I would strongly advise against staying at Hotel California in Budapest. My experience was disappointing from start to finish. Upon arrival, I was greeted with an unbearable odor in the room. The bathroom had a flooded floor, and the carpet was soaked. The cupboard door was hanging by a single hinge, and the TV had no remote. The bedding was far from clean, with noticeable black stains on the pillow, and there was even a hole in the door. To top it all off, the evenings were filled with a constant, disturbing noise coming from the roof, making it impossible to relax.
This hotel did not meet basic standards of cleanliness or comfort, and I regret booking my stay here.
I had to do a quick booking for an overnight stay as my return bus was canceled.
They were nice at arrival, despite that i had to pay cash they said that everything with the invoice will be managed by e-mail but I never received it.
The room smelled as if somebody had smoked previously in the room. There were no towels in the bathroom. The room was facing a busy street hence, no chance of actualy resting with an open window.
This was difficult to find then I was disappointed in the condition of the room, very basic accommodation and not very clean generally. Poor communication by the duty manager and high price for te poor quality..
Also second night was very noisy by other guests.
No glasses or tumblers to drink from.
Not enough toilet rolls.
One highlight that the cleaner Lynda was very friendly and helpful including loaning two umbrellas to me and my fiancee.
the people working in this hotel are so friendly and helpful, they pointed out some good places and restaurants which were close to the hotel, the room was clean and tidy, we will definitely stay here again.
Worst hotel ive stayed in. The condition of the room were very bad. Bed sheets, linens were dirty.
Toilet was horrible. Ambience was very bad.
Could not stay a single night but paid advance whice was not repaid. Overall a horrible experience for 3 hours.
The place is horrendous and disgusting… I’m surprised they even have a business ..
The room was disgusting! Very dirty.
The worst hotel ever. There is no clean!!!! The manager is very rude with the staff. Our rooms smell so bad. The bed is really to bad for a hotel. The rooms are old. Very bad experience. We want our money back and we wanted to run away, but the manager didn't hear us.
We checked into this hotel as we had three rooms booked via hotels.com.
After we checked in we had to immediately check out due to the inadequate basic hygiene. Management even had the audacity to quibble about a refund.
We incurred extra costs of over £200 per person having to book new accommodation on arrival.
All three bedrooms contained dirty bedsheets and one even had bed bugs.
Not sure how this hotel is still operating.
I had 2 days stay in this hotel in an amazing colorful area at the center of Budapest.
My room was OK, basic but clean and spacious, a great value for money, € 49 for a double.
During the day the scene outside was amazing there were cute ethnic and retro shops next to restaurants with all exotic cuisines even a street-food market around the hotel, and a big plus, there is a super market on the opposite site of the same building open 24/7.
The staff was extremely helpful and very patience, I arrived at Budapest in the middle of the night and I was kinda lost in the streets around the hotel, but night receptionist was patiently giving me step by step instructions over the phone for quite a long time, he even gave me upon my arrival, as I ask where can I buy some water, a 1.5 lt water bottle he had just bought for himself and he stubbornly refuse to take money for it.
And day shift kindly reply all my questions, gave me all kind of helpful advice like where I can have a nice breakfast or shopping directions.
There was a mini bar in the room with various snacks and drinks for a price and coffee and tea sachets next to a thermo-pot so you can boil water and make your beverages for free!
There was noise all night long from the nearby bars and working girls, but that was normal as the area is like this, I mean if you need a quit place you can pick another area.
I will definitely visit again!
Make no mistake, it's a hostel, not a hotel. Very limited service in a great location. Air conditioning didn't work, I was promised repairman would come, and he did, about five hours later, at about 10PM. Turned out the AC worked fine, if you turned the know to "Heat." Don't know why I didn't try that.
I stayed here last week for just 1 night.Location is fantastic just a few feet from the ruin bars.My deluxe room had a mini bar, slippers and was clean.Price was reasonable and I would gladly stay here again
We stayed in one of the ‘deluxe room’ for 5 nights. On arrival the staff at the desk seemed very uninterested in checking us in, didn’t greet us just looked at their computer for 5 minutes before acknowledging us. We had to carry our cases up two flights of stairs, not suitable for those with any mobility issues as no lift. The room was filthy, mini fridge had mould in it and looked like it had never been cleaned, the toilet had skid marks in it, several lights weren’t working.
We brought this to the attention of the girl at the front desk and were told there’s nothing she could do and the maid would be in the next day, no apology or offer of another room.
We ended up going to the shop nearby to buy cleaning products and cleaning the room ourselves.
The bed is very hard and uncomfortable. The terrace is shared with another room and only one small table and two chairs between the two rooms.
The walls are paper thin, you could hear every word the people next door to us were saying.
The room was not cleaned once in the 5 days we were there, no change of bedding or towels.
The shower didn’t drain and we had to take very short showers to avoid flooding the bathroom. This was after we cleaned the filthy shower the day we arrived.
The towels given were grubby and mismatched, looked like random towels the previous guests had left behind.
The deluxe room is advertised as having tea and coffee making in the room but this is not the case, there is a room you can go down to where there’s a kettle but nothing else.
The staff throughout were unhelpful and unfriendly, they acted as if you were a nuisance if you tried to ask them about local activities.
The only redeeming thing about this hotel is its location.
My room was very basic even though I paid extra for a nicer room, dread to think what the cheaper rooms would have been like. The Wi-fi did not work, the TV did not work. There was something wrong with the plumbing as the drain in the bathroom kept pushing water up and flooding the bathroom. There was no shower gel or soap provided which was inconvenient. The room was never cleaned during my stay. There is a lot of noise from people who muck around and loiter in the corridors who I am sure actually live there as they look too young to be tourists. There was also no one at the check in desk when I got there so had to wait 10 minutes to get any service although the lady seemed friendly enough. On the plus side, the location is good.
Very close to city centre, and surrounded by restaurants and pubs, close to metro station Astoria
Daily cleaning
Very helpful stuff
The only thing I didn't like was that the room was a bit noisy.
