Bellissimo soggiorno, assolutamente consigliato. Ci tornerei molto volentieri!

# *When a Hotel Stops Being a Safe Place*
There are places where, almost without realizing it, we let our guard down. A hotel is one of them. We leave our suitcase beside us while waiting to check out, look away for a few moments to sign a document or ask for a taxi, convinced that we are in a protected environment. It is a natural act, built on trust.
It was precisely that trust that was irreparably shattered on June 14, 2026.
While I was in the lobby of the Hotel Bettoja Atlantico, waiting to complete the check-out process, my backpack was stolen within seconds. Inside were nearly USD 10,000 worth of personal belongings: cash, my work laptop, important documents, four passports belonging to my family, and other valuable items. The financial loss was significant, but even more painful was seeing the final moments of what had been a wonderful trip turn into an experience no traveler should ever have to endure.
A theft can happen anywhere—it would be naïve to believe otherwise—even though one would never expect it to happen in a place where people naturally feel safe: the lobby of a hotel. But that is not why I am writing this review.
The real reason is what happened afterwards.
My first request was simple: I asked to review the lobby's security camera footage. At first, I was told that the recordings could not be shown for "privacy reasons." Only after repeated insistence did the hotel manager verbally admit that the surveillance system had not been operational. A few days later, in the hotel's formal written response denying any civil liability, the same fact was officially confirmed: the lobby security cameras were not functioning at the time of the theft.
At that moment, I realized there would be no footage capable of helping identify the person who stole my belongings.
In the meantime, I had requested police assistance. Officers never came to the hotel, no immediate investigation was carried out, and even my subsequent attempt to formally supplement the police report encountered further obstacles.
From the hotel, I expected at least a human response: assistance in dealing with the authorities, guidance on how to handle the emergency, or simply some genuine concern for a guest who had just lost nearly USD 10,000 worth of property inside the hotel itself. None of that happened. There was no meaningful support, no initiative, and no real willingness to help.
To this day, I believe the real issue was not merely the theft itself, but the combination of circumstances that made it possible: a lobby freely accessible to outsiders, an inoperative surveillance system, the absence of any effective security presence, and the way the incident was handled, which, from my perspective, seemed focused solely on distancing the hotel from any responsibility.
I have taken the legal steps I consider appropriate, and I will leave it to the competent authorities to determine any legal responsibilities. This review, however, has a different purpose.
I want anyone considering a hotel in Rome to make an informed decision. Rooms may be elegant, the location may be excellent, and the service may appear impeccable when everything goes according to plan. But the true quality of a hotel is revealed only when something goes terribly wrong.
Unfortunately, I experienced that moment firsthand. And I believe other travelers have the right to know before making their reservation.
