Holiday Inn Roanoke-Tanglewood-Rt 419&i581 by IHG

This hotel was perfect for our stay. Had amazing mountain views, close proximity to a ton of great restaurants. Straight shot to Salem Civic Center (for our concert); 13 mins away. The staff was nice, however they have one major flaw. We came in on Friday afternoon at 2:30. I checked with the female receptionist to see if we could check in early and she said no, which was not an issue at all. I wait til 3, walk back up to the desk and the guy at the counter was beside her on the phone with management telling them that rooms were showing as available online that were not available. I was immediately worried that we had been double booked....Get to the lady and she says she can't check me in to check back at 4. (check in time is 3pm for this location). Again, no huge issue. My husband and I go eat down the road and come back. No there are at least 10-15 other people waiting to check in. I ask what is going on and if we can check in and she avoids answering the first question and says I still cannot check in. Around 4:45, someone FINALLY lets us know that the California Golden Bears Football Team had reserved the hotel and didn't leave the premises until 4:30pm, which caused housekeeping a delay in getting rooms ready for a timely check in for us. That is fine, what is not fine was the lack of transparency. The fact that they couldn't tell anyone until 5pm what the "hold up" was. AND THEN we were told that we couldn't check in to rooms until 9pm. We drove almost 4 hours from home to this hotel, had to get ready for our concert in the lobby (hope everyone enjoyed watching me curl my hair lol), and then were still not reassured that we would even have a room to come back to when we got back from our concert. This hotel has the potential to be an amazing place to stay, but they need to learn how to be transparent with their guests, and then when something like this happens (at no fault of the guest) offer the guests some kind of compensation or something for their trouble. Had it not been for the fact that the hotel was very nice, that the staff was kind (for the most part), and the location was perfect, I would have given this location way more stars. It seemed like and isolated event, and I hope they learn to mitigate future situations like this better.

I’m not sure why the score is so low because this hotel was good. I was visiting for a funeral and my early check in was granted. The front desk attendant was welcoming. The room was clean and accommodating. Everything I needed was a short drive. There was plenty of free parking. The beds were comfortable and the linens were clean. I would stay at this location again.

The room was very clean and the beds were super comfortable. Hubby and I had a "local" night away with no kiddos and it was peaceful. Slightly disappointed in the shower, the shower head was dirty and it squealed when turned on. Otherwise, our stay was wonderful!

Decent place, but zero character. Usually HI Expess and HI's have some cute charm. This feels void and bland. The rooms are fine, good bed and pillow selections au usual. decent bathroom. Walls are a little thin, and I can hear rooms next door. Easy late check in. Nice reception, easy parking. The A/C didn't get down to the temp i wanted it at, so i didn't sleep well. A little noise from the hallway.

Very nice pool area, super friendly staff, awesome housekeepers and relatively quiet hallways. Easy and convenient dining and entertainment options within walking distance!

The reason for the terrible rating despite the excellent conditions is that I was there for a convention half an hour into the quote about half an hour into the convention. We received word that we were being thrown out. The convention was canceled. I have gotten your money back, but still, it was by no fault of our own. It was because of the hotel.

Great place to stay for Traveling nurse like me. Newly renovated hotel and great staff. Fair rate for traveling personnel like myself.

My husband had just had a hip replacement and the staff at the front desk were helful in freezing his icepacks since the fridge in the room did not have a freezer component.

Good hotel. Nice location. Near mountains and lots of good choices for dining. Nice equipped room and clean. Staff was courteous.
