A lovely hotel near the airport with a beautiful pool area. We had difficulty accessing WiFi on our iPhones, but the front desk staff were incredibly helpful and got us connected. We were a bit disappointed with the quality of the food in the restaurant, but our standard king bed room was spacious and comfortable. High praise for the entire staff!
Lovely hotel, food and drinks at the restaurant were amazing only thing that was missing was a bartender at the swim up pool bar neither of the days we were there.

This facility is beautiful, and the rooms are nice!

The food at the restaurant is good, and the servers are friendly. The meals average about $20USD per person per meal.
Free coffee/tea in room
This DoubleTree offers roundtrip shuttle to/from the airport. The shuttle van picks up near the third bridge in the ground transportation area. Please bring cash to tip the driver, and FIRMLY DECLINE the taxi hustlers waiting for newly arrived travelers.
CONS:
No fridge in the room.
No complimentary bottles of water in the room.
No microwave in the room. It can be requested during/after check-in.
The plates from the restaurant don’t fit in the microwave.
If you visit San Josè, and plan to participate in the “things to do” activities advertised by Expedia, I’d suggest lodging downtown instead as it is the meeting place for most activities. Otherwise, one roundtrip taxi fare to/from the downtown San José area was about $50USD (not including tip).
Downtown is about 10mins away, but due to traffic can take about 30-40mins to arrive at the destination.
SAFETY:
I would not recommend San Josè for single, female travelers/solo travelers, female travelers with no males present.
I noticed some things about the city/area and airport shuttle experience that reminded me of the movie TAKEN. For this reason, I’d suggest traveling with no less than a party of 5 people and/or at least one MALE traveler!

The staff at checkin were great. The airport shuttle is convenient. There’s a food mart across the road, with a couple of restaurants.
The club lounge not worth it, service poor, only selection was a couple of apples, selection of nut bars and terrible pastries, “McDonald type machine” for fizzy drinks and coffee. Not worth the money. The dining selection no better, season less and tasteless food.
Cherry on top was the toilet/ WC blocked three times in two days. Other patriots complained of blocked toilets as well!- infrastructure seriously needs an update! Could not regulate the aircon, had to get the technician to switch it off.
Would not recommend this hotel at all.

This was a great property. Had a Costa Rican feel to it with the amenities you expect in a Doubletree. Beautiful pool and delicious resataurant. They even had a theme night-Italian-while we were there!

I enjoyed my time at Doubletree Hotel in Carirari in Costa Rica. The property is really unique and the openness gave the hotel such an great vibe. While the property was a little dated, the hotel was clean and the staff were very friendly. The hotel was close enough to take an Uber to downtown San Jose to see some of the sites. The hotel has a shuttle for drop off and pick up at the airport. I highly recommend this hotel if you're staying in the San Jose area.
