Birch Hill Suites Grand Rapids

The place has potential, but needs a lot of work. They were just bought out and our suite needed a lot of cleaning. On first glance it looks nice but the floors were grimy and everything was worn and falling apart

Where do I start!
The room I was assigned upon check in had a broken chair and multiple COCKROACHES in it. I immediately went to the front desk to request another only to be met with the most unpleasant manager I've ever encountered. He told me he doesn't change rooms for people because of what THEY could be bringing in with them in their own luggage!!! I then informed him that's exactly why I would like another room. I didn't take a single item in with me as I looked over the room so that was irrelevant to me. He then stated he usually doesn't do this ( "This" being the fact that he would assign me another room) because they don't have to but here you go. He gave me another room right upstairs from the first one. WHEN I TELL YOU THIS IS THE WORST POSSIBLE HOTEL TO STAY AT, I DEFINITELY MEAN IT!!!! Walked up the stairs to a giant trash bag right in front of the room. Open the door...Smelled horrible! Looked horrible!! Was horrible!!!!
Upon entering the room you could still smell the dog or dogs that had been there prior to me. The curtains looked like they had urine and feces from the animals, they had been shredded apart, and to top it off they hardly covered the windows!!! The floors were sticky and clearly had not been cleaned in ages. The table tops and counters were all disgusting! The walls were so dirty it looked like this was a huge animal cage if you ask me. The bathroom was horrendous. The walls, the door, the shower/tub, and the shower curtain all had what appeared to be mud and paw marks splattered throughout. The vents in the room were deplorable, covered in thick sheets of dark dirty dust and fur all with dryer sheets tucked inside
( Like that was supposed to help ANYTHING! ) The bed had a giant plastic bag around it, No fitted sheet or blanket....They had two flat sheets on the bed and one dirty sheet inside the pull out couch!!
When I went to the front desk to complain, there was NO ONE to be found.

Over booked!! No help getting another place to stay!!

Strong & stale cigarette smell was overpowering -sticky floors & presence of carpet beetle larva on the couch (and later found on clothing), condition of property was poor/unkept, loud residents who kept doors open, limited parking, limited availability of office staff-seemed sketchy

Everything is broken. Sliders dont lock, pieces of cabinets broken off, dishwasher flooded kitchen, most rooms have 2 microwaves, a built in one thats broken and counter top that is usually broken. Ask for replacement or it to be fixed it takes forever. Laundry is 350 wash and 350 to dry. Pool broken for over a year. Turn over rate fIr management. Often told how the process of check in and out is different per staff member.

This area was scary, the people that were in area were very scary, it wasn't a place where people stay and leave, people low income people were living there with bad vehicles & no teeth and I couldn't tell if they were on drugs, we did not feel safe & wasn't sure if our rental jeep would still be in tact in the morning, we left our key in room & went to get a different room at another hotel closer to airport & a nicer place... I suggest no one stay here...uugh.... it needs to be cleaned up bad... people shouldn't be living there.

They overbooked and gave away our rooms without any notice.

I set up a late arrival time because my crew was coming in late-after working a full day-after a 3 & 1/2 hour drive (Macomb/Port Huron local).

I tried to ensure that they would have an easy and seamless check-in by calling in for a credit card authorization form to pay the security deposit. In the conversation I let the GM know all of this at the time. He seemed very helpful, walked through the process start-to-finish with me and made sure we were all-set for arrival. Nothing out of the ordinary, I book overnights for my crew several times a month.

The front doors to the office are closed for Sunday

Our room was dirty and bathroom was dirty dog hair everywhere and it was roaches in the room we stayed
