"Overall, I had a great experience. The hotel was clean, comfortable, and the staff were friendly. I would definitely recommend this hotel to others."
Only entrance is good
Nothing luxury on room, expensive Valletta parking $70, bay more then , with booking full brake fast covered, and receptionist said on four members $60
Brakefast covered, not going with booking full brake.com next time, or reimburse brakefast and vallet parking.
The rooms and service were great, and in room dining was delicious.
This hotel is conveniently located downtown and short walking distance to the San Diego Civic Theater. From pulling into the valet only parking, we were greeted by David and his team. First class crew all the way in helping to direct us to check in, managing bags, and getting the car situated. The lobby is absolutely beautiful and the details of the historic building are apparent. Check in at the front desk was a breeze and promptly received our room keys. The room was spacious, had a view of the city, and well appointed. Bed was very comfortable. This is a great place to stay in San Diego and highly recommend.
Absolutely beautiful hotel. When you walk in you can just feel the history, it's very old and vintage but feels clean and fresh. The room was large and comfortable with a nice bathroom and tub. The only downside was that our room faced the train side of the street and the windows were not sound proof, it was really loud, but overall an awesome experience.
I have stayed in numerous hotels in downtown San Diego, and this is by far the worst choice. Although the service is good, the location and views are terrible. Homeless everywhere, no doormen, and a view of a dilapidated building with graffiti outside our suite. Hard no, and I highly recommend not staying here. Stay along the waterfront at the Hyatt or Intercontinental. Stop here for a drink if you are curious about the history. Finally, no amenities, not a pool, nor even a minibar.
Normally our stays and experience are amazing every two years around the time of the elections but unfortunately this year we learned that some of our younger members of our group had been mistreated at the restaurant by the manager named Dawn on duty. This is a cause of concern due to our habitual staying and returning to this hotel and it is a shame to have heard how they treated some of our younger guests. There were multiple instances where several members of our group said they felt harassed, unwarrantedly questioned without cause (in an interrogative rude and disrespectful tone of voice), privacy and personal spaces invaded by this manager and she kept returning to them habitually. We hope this was a one off but we do fear she has done this before to other guests and so we did want to file a formal and official complaint to corporate or at least relay this to her supervisor or next in command. Thank you, other than that our stay was great however we do pray there be some kind of job suspension or punitive action taken as repercussion for this individual employee's uncalled for out of pocket and etiquette actions. See you all in November. We love the U.S Grant !
This review is for Amex plat users only. Don’t expect your perks to apply here. I rarely write reviews but since this hotel didn’t let us have early check in I have time while waiting in their lobby. 2 stars cuz our average experience is to not have to wait even just an hour for our rooms. Also our upgrade was to an Ada room. Yay. The lobby and registration staff were nice at least, but the wait for brunch was over 1.5 hr long and the elevators are slow AF. There are definitely better options in the area. My buddy used his chase edit for the intercontinental and couldn’t stop yapping about how good it was.
Front desk staff was stuck up, the bathroom/ plumbing was an issue both with shower and toilet, overpriced for what you get. $70 a day to park. Id say it was in a nice location if it weren’t for the shady, homeless, drunk people lingering around. Disappointed to say the very least.
Only giving this hotel 2 stars , as day we arrived we were told our accommodation we had previously booked over 6 months in advance was not available. They had an ‘event’ on the day we were due to check-in and were ‘fully committed’ so had no room for us. I find this unacceptable , and proves to me that this hotel will favour a group booking over an individual’s. Altho we were moved to another hotel, it was not what we paid for and the messing about moving hotels disrupted our planned schedule.
I wish I had read reviews like this before booking. This hotel is a complete rip off and I am still furious about how they treated me.
They charged my credit card for an extra full night that I never stayed. I checked out on the agreed date but they processed an unauthorized extra charge anyway. When I immediately spoke to the manager and asked for a refund he was rude, unhelpful, and flat out refused to fix it. I am now disputing the charge with my credit card company because of their mistake.
On top of the billing error the room service was awful. Orders were slow, wrong, and the food arrived cold. Multiple other issues made the entire stay disappointing from start to finish. The front desk and management showed zero interest in making things right.
Save yourself the headache and money. Stay somewhere else. This place will overcharge you and then refuse to correct their own errors. I will never return and I am warning everyone I can.
It's a very nice, old hotel but with comfortable modern rooms and elegant public areas. Good TV, bed and shower. Useful to have a restaurant on the premises but a less formal coffee shop in the hotel would be a bonus although I don't know how feasible it would be. A minibar in the room would bring it in line with other hotels of this calibre I've stayed in. It's on Broadway so about 15 - 20 minutes to walk to the waterfront. The Gaslamp and Little Italy are a short walk. You need to decide whether you want to be very near the waterfront or stay a short walk away.
Very attentive staff!
Beautiful and spotless. It was convenient to civic theater for a show we saw
Great location- historical and beautiful’
I booked with Amex Plat FHR, also have Marriott plat status. I paid $470 USD for a king room and tried to use a SNR for an upgrade. I got a message saying the SNR was given back bc they couldnt upgrade me to the room I chose. I was told I was given a double upgrade to the room in the pix I posted here, room 913. Small room, No view, plumbing/toilet noise was loud and crumbs and paper would come up in the toilet, the room was generally noisy not sure if it was more than the pluming maybe its just bc its old. Slipped in the bathroom (did not fall) when taking a shower the water was burning hot then not even warm back to burning hot no matter where we set the temp to. Parking is $70 a night, front desk/reception are sassy/rude, no pool but knew that ahead of time. I had booked a room that the pix didnt match the room I was given and since I supposedly got a double upgrade I’d think the room would be better but it wasnt, they said that I booked on a 3rd party sight (amex FHR) and theirs nothing they can do to compensate as those materials (pix) are not created or controlled by their hotel. The bed was comfy and the concierge was delightful. I was so looking fwd to this hotel. Flew from MT to go to a wedding. We flew in day early to celebrate our 13th anniversary . I chose this hotel bc my husband is a history buff and wanted to surprise him. I was surprised by the amount of sketch people around wasnt the safest feeling. Over sad.
