Location
The apartments were soulless and tucked away from the beach. Therefore we moved to a cabana
The cabanas like the rest of the facilities need some tlc, the resort is overpriced and needs updating. No kettle or fridge provided. The food is expensive.
Great location / beach
Really bad experience. we were a party that required three rooms (and had booking confirmation) but were told only two were available. No efforts were made to help us find another room, and we spent half the day roaming around the area trying to find a room (in burning heat on the first day of our holiday). The staff made no calls / offered no help. Until the evening - when we were offered a room in the owners' parents' house. Whilst this was appreciated, it's quite ridiculous it came to this AND absurd that we were then charged full price for this room. The owner then repeatedly shouted at us or accosted us about other room booking issues (that had nothing to do with us). Generally, service is terrible - I gave up on breakfast two days in a row because, after 60 minutes, no food arrived. We gave up on trying to get any other meals at the hotel. The whole place has an air of chaos. We had no hot water for the entire stay despite asking for help/ A good front-of-house manager - who has compassion for guests - needs to be hired immediately.
Mawella beach is paradise.
They lost our booking- so we did not have a room. And in peak season.
Location great.
No lights meant it was dangerous to go up and down the stairs at night. They didn't clean the rooms ever. They lost our booking at peak season, but they did try and help and housed us at their family home. But it was chaotic.
Amazing find on a lovely quiet beach. A real escape for a few days. Warm welcome from everyone too which was really appreciated!
Nothing. Don’t come if you want lots of noise and places to visit. Come to chill. Try the massage!
The turtles 🐢the food, the staff the location
The pool
We discovered the restaurant for the St Valentin diner then we decided to stay there for a long period of time.
The food is very very very excellent, tasty and fresh.
The hotel is in a quiet area, with a direct access to white sand beach. The sunrise is astonishing.
There is a clean pool at the big house. The garden, commun areas are clean, well decorated.
The wifi works well in the big house and commun areas. Good hot water shower.
The full team: Supun ( manager), Sithiya (waitress), Charith (chef), Lahsithu (cook), Mallika (house keeper) and the owner Veronica was professional, friendly and accessible. Our requests were fulfilled with respect.
They collect and protect turtles eggs and wait for them to hatch 🐢
I had one session of yoga with Veronica. I really appreciate it.
Possibility to rent motorbike.
I would like to have a Sri Lankan breakfast option.
Just got back from spending 2 nights at FIVE and I can't stop raving about it. The guesthouse is a stone's throw away from Mawella Beach, which I dare say is one of the best beaches in whole of Sri Lanka. The staff here are just the nicest – every moment with them is a testament to the famous Sri Lankan hospitality.
The rooms are clean and comfy, and perfect for a relaxing stay. And the food, gosh, breakfast here is top-notch, shout out to Malika for the amazing omelettes! And you'd be missing out if you didn't stick around for lunch and dinner – the presentation is on par with a five-star restaurant, and the flavors are just as impressive. (It all made sense when I later found out that the kitchen staff were previously trained in five-star establishments, which totally explains the high-quality dining experience)
Late afternoons at FIVE are my favorite. Post a leisurely lunch, I often find myself wandering down to the beach. It's the perfect place to unwind, the sea is swimmable all year round or you can just watch the surfers ride the waves. If you're up for it, you can even try paddleboarding. Just a short distance from the shore, there's a calm stretch of water where you can paddle along to enjoy being in the middle of nature. It's a super serene experience, like you're in your own little world.
I'm sure there's a lot more to discover in this charming place, only wish that I spent more time here :)
Wi-Fi can be a bit patchy at times. It's understandable given the secluded beach location, and honestly, it was a good excuse to disconnect and fully immerse myself in the natural beauty around. Just something to keep in mind if you need to stay connected for work or planning.
Right on Mawella beach a few nights felt like a week of relaxation. I had Ayurvedic treatments and the staff, food and my little house nestled amongst the nature all helped me to relax and enjoy my stay. The restaurant at the beach is lovely I sat and enjoyed listening to the waves at night with a nice glass of red. I wish I hadn’t booked other accommodation in Galle now otherwise I would just spend my time at Five.
Having to leave
Fashion and clean. Tasty food and beautiful restaurant. Hotel close to one of the perfect beaches. We were enjoying our walking on the beach with cocktails. Thanks for owner and staff for our amazing memories here.
Everything. It was a truly special experience staying at FIVE
Nothing
This place is a jewel of a find. Great location by a perfect beach. Veronika and her husband have created a stylish eclectic perfect place to relax. With a great friendly staff team organising anything you need. The food was really great, beautifully presented. The cocktails superb. You really feel this is a place with authenticity. We so enjoyed our stay.
I couldn't fault it. From the location, the room - we were in a garden bungalow, to the food and the ambience it was great.
