Pretty great, but could be better.
Pros:

Fantastic location, That is really the main reason most folks book this hotel.

The rooms are updated, but warn down both by the ocean and heavy use. There were empty drinks and messes around much of the outdoor space. The pool deck was coming up in spots and sharp edges were present, I'm surprised a hotel pool would be in such shape, surely folks catch their feet on these edges every day.

The restaurant is expensive, but the food was pretty good. The staff is try as hard as they can, however the meals we had at the hotel were bottom of our list for all of our meals in town for the week. Likely because the value and the quality of the experience didn't match.

That said, having breakfast while dolphins swim by in the morning was amazing. and the food was pretty good.

Nice size gym, really appreciate that! The sauna/cold plunge area was a big draw for us however they weren't very hot- so a bit of a gimmick.

Parking charge per day a bit silly considering half of their lot was beach users and not hotel guests.

Lastly the fire pits were great to use with the kids and make S'mores. The outdoor furniture takes a beating being next to the ocean, and it looks tired and often was messy with guests old drinks and food plates.

In the end a classic Marriott stay, they try to deliver luxury, but fall short in the details and the staff isn't up to the task despite charging luxury prices for dining and more.

You are paying for the location
Pros:

ocean front room was nice and you can't beat the location right on the beach. Table and chairs outside the door was nice as was the fire pits and outdoor areas. Staff is friendly especially front desk. Beds were pretty comfy and you can hears the waves all night.

Cons:

The hotel in general felt a little tired with the furniture outside and inside a bit worn. We had to have our door fixed upon arrival due to the wind howling under it. Super disappointed that they have a great sauna area / ice baths but the saunas stay at about 85 degrees. Supposedly the temp is controlled by corporate on the east coast which is ridiculous. The resort fees are to be expected but the parking is way over the top at $50 a day.

Pros:

We had a great stay at the Monterey Beach Hotel! We arrived late at night and were checked in by a great member of staff, very friendly and welcoming! The offering off wine gift card & s'mores for the beachside fires at night was such a lovely hotel gesture.

Great location, would recommend a stay here.

Excellent experience with the hotel services
Pros:

We stay in the hotel during my daughter's spring break, and it's an excellent experience. I'm a Marriott Titianium Elite member, so I have been to a lot of hotels, this one stands out for it's view & most importantly, their services. Sheehan was excellent and helped on all aspects of our stay.

Employee Jenive Hernandez
Pros:

While we stayed at the hotel we went to the hotel restaurant the Lantern Room and met Jenive Hernandez, she greeted us with a friendly and warm smile. She was very accommodating to let us pick our own table. Her personal demeanor made us feel like we were the only guests there. We felt very special on that evening and it made our dining more enjoyable. Thank you so much Jenive. Kim

Perfect location for sea views.
Pros:

The location was beautiful. We had an ocean view room and the sea was three steps away. Right outside was a fire pit and seating area.

Loved the wine pours and smores. In room fridge was great.

Ice baths, sauna, pool and spa also lovely.

Cons:

Resort fees and parking are huge, you need to factor them into the overall cost.

A little isolated in terms of access to the town itself.

Hidden Gem
Pros:

My wife had the pleasure of coming to Monterey Beach Hotel early this March (2026) and we booked 3 nights and ended up staying an additional 2 nights because we fell in love with the place. We utilized our AMEX platinum card which offered some superb benefits. We had the pleasure of staying on the ocean front side of the hotel which provided the beautiful sounds of the beach waves. Our room had window facing the ocean which also provided a front row seat to the beautiful sunsets in the comfort of our own room.

Our server, Kimmy, truly made every night remarkable. Not only was she attentive, but she also went out of her way to make sure we always had everything we needed. It’s rare to find someone who anticipates your needs before you even ask!

From the moment I walked in, Sheevani at the front desk made me feel like a VIP. Her warm greeting and seamless check-in process set the perfect tone for our entire stay. It’s rare to find that level of genuine hospitality!
I also want to personally thank Sheevani for her incredible kindness during a very difficult time. I mentioned that the purpose of our stay was a wellness trip to help us navigate the grieving process following a family loss., and she responded with such genuine empathy and compassion. Her thoughtfulness turned a heavy day into a much more comforted experience

Cons:

Our room smelled like animal pee. The staff gave us the resort fee back as a credit but for the cost of the hotel it was very disappointing. We would never stay there again.

Not worth a second trip
Pros:

Overall the property was nice but the room was small basically a studio minus any kitchen (there was a mini fridge). The walls aren’t very thick so you can hear your neighbors. While having the upgraded ocean view with sofa was nice you can’t actually see it from your room unless you walk onto the walk path outside the front of your room. With the walking path directly in front of your room also you have other hotel guests walking by and seeing into your room so we basically kept our windows covered the entire time at the hotel. The price for Parking which is added on top of the already high price didn’t make me feel any better. If you want a hotel with beach access this is it but if you want a room to see the ocean from you room this is not the one.
