Left Bank has been decorated in keeping with its heritage with attention to detail and some lovely touches throughout. Our host, Mihi, was helpful and obliging.
I had concerns with parking my motorcycle unattended, and the staff accommodated with no issue by putting my bike locked away from prying eyes and having it on camera. The historical building has been well taken care of and the beds are clean and comfortable. Fantastic showers as well. Thanks again!
Beautiful old building with carefully renovated interior
The exterior and grounds looked unloved. Front doors of the hotel looked boarded up. We thought that it had been abandoned.
Unfortunately the town is in decline, terrible feeling of lack of safety with dilapidated shops and boarded up homes.
Lovely Staff
All was good
Mihi - excellent warm service.
Beautiful decor representing era of the building.
It was 90% good. Bed was (appropriately) older spring base style so not as comfortable as modern one.
Hotel was lovely, sadly location not so good
Town very tired with limited facilities. Nowhere nice to eat
Very comfortable
Such a beautiful old building with lovely features and very nice energy. Our room was extremely clean and comfortable and our host is one of the nicest we have ever encountered. We loved the beautiful teacups in our room and that there was a fridge we could put drinks in.
We loved everything!
Mihi the manager was great, very accommodating, nothing by seemed too much trouble.
The kauri doors and bedstead were beautiful.
No breakfast.
The manager of Left Bank is incredibly responsive, supportive and lovely, I cant speak more highly of her and she truly makes your stay easy and enjoyable.
Locality was good and very clean and tidy.
Nothing
Location was good. Rooms are quite spacious and clean. Very private.
The bath didn’t drain the water properly. Other than that it was all okay. A mini fridge in the room would be better than a common one in the living area.
This place is truly a hidden gem in Kaikohe. In a town not widely known for its accommodation options, this property genuinely pushes boundaries, creating local employment, contributing to the town’s revival, and setting a new benchmark for hospitality in the area.
The building itself is a stunning 115-year-old masterpiece, designed in classic New Zealand neo-classical style. The hosts have gone to remarkable lengths to preserve its historic charm while seamlessly incorporating modern comforts. Every detail has been thoughtfully considered, from the beds and showers to the taps, teapots, and furniture, all reflecting an authentic early-1900s look and feel without sacrificing convenience or comfort. It is a rare and beautifully executed blend of history and modern living.
The manager was exceptionally friendly, welcoming, and supportive, which made the experience even more memorable. This stay far exceeded our expectations, and we truly enjoyed every moment. Highly recommended for anyone who appreciates heritage, character, and the chance to experience what a classic stay in the early 1900s might have felt like, elevated to modern standards.
Oh..I loved everything!
Great little hotel with heritage features maintained.
Hostess did everything to accommodate us with secure car parking and access.
Pointed us to lovely local historic hotel down the road for friendly bar drink and lovely pub meal.
Gave contact details for Kaikohi Golf club with friendly members and bar.
Great spot on way from north, west or east to pause for a night.
