. A beautiful hotel located in a great location. Everyone working here is friendly and helpful. Highly recommended!
The Mills House is located in the heart of the old Charleston French Quarter. Our room had a veranda next to the pool. The bed was comfortable but the bathroom was a bit small. The staff were well trained and all were personal. They had our room available early on arrival and awarded us a late checkout. The entire property was beautiful and clean. The pool music played late into the evening, but I had no trouble sleeping. The breakfast restaurant was excellent. The two women at the check-in desk, the tall bellman, and Abby at the Iron Rose restaurant were especially helpful and friendly.
