Pros:

The location of the hotel in the centre of Hitchin was ideal. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Cons:

The shower in my room was Luke warm. Whilst I was informed to run the hot tap when I checked in as I was in the old building it did not improve the heat from the shower.

Rooms were very tired, broken door handles, mouldy ceiling in bathroom, curtains falling off the rail, mattress was at end of like and full of noisy springs.

Book the stay if you want to be properly looked after, appreciate character, and the ease of a brilliant location!
Pros:

We stayed for our wedding weekend, alongside our family and wedding party, who we split between the main hotel and inn depending on requirements. My bridal suite was gorgeous, hotel staff were incredibly attentive, breakfast was fantastic, evening in the bar were fab, and honestly it was such great value too. Once you step off the hotel’s gorgeous grounds and straight into town. I could recommend either location enough, but the hotel is something really special. Special thanks to David for organising our stay and looking after us from at every stage. He’s an absolute gem! All hotel staff were fantastic, but we worked with David from the start to end of our stay and definitely plan to be back even though we live locally. We had such a great time we’ve decided the Priory Hotel is definitely the perfect place to sneak off for a night to ourselves without the kids, although they were brilliant with all of our children too, sometimes you just need a break to be two adults in a lovely spot without them.

Cons:

We leave with anything negatives. Honestly I wish we’d booked to stay longer!

No hot water in our room and other thing in room not up to standard. Hotel is looking very tired and good do with a makeover. But staff were polite and helpful especially David who did all he could to help

Friendly staff, quirky hotel, beautiful setting, but needs updating to meet basic expectations.
Pros:

The staff were friendly and attentive. the location was great, a walking distance from the town, and the setting in its surrounding grounds was beautiful. The building was quirky, and the reception and lounge area were slick and well presented. There appeared to be ample function rooms of great size and grandeur.

Cons:

Unfortunately i cannot recommend this for business trips. As a venue or a short break I'm sure it would be lovely, however during my short stay there was no hot water for a shower (i appreciate the hotel had a problem with their boiler), the shower, although not used, was ran for 5 minutes to see if hot water came through and in that time the shower tray filled up, plus I'm sure a person of a larger frame would struggle to be accommodated, there was only 1 clothes hanger, the free WIFI was non-existent (dropped out quicker than it connected), and the route shown to my room was completely unsigned, which meant i was opening doors i shouldn't have, going down steps that were not for guests etc (i eventually found the route i should have been shown), and although i paid for breakfast i didn't have any as it didn't start until 7:30am and i would have been late for meetings. I was moved to an alternative room in a separate building at my request however this was of no improvement as the amount of narrow corridors and fire-doors felt like i was back at school, the room was bigger but the bed was framed by holes in the wall and a non-existent headboard where the outline on the wall was still evident. The main light in the room could not be kept on due to the crackling sound coming from the fitting, and the avocado bathroom suite was suitably matched by the bakelite switches.

Old hotel past it's best in central Hitchin
Pros:

Beautiful old building, some lovely features and history. But sadly, very tired with old furniture and decor, and not very clean. Check in was ok and friendly (room 12) a long winding trek to the room up various corridors and stairs (no lift as far as I could see). View looking out the front drive. Room was ok, tea/coffee/hairdryer, didn't use wifi. Breakfast was ok, hot food and various cereals/toast/yoghurts etc. Although coffee machine a bit poor. Location is great for town centre though, less than a 5 min walk

Cons:

Carpets felt old and threadbare, in the corridor sticky tape over carpet tears. Bathroom very basic, didn't even use the shower, it sprayed in every direction, obviously blocked full of whatever (needs new showerheads at least). Water was tepid, never got hot. We paid around £85 inc breakfast, but feel this place needs £20 knocking off...by all accounts there's a Premier Inn down the road which would have been nicer. When we arrived back late at night, I think one of the staff (maybe the chef?) had been smoking dope outside the front, not very professional I think, plus it smells disgusting
