Not the worst but not the best
Pros:

Bed was comfortable

Cons:

We had an abundance of ants in the bed, bathroom, shower, kitchen. They were in our belongings. Our room was never cleaned when we were there. The light fixture in the shower was broken and would flicker on and off when we were in the shower or using the restroom. It wasn’t the worst experience but not the best. The staff was informed and said they could not give me a discount

Excellent value
Pros:

This felt like a somewhat older property with multiple 2 story units (second story accessed by stairs) in a grouping. The room was large, clean, had recycling bins, and good lighting although the microwave didn't work. The breakfast buffet was more extensive than most locations, and unlike most Marriotts we've been in, stainless steel silverware rather than plastic was used!!!

Poor Management
Pros:

I was very happy with the front desk people, and a special shout out to Carmella and Matthew who worked with us to resolve a major issue, but unfortunately the manager Tohnia Miller did everything she could to undermine them. When our air conditioning broke, she did not apologize and did not even suggest to move us or comp us the stay. She offered to buy two portable units which helped lower our room from 84 degrees to a reasonable 74 by the time we went to sleep. I understand there are issues in an old hotel, but when the manager says "we have old systems and sometimes they break" and does very little until we have to ask over and over is not what I would expect from Marriott. Until Marriott resolves the issues with the lack of empathy of customer service from its Manager Tohnia, I would avoid. I feel bad for the rest of the staff who are incredible but stuck under her poor leadership.

Version 1 Residence Inn
Pros:

At the time, we thought the location was too far from downtown central but it was not. It seemed to serve the medical center very near by, due to the guests that were in scrubs. So the vibe was very relaxed. All of the units appear to be outdoor entry, more like a motel, 2 floors with stairs for upper. It is under new management as of our visit and they are in process of renovating the dated rooms. The front desk was very friendly and helpful. They have a cool ID-Buzz Volkswagen shuttle bus. the room was very large with a wood burning fireplace I didn't try. Second floor with balcony with French doors. There's a garden, and outdoor pool which wasn't open yet. People were using the hot tub but I didn't. Bed was nice with a Pendleton blanket, heat worked fine (SF is at 7000ft elevation,) slept great.
Breakfast was excellent, with plenty of carnivorous choices, and the manager walked around and we had a long pleasant chat. Even though everything at the property was a bit dated, it actually had the vibe of the Santa Fe we remembered in the 90's, which is good. We'd go back. Based on the reviews, and our good experience at this property, we're glad we didn't go to the Posada as an alternative.

Great stay in a newly renovated room
Pros:

I was very happy with our 1 night stay at the hotel in May 2026. Check-in was fast and friendly and they gave us a map showing exactly where to park and enter the room. We were in #321 which was on the 2nd floor so you did have to carry your luggage up 2 sets of stairs (with a landing in the middle). The front desk even called 15 minutes later to make sure everything looked good in the room. I haven't seen that since pre-COVID days!!

The room itself was very large, about the size of my apartment. There was a living room upon entry with a couch (that turned into a bed), a chair, and a kitchen. There was also a bedroom (with doors that closed) with a king bed and en-suite bathroom. Off the kitchen were stairs that went to the 2nd floor with another bed (looked to be king size but maybe queen) and another bathroom. The bed upstairs was a loft so opened to the living room/kitchen.

Breakfast the next morning was great, they even had gluten-free bagels so my wife could have them. There is a menu on the board and the hot breakfast food is different every day along with breads, cereals, and the waffle maker.

Upon checkout they told us we had been in a newly renovated room. Everything was very nice and I would definitely stay here again. I'm not sure how the older rooms are, but the renovated room was excellent. The only 2 drawbacks were that the clock in the bedroom was very bright with no brightness control but easily fixed with a washcloth on top of the clock and stairs could be potential issue, but you could ask for 1st floor or help moving bags.

I would definitely recommend staying here.

Do not be misled by high ratings—this hotel is in total disrepair.
Pros:

I wanted to warn others: do not believe the positive reviews here. While I want to acknowledge the front desk and breakfast staff—who are incredibly pleasant and hardworking—the actual condition of this hotel is a disgrace to the Marriott name.
The room was filthy and run-down. There were hard, dark spots ground into the rugs, and the couch arms were so stained I wouldn’t even sit on them. The kitchen sink had a ring of mildew around the soap dispenser (which didn't work), and the tub drain was rusted. It’s the kind of place where you don’t dare take your shoes off. Even the courtyard and grounds were poorly maintained. Management and Marriott Inc. should be ashamed of letting this property fall into such despair.
