The staff, the food, accommodations, and location were excellent. It felt like a home away from home. So much better than any corporate run hotel. I had an incredible time with people who clearly love what they do.
That I had to leave
Great place! Karin and Oliver were fantastic hosts!!
Latica lodge was amazing to stay at! If you’re looking for that community vibe then this should be on the top of your list. Everyone from all over the world staying there, all having breakfast/supper together was spectular. The owners are everyday people willing to help you out with everything they made the stay so enjoyable. It’s definitely off the beaten path, I would recommend having a 4x4 vehicle to tackle the roads getting there and getting around. There’s a couple amazing beaches (best we thought on the whole west coast) super close and they are all so different. Would highly recommend staying here! Pura vida!
The owners were super fun.
Memory foam toppers would be great
All of it is just great. Felt like living in a little jungle paradise for 4 days.
The owners Karen and Olivier were amazing hosts, always engaging in good conversation, which made the stay feel even more cozy.
We did the trapeze class and it was fantastic as well.
Gracias y hasta pronto!
Our family of four fell in love with this place. We didn't want to leave this small piece of paradise. Comfy beds, cosy spaces, the pool is out of this world. Close to the beach and places to grab a bite. Can't wait to go back in January!!
The nearest beach is Playa Negra, 7 minutes away. After 2 months in different areas of Pacific coast of Costa Rica, this beach has become my favorite one.
There is a big guest refrigerator in the dining area to keep food or drinks. The lodge offers typical Costarican breakfast or meals on request but because it was low season they allowed me to use their restaurant kitchen to prepare my fruit plates or salad. That was very kind of them.
The grounds are beautiful to walk. The design and landscaping around pool area is special. The fire pit area is also great. The maintenance employee mentioned that they feel so happy when guests use the fire pit. He cleaned the fire pit and left dry wood ready for me and couple guests to use it in the evening. We grilled some potatoes and sausages while chatting and playing guitar. Really special evening.
The staff is very kind and friendly. They make the lodge feel like a home.
Another special feature is the lodge's cat "Microdosis" who would give unconditional love and company to each guest from arrival to departure day.
I found the only one dinner I had (dry pasta with bacon bits) was overpriced and expressed it to Lucas, the manager. He said they would take it in consideration to adapt.
It is common in Costa Rica to find simple dishes unreasonably overpriced specially in remote areas where there aren't supermarkets nearby. In Playa Negra there is very good gastronomy and options despite of being a small community. Some restaurant business owners do their own spearfishing and try to defend a vegetable garden or chickens from wildlife which is very hard. The best option is getting kitchen ingredients at the big supermarkets in Tamarindo 45 min away. There is one good fruit and vegetable market in Playa Negra (cash only) and couple small markets.
Latica Lodge is a beautiful place but seems short of staff. Few people have too much maintenance work to do. So, example the yoga shala requires daily cleaning to be used because it is exposed to nature. Birds, geckos, butterflies, insects...so you can't just lay a mat. It requires daily sweeping and mopping. No big deal, I did my morning yoga and exercises in another beautiful spot on the property. They did sweep and mop the shala after I expressed my wish to use it for my workouts.
We were fascinated by the whole hotel complex. The rooms, reception and kitchen are designed with style and creativity. The pool is a perfect place to chill at any time of the day and kind of magic. There is a fireplace for the guests in front of the hotel which makes evenings even more cozy. The personal is very friendly.
The neighborhood is a quiet one. There is a beach bar and several places to eat not far away from the hotel (20 - 30 min walk or 5 min to drive). The beach (playa negra) is not overrun and we like it due to its relaxed atmosphere.
We spent there three days and our room was not cleaned. Due to the sand of beaches this would be nice.
Bathrooms separated from the sleeping room only by a curtain (this can be seen on the pictures).
Latica was beautiful. Great staff, delicious food, gorgeous pool, comfortable rooms and top notch circus training.
We had so much fun here on a weekend getaway. The hosts Karin and Oliver were wonderful. It was lovely to see someone living out their dreams! We happened to be there on a weekend where they were hosting a circus retreat and ended with a show and bbq, then live cuban band. We also tried the trapeze which none of us had ever had the opportunity to do. Who would have thought we'd do it near a remote beach in Costa Rica? We had a great time!
