The bed.
The condition of the room itself was a major disappointment. As someone who has worked in housekeeping, I understand the difference between normal wear and tear and a room that simply hasn’t been properly maintained.
The room had visible dust, dirt and debris behind the toilet, a spider and web, and an electrical outlet missing its cover plate. While those issues were disappointing, the biggest concern was the jacuzzi. The tile surrounding it was chipped, broken, and loose in several places, leaving extremely sharp edges.
While changing clothes, I lightly brushed my hand against one of the broken tiles and sliced my finger open badly enough that it bled all over the tub and surrounding floor tiles. We were also traveling with our 3year old daughter, so I ended up taping over the broken tiles because I was genuinely worried she could cut herself as well. After paying nearly $500 for a two-night stay, I should never have had to create my own temporary safety fix in a hotel room to protect my child.
After the incident, I looked through previous reviews and found multiple guests had reported these same broken tiles months ago, with management acknowledging the issue in their responses. It was frustrating to see that a known safety hazard still had not been repaired.
When we brought the injury and safety concern to the front desk’s attention, we were told the only compensation they could offer was 50% off a future stay because my card information was supposedly not on file. Which was incorrect, considering my card information was required when I made the reservation when the room was paid for and then again at check-in. The staff were looking directly at our reservation while telling us the card information wasn’t there. Regardless, a discount on a future stay was not a meaningful resolution. We were visiting from out of state, are unlikely to ever be in the area again, and after this experience, we would not choose to stay here again.
This was one of the worst hotel stays I've experienced. Reading the owner/manager's responses to negative reviews is frustrating because they do not reflect the experience we had at AmericInn by Wyndham Reedsburg. I would be very cautious about booking here, especially on weekends when rates are significantly increased due to events such as the Monroe County Fair in Tomah or overflow tourism from the Wisconsin Dells.
The most serious issue was that there was no hot water for morning showers. It appeared that hot water, if available at all, was effectively on a first-come, first-served basis. When we checked out before 7:00 a.m., we were told that "everyone showered at once" and that we could shower now. That explanation was not credible. I invited the front desk clerk to accompany me back to the room to verify the lack of hot water, but he declined, denied my request for a partial refund, told me the manager would call later that day, but no call ever came. My follow-up email requesting an adjustment was also ignored. The parking lot was still full when we left, making the explanation even more difficult to believe. A hotel room without hot water is simply unacceptable.
Check-in also got off to a terrible start because the lobby was so loud with children screaming that we could barely hear the front desk clerk. Staff made no apparent effort to restore order, and the breakfast area was left open after breakfast hours where it became a play area instead of a space for guests.
The room itself was poorly maintained and not thoroughly cleaned. We were given an accessible room, which we did not want due to the shower configuration (which became a moot issue). The shampoo, conditioner, and soap dispensers were to the back and so high that a disabled person would not be able to reach them.
There was no ice bucket or alarm clock. Furniture surfaces were dirty, the HVAC filter was caked with dust, paint was peeling in the bathroom, the area around the toilet was filthy, the room was left with an almost-empty roll of toilet paper and one spare, and the bathroom faucet handle needed repair.
I took photos that show numerous maintenance and cleanliness issues, including rust and grime around the lamp's electrical outlets and base, a chipped and peeling lampshade, peeling paint around the bathroom mirror, rust, grime buildup and debris around the toilet and plumbing fixtures, grime around the grab bars, a dusty light bulb, what appeared to be a missing smoke detector with exposed wiring, and an HVAC filter so clogged with dust that it clearly had not been serviced in quite some time. These are not cosmetic issues—they point to a lack of routine cleaning and maintenance.
The television setup was also unacceptable. A smaller portable TV had been placed in front of the original wall mount, leaving the larger mounting bracket sticking up behind it. It was distracting and awkward to watch. When I mentioned it, the response was simply, "Did it work?"
None of these are unreasonable expectations—they're basic housekeeping, maintenance, safety, and guest service standards. Based on this experience, I would not stay here again or recommend this property.
Management and Wyndham Customer Care declined to resolve these issues; the offer conveyed to Customer Care by AmericInn Reedsburg of a complimentary stay at the same hotel is not an acceptable resolution. A complimentary stay at any AmericInn is unacceptable. A resolution before we left was denied and also unacceptable.
La comodidad, la
Limpieza
Un poco lo básico del desayuno pero no estuvo mal
Staff was very friendly
Parking lot not big enough
Easy to find, pet friendly
Cleanliness, issues with keycards not working
Great convenient location to gas stations, food options and downtown. Beds were very comfy. The king room was larger than most and very comfortable.
We were on the first floor and we noticed a smell of must. The room smelled damp and not fresh.
I like that it was pet friendly for my sons service animal and they had a clean pool and hot tub. The breakfast was decent as well.
I didn’t like all the dog poop outside that pet owner’s didn’t pick up as i stepped in some when I was walking outside, I didn’t like the fact that a dog next door was barking all night long and made it hard for me and my kids to sleep or the people upstairs from me that had kids running hard on the ground making noise up until 2am. The chair in our room was extremely stained and gross and there were people in the parking lot tailgating and smoking weed, which I was able to smell through my window and that’s definitely not cool when I have children. The staff were nice but could have done a better job at making sure people who bring pets keep there pets calm and maybe go around the building to make sure dog poop gets picked up or charge the person who doesn’t pick up there dog poop. Maybe adding a stand with free dog poop bags would help encourage people to pick it up.
