Beautiful historic building.
Comfortable room.
Excellent breakfast.
Stylish hotel with old world charm. Great location adjacent to the beach and town. Staff very helpful and polite. Whilst we didn’t eat dinner here, the breakfast was good with plenty of choice. The bar facilities were excellent with a good choice of drinks, and engaging bar staff. Bedroom and bathroom were excellent, with a comfortable, good sized bed and good washing facilities.
The tap in the bathroom. So big it obscured the basin!
Clean, old fashioned quirky, location, friendly.
Minor point on the breakfasts which were perfectly fine but fruit was a bit off. The apple I took and cut open was rotten.
Location, the building itself
Breakfast and Dinner nicely cooked and presented.
Pleasant and courteous staff.
Shower needed to be more powerful plus only lukewarm first thing in the morning but probably only to be expected in an old building.
A little more variety of prepared fruit at breakfast would be welcome plus some Marmite!
Very beautiful location and accomodation
Bathroom was a bit small and the shower was not very powerful
Very welcoming on arrival. Comfortable bedroom and bed. Good quality towels and bedding . Very helpful staff and convenient location.
Only minor negative was no blackout in curtains as we were woken early by bright sunlight.
Beautiful location, stunning building with lots of quirky alcoves.Beautifilly decorated
Very peaceful
Room stunning,we got an upgrade to a suite on arrival.
Nothing
Easy walking distance to the promenade.
Helpful staff
No beer on draught. Guinness on draught or Guinness in cans.
Excellent breakfast, salmon was delicious. Drawing room beautifully decorated and furnished with sea views from the windows. Lovely gardens with daffodils and primroses. Ample parking which is unusual for seafront hotels in Sidmouth.
Lovely large room. Food was excellent. Minute walk to the beach. All staff efficient, Jamie is a great asset.
Nothing
Friendly staff beautiful clean room apart from tea pot that had not been emptied from previous guests no marks on paint work light shades could do with updating bit all in all had a great experience and would definitely revisit
Unable to Bath later in the evening due to water not being hot biscuits range not great and dresser a little small to apply make up not enough plug sockets for phones or laptop use
A beautiful historic building close to the sea and a few minutes walk into town, the rooms were spacious, well furnished and equipped and the bed was very comfy. In many ways the hotel was perfect but it was let down by details which in isolation were trivial or even funny - but cumulatively left us disappointed
The booking.com description should have been better. The first we knew that the heated indoor pool was closed was after we had made a non refundable booking.
Our reception on arrival was business like rather than welcoming. In asking a brand new employee to show us to our room, it would have been wise to check that the man knew where it was. We laughed with him as we walked up and down corridors trundling our luggage but eventually he had to leave us while he returned to ask. Our departure reception was disappointing. If customers are standing at the reception desk trying to pay, it’s only polite to stand up to talk to them, not stay sitting at the computer and talking across to them. So little interest was shown when I thought we’d been undercharged that I was left saying, So it’s ok to go then?….
The bar menu was amusing but gave a poor impression of the hotel. We fancied a cocktail but every single cocktail on the menu (bar an apérol spritz or espresso martini) had a line through it in black felt tip. We haven’t got any of it in stock , was the explanation. Ok, but if you have a menu why not update it rather than have a farcical cocktail list.
The bedroom was immaculately decorated but there was evident dust on the skirting boards and a cobweb dangling from the bathroom ceiling. And the lovely comfy bed was let down by the man made fibre duvet which felt hot and sweaty to use.
On paper the breakfast selection was great but it needs bringing up to date. Some dried fruit nuts and seeds to put on the granola. A serve yourself bowl of Greek yogurt with some fruit compote rather than individual plastic yogurt pots. Some nice bread, maybe a croissant or pastry. The only bread was packet sliced and toasted. The individually wrapped butter packs felt very 1970s. And the poached eggs tasted so strongly of the vinegar (or whatever had been added to the water), they tasted of nothing else. Overall, not bad but not great either.
Proximity to town.
Car parking.
Lovely old building.
Bar staff were great.
Difficult to reach loo roll.
