Location
A lot. Filthy mattress. Noise till 4 in the morning. Bathroom facilities were poor and bath and sink wouldn’t drain. Hot tap scalding. Room was damp which aggravated my asthma causing me not to sleep properly. Portable heater as radiator was poor. Moved to a new room and the heating wouldn’t turn down and windows wouldn’t open
The room and the location were great and the staff were very friendly and helpful.
They had no real ale available on the day and our evening meal 2 x sirlion was disappointing.
Good location and car parking. My room was only a single but cosy and comfy. The furniture was good quality and well thought out. Nice meal in the pub in the evening and a good breakfast in the morning. Reasonably priced too. I would stay here again.
I was on the second floor so 2 flights of stairs. I was okay with this but some people may want to be aware of this before staying. The bathroom was quite dated and the edges of the carpet in the bedroom could do with a good hoover. The bells from the Abbey were quite loud but they did stop at night!
Fabulous location right in centre of town with parking. Obviously a well loved hostelry by locals, great atmosphere & very friendly. Room was clean and comfortable.
We stayed in a room at the rear which doesn’t have the best views compared to the front but it’s much quieter. Great nights sleep!
Location perfect
Good parking
Great location opposite the Abbey, plenty of car parking and comfortable bed, really good value for money when you think that all day car parking is at least £12 these days. For the money it was ideal and will stay again - good to support a pub as well!
It’s an old pub/coach house , it didn’t worry me and actually added to the charm but don’t expect a modern bland chain hotel. Rooms are on first or second floor so not good for those who struggle with stairs
Spacious and clean
Loud Church bells outside my room every hour in the early hours of the morning
Great place staff was great place was nice
Can't say anything i didn't like
Great location at a very reasonable price
Central location so historic town can be seen on foot. Modern pub in a character building with views of Sherborne Abbey. Friendly staff. Decent size double room with a comfortable bed. Great value for money. 20% food saving for residents and one of the few pubs doing food on a Monday evening as many other places are closed Mondays and Tuesdays.
You do need to be a heavy sleeper for the Abbey bells not to be intrusive as they ring throughout the night. It’s a magnificent building and great to have as a neighbour otherwise but the earplugs they keep in reception would be a wise investment. Being on a main through road traffic noise also starts early. The cooked breakfast was great but there is no continental self-service on cereal, etc and these weren’t routinely offered. With only one staff member serving it feels awkward asking for different things.
Parking
Comfy bed
Nice & warm
Clean, quiet room, good facilities, location suited my purpose, since I had visits to make within quarter mile and was on foot. Service always prompt and helpful, though I hardly presented a challenge. Heating effective.
Handy TV in good order.
Dining room, reception area , stairs and room all a bit shabby.
Type of bedding made it hard to adjust covering to achieve and maintain comfort.
Ovehead light in the bathroom needs new bulb. Soap dispenser above the bath broken, perhaps because a past guest grabbed it to steady him/herself. (But the shaving light over the basin did well for the whole room.)
The on site manager was very helpful as was the young lady in the bar. The Family Room was spacious and warm and the main bed was very large and comfortable. The bed linen and towels were good quality and very clean. The tea and coffee making tray was most welcome. Super location and able to park on site free of charge.
The bathroom needs urgent attention as it would not pass any basic cleanliness or safety check. The shower cubicle is very small and unless you are extremely slim, it is difficult to close the door. The shower head diffuser was missing when we arrived (subsequently corrected by the manager) and the water pressure was very poor. Worse still the shower drain backed up quickly and very dirty brown water started filling the tray! The toilet bowl was very badly stained (how old is it?) and one of the unmatched pair of basin taps was dripping a steady stream of water all night. Added to that the paintwork on the walls and ceiling was peeling, the floor needed sweeping and there was black mould around the shower .
Great central location, family room was reasonably priced and breakfast good value. Good to have a bath for kids.
No lift (if this is not highlighted) might be an issue for some. The shower was not at all nice and while hot, pretty useless power-wise.
It needed replacing or at least a power clean. It was also tiny - some people would struggle to get in.
We were delighted that Katie taking our cases up to our room on arrival .
And so please that Bradley willing carried our cases down from our room on departure .
Breakfast was good value.
We did not like the next door Bedroom Door slamming in the early hours about 6 time on the morning of departure from about 5:00 am. Not amused
A slamming door was an issue in the Restaurant as well
Breakfast alone in a large restaurant was not very exciting .
