Effortlessly cool hotel, with the best staff and well located
Pros:

Quiet residential area, staff were excellent, clean, comfortable beautiful rooftop pool - there was absolutely nothing negative at all

Cons:

So it’s only a small thing but we had to ask for water daily and the charges on room service weren’t clear when we ordered - but none of that would impact us staying again or highly recommending the hotel to others. In fact we are planning to return next year

Good Choice in West Hollywood
Pros:

We spent a delightful week at the Montrose while exploring art museums in LA. All of the staff are exceedingly friendly and helpful. Our room was a suite with a kitchenette and balcony. The room was clean and well furnished. Housekeeping is by request as is now common. There is a small rooftop pool and deck with complimentary wine served every evening. Coffee is available 24 hours a day in the small restaurant off the lobby (no decaf). The parking valets were friendly and efficient. The immediate neighborhood is mostly residential but is close to many restaurants on Sunset Boulevard and Santa Monica Boulevard. We would stay here again.

A check-in to remember
Pros:

This one is on behalf of my colleague Ruslan who I made the booking for -

My first check-in experience at Montrose at Beverly Hills was unforgettable — unfortunately, not in a good way.

I arrived at a fully prepaid room but without a credit card for the security deposit. My colleague, who booked and paid for both rooms, immediately contacted the hotel to solve the issue remotely. The front desk responded to every possible solution with what felt like their favorite word: “No.”

Cash deposit? No. Online payment? No. Card over the phone? No. Basic empathy? Also no.

The highlight was being told that my room key would stop working at 11 AM the next day unless my colleague arrived in person. I was essentially given two exciting options: sit inside the room and wait, or wander around Los Angeles with my luggage like a side character in a low-budget travel documentary.

The hotel itself is nice, the location is great, and the valet staff was fantastic — friendly, smiling, professional. Meanwhile, the reception team behaved like customer service was a personal inconvenience.

For a 4-star hotel in Beverly Hills, I expected hospitality. Instead, I got a masterclass in unnecessary rigidity and awkward attitude.

Montrose has potential, but the front desk team could really use a reminder that guests are not the enemy.

Never again
Pros:

Nice neighborhood, quiet street

Cons:

Montrose at Beverly Hills is a perfect example of how a stylish boutique hotel in a great Los Angeles location can completely ruin the guest experience with the front desk attitude.

Before arrival, I emailed the hotel explaining that my colleague would arrive one day earlier without a credit card, and that I would personally arrive the next day to provide the security deposit for both rooms. The hotel never responded — apparently their version of communication is silence.

When my colleague arrived, the real adventure began. Cash deposit? No. Online payment link? No. Credit card over the phone? No. Speaking politely to a paying guest? Also no.

The tone from the front desk felt less like hospitality and more like we owed them money personally. Despite the rooms being fully prepaid, they acted as if we were trying to sneak into the building through the kitchen entrance.

Eventually, they “graciously” allowed my colleague to stay for one night, warning him that his key would stop working at 11 AM the next day unless I appeared in person. Nothing says “welcome to Beverly Hills” quite like threatening to deactivate a guest’s room key.

The funniest part came when I finally arrived, provided the deposit for both rooms, and calmly mentioned that the check-in experience had been unpleasant. Instead of apologizing, the front desk agent said she was surprised her colleagues had even allowed him to check in.

No smiles. No warmth. No effort to help. The only genuinely friendly person at the hotel was the valet guy, who somehow understood the basic concept of hospitality better than the entire reception team combined.

Beautiful property. Great location. But the front desk seriously needs to relearn what the hospitality industry is supposed to be about.
