Location and the outdoor seating area
They need to update the plugs to include chargers for phones. Also make sure the soaps are filled up before new guests arrive.
I had a wonderful at the Evo, along with a couple of relatives (including a young grandkid). We all stayed there for a family wedding in the area. The setting is beautiful, right across from the lake and a large beach and play area. It is easy walking distance from a number of interesting places to eat and shop. This is the kind of place that has a low-key vibe so the excellence sneaks up on you. Here are some high points: friendly and well-trained staff, comfortable communal spots around the property to sit and read or people watch if so inclined, extremely clean rooms, A/C-important with the heat wave, beds with excellent mattresses and a large number of pillows, shower and bath amenities, quiet, and an on-site casual dining spot with a bar. I would definitely return.
The good:
Location is spectacular. There’s a patio on the second floor that has lovely views of Tahoe. Staff are friendly.
They also accommodated an early check in (15$ fee plus tax, which, if you’re going to charge for that, is at least a reasonable amount)
The less good:
We paid $550+ for a night at this hotel. It is not even mildly worth that price. I get that there’s a premium for the location, but among the issues:
- dirty hallway carpeting
- rooms in need of tlc (scuffs everywhere, tiles grimy in bathroom)
- cobwebs in room corners
- the toilet had little poop stains in it
- towels were dirty
- walls are incredibly thin. You can hear everything, including music from the restaurant next door (which is part of evo). To their credit they did provide earplugs but that’s not the most enjoyable
Also worth noting that there is no elevator so if you’re on the second floor you’ll have to bring your bags up yourself
Tl;dr you’re arguably paying for a motel in a fantastic location. That may be worth it to you, but just know that’s what you’re getting into.
Absolutely perfect location right across the street from Commons Beach which has great concerts on Sundays. Also the upstairs patio area and fire pit is killer with a great view of the lake!
We just spent 5 nights at this hotel and there were plenty of pluses and minuses.
First, the pluses:
The staff - all staff interactions, especially at the front desk and the restaurant, were top notch. These are people that like their jobs and it shows.
The location - if you want to be practically on the lake, this is the spot. It's right across the street from Commons Beach and that makes it super convenient.
The extras - the restaurant is convenient and high quality and the bike/gear shop is convenient when you want to rent a bike or e-bike or paddleboard (30% discount for hotel guests). We took a couple of e-bikes on a ride and my bike had a tech failure when we were about 10 miles away. Julian wasted no time and met us where we were and swapped out the bike and offered to extend our time or do something else for us - which wasn't necessary.
Now, the demerits - just room issues:
There was no dresser (again, 5 nights) and only about 8 hangers to hang up stuff in an open closet. Come on.
No in-room safe. 'Nuff said.
No full-length mirror. Really?
The bathroom could use another shelf for a couple of people to use for their toiletries - the one that was there was coming off the wall precariously, and there was room for more at that.
When we come back to Tahoe we're be 50/50 on returning here or trying something else. It was good value for the money, especially considering the killer location, but I hope they could do better on making the rooms more comfortable and practical.
Sauna
Broken/inoperable cold plunge
The location is fantastic! Close to bike trails and the lake is across the street. The hotel is clean. The rooms a very basic but they do have a small refrigerator. The beds are comfortable. The restaurant has complimentary coffee that was really good!
Awesome plenty of parking and dog friendly
AC was a little weak
The location was fantastic and the staff was really nice. The bed and pillows were SO comfortable.
It’s basically a snow boarder’s hostel. The rooms have odd layouts and fridges that have blinding night lights. We didn’t see the little sticker on how to turn off the lights until we left. They also leave the outside doors open and unlocked so anyone can get in, which is terrible security. The doors aren’t soundproofed so you can hear every loud, obnoxious kid coming in at 2 am and talking their way down the hall. It’s a great value, just know what you’re getting.
Proximity to the lake, shops, and restaurants is great. Staff at the hotel and Surf Rider were super cool. Good vibe…
Erin was absolutely helpful and friendly from the moment we got there. There were all kinds of activities for the kiddos and fire pits with great views the lake. Commons beach is a short distance away. Our room was clean and in new condition. Overall, great place for a family stay.
Clean rooms, perfect location, and great staff. I would stay here again with the caveat of staying on a higher floor.
Very thin walls / ceilings. I’m not sure if we just had loud people on the floor above us or if the floors were just thing. But the walls / doors weren’t noise cancelling you could clearly hear people outside your door
