Pros:

Stayed last week for our zoo family trip.

The good: The location was great and the room was very spacious. We loved that we were able to set up a crib and roll away bed and still have plenty of room.

The bad: booked a garden view room through Costco travel and was given a room with a view of the neighboring park. The music at night was very loud and we could feel the vibration from the music. The room smelled upon arrival, the blow dryer was broken, we learned the fridge wasn’t working when we went to grab our baby’s milk and it was warm and unable to use. The outdoor patio furniture had bird poop all over it.

Not sure if we will stay again but if we do I would prefer another building. We were put in the Coronado building which was the furthest one back.

My Favorite Place to Stay
Pros:

Located on lovely Mission Bay, the hotel is near Sea World, the zoo, Old Town, beaches and all water sports on Mission Bay. The hotel has boat rentals and many water sports rentals to enjoy on the bay. There’s a terrific playground. Walkers, rubbers, casual bicyclers. Will enjoy miles of their favorite activities around the bay. Picnic areas galore. The hotel has a great pool, spa, restaurants, and lovely, relaxing grounds. Both couples and families will enjoy.

Needs Improvement
Pros:

We had some issues during this stay. Ice machines were not working. Tree trimming was happening during our stay and maintenance to the restaurant. Neither of these items warranted a notification and we had to discover this on our own. We brought issues to the staff but they were never handled. Not the best stay this time around.

An Elevated Family Getaway – Thoughtful Service, Family-Friendly Amenities, and a Truly Memorable Stay
Pros:

Our family just returned from a wonderful weekend at Mission Bay Resort, and I felt compelled to share how impressed we were. We stayed here last year and had a lovely experience, but this year's visit was elevated in every way. The property feels exceptionally well-maintained, the service was outstanding, and every detail seemed thoughtfully designed with families in mind.

We had requested two adjoining rooms for our large family, and were thrilled that one room was ready for us during early check-in. It was such a welcome surprise and made settling in with kids so much easier. The children were delighted to find a Splash the Seal stuffed animal waiting on each bed—a small touch that made a big impression.

The rooms themselves were spotless, beautifully designed, and incredibly functional for family travel. One feature I especially appreciated was the set of large storage baskets under the TV console. I was able to unpack all of the snacks and food items we brought along and keep everything neatly organized and out of sight. Each room also included both a refrigerator and microwave, which was invaluable for our daughter who has celiac disease and requires her own food preparation. The in-room coffee maker and electric kettle were also a pleasant surprise—far nicer than the typical hotel offerings.

Another thoughtful touch was the complimentary s'mores kits provided in each room. The packaging was adorable, and having everything ready to enjoy with our private fire pit made for a fun and memorable family activity. We also loved the text-message service for housekeeping requests. Whether we needed extra towels or firewood delivered, it was incredibly convenient—especially during nap times when leaving the room wasn't always practical.

Every staff member we encountered was genuinely kind, welcoming, and accommodating. From the front desk and concierge team to the coffee shop, poolside service, and lunch at Covewood, the hospitality was exceptional. The fish tacos at Covewood were delicious, and every interaction felt friendly and attentive.

One of the highlights of our stay was enjoying the sunset from the resort beach. The kids loved the ringing of the large bell at Covewood, and being able to watch the new drone show directly from the property made for a truly memorable evening. During the day, they bounced happily between the pool, kiddie pool, and hot tub. The walk-in pool ramp was perfect for our toddler, and the music around the pool area created a fun atmosphere without ever feeling overwhelming.

This year we also tried paddleboarding, which couldn't have been more convenient with rentals located right on the beach in front of the resort. For families visiting, I highly recommend bringing scooters. Our kids loved exploring the resort grounds and scootering to the newly renovated parks just minutes away.

Throughout the property, the public spaces and restrooms were consistently clean, and the grounds were beautifully maintained. Many beachside hotels can feel weathered from years of exposure to the elements, but Mission Bay Resort feels fresh, polished, and luxurious. The beds and pillows were exceptionally comfortable, and the entire resort reflects a level of care and upkeep that is increasingly hard to find.

We left feeling relaxed, well cared for, and already looking forward to our next visit. Mission Bay Resort exceeded our expectations this year, and we will absolutely be back. Next time, I'm hoping to carve out some time to experience the spa!

Beautiful location and friendly staff
Pros:

All of the staff were friendly and helpful. The food was definitely priced high but plenty of options within ten minutes of the resort to drive to for other options. The housekeeping did an amazing job at keeping the rooms tidy. They had plenty of fun recreational activities to enjoy and the easy walk out to the bay was amazing especially with little kids.
We did have one problem. We ordered food from here poolside and later in the day saw a HUGE rat run right through a hole on the bottom right of the door. Really made us nauseous. We let the front desk know. We weren’t offered a refund for the food or anything. The next day the hole in the door was still there and hadn’t been covered with anything. It was like the rat knew right where to go. And it looked well fed which makes us feel like it eats around in there. We just feel like they could have made an effort to either refund us or at least have went to cover the hole in the door and taken some extra measures to prevent the rat from scrimmaging around where many people eat.

An Unforgettable Staycation for the Whole Neighborhood! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Pros:

Recently, eight families from our neighborhood—a crew of 40 people in total, with kids ranging from 5 months to 10 years old—had the absolute pleasure of ringing in the summer with a staycation at the Mission Bay Resort. Even though I have lived in San Diego my entire life, I had never actually stayed at this resort before. Now that I have, I am officially hooked and plan to be back often!

From start to finish, the resort went above and beyond to accommodate our massive group. Summer, the property GM, is an absolute rockstar. She personally arranged for our entire group to be situated together around a large, grassy courtyard. This setup was an absolute game-changer. It made it incredibly easy for the adults to socialize while keeping our gaggle of kids safely entertained. The courtyard became our hub for daytime whiffle ball games, nighttime bonfires, and impromptu dance parties.

The location of our rooms couldn't have been more perfect. We were just steps away from the amazing pool, the bayfront (where we took full advantage of water sports like paddleboarding), and we had a prime, front-row view of the spectacular drone show at night.

What truly sets this resort apart, though, is the staff. Every single employee we encountered was remarkably nice and helpful. Have to give a special shoutout to Mimi at the coffee shop, whose infectious smile was the perfect start to our mornings, and David at the pool, who kept our entire army hydrated and fed all day with top-tier service. And of course Summer, the resort's stellar leader, for the guest experience she has cultivated.

So many incredible memories were made this weekend. Mission Bay Resort is a true beachfront San Diego gem, and our neighborhood crew is already counting down the days until our next stay!

Wonderful experience, can't wait to come back!
Pros:

Came to Mission Bay Resort for a staycation and was so impressed! We have young kids, and the resort is truly perfect for families. Our room backed onto a grassy field, which let us relax while our kids ran around and had a blast. The fire pits helped us create magical memories gathering around and roasting s'mores. Rooms were perfectly sized, upgraded, and clean.

The pool was seriously the PERFECT pool for kids, with a wading entrance, plenty of shallow water for younger swimmers, and fantastic service by the pool.

We really loved the bay being right there, and a great view of the Sea World drone show just steps from our rooms. We ate breakfast at Covewood, which had such a upscale but still comfortable atmosphere.

Love the location, value, and service. Truly a five-star place.

Great family weekend
Pros:

First time at the resort and definitely enjoyed a relaxing weekend. We were pretty lazy and didn’t explore as much as we could have to take advantage of all of the amenities but that only gives us motivation to come back.

The lobster tacos are awesome! Highly recommend those. The kid pool, that’s only a foot in depth) is wonderful for toddlers and littles and has plenty of chairs for the parents to relax literally feet away from their kiddos.

The rooms and hallways smell amazing! The Mercado (the snack shop) literally has everything you could need.

Jessica, our waitress at Covewood, was wonderful. The manager, Barrett was also a delight! Such a pleasure to have met them both. We LOVED the drone show after dinner. It was such a treat for our ocean loving toddler.

We will definitely be back for another stay. We love SD and this resort is definitely on our list of places to revisit.
