Wonderful experience! Colle tour of SCAD with my daughter. Perfect location for both SCAD locations and historical interest.
Hotel is elegant, staff are wonderful. Room was great, beds comfortable. Room near elevator but wasn’t bothered by that.
A/C was perfect, we visited during a heat wave and I had to adjust room temp up a few times, it was so efficient. Would have liked a trashcan in bathroom and larger one in room but those were the only complaints.
The staff, the staff, the staff. Mimi at front desk, delightful and so helpful. Bar staff were phenomenal. Regulars at bar from the area (1 or 2) a night, and the vibe of the bar was friendly and welcoming. Door staff superb. Greater every time coming in or out.
I will absolutely return.
The hotel and staff were very nice. The room was comfortable and the bathroom was acceptable, just a little outdated. The main issue I had was with the outlets. There are no outlets by the bed to charge electronics. Everyone uses their phones/tablets/laptops/etc. differently, but in 2026 there should be options for charging electronics by the bed.
Very friendly and helpful staff! Beautiful older building. Within waliking distance of a ton different local sights.
Beautiful hotel. Staff was great and extremely helpful. The breakfast was absolutely devine. We could not have asked for a better place to stay.
The water was extremely hot or cold there never a middle ground. My kids had to take cold showers.
Overall, my stay was wonderful. There are definitely things that need to change and/or add. Firstly, the mattress we slept on in room 418 needs to go. It is so old and very very uncomfortable. Secondly, the bathroom needs a cabinet or something to place wash-up kits and more towel hooks. One is completely inadequate. Thirdly, another functional nightstand. The last couple nights of our stay we requested maid service via the door card but it still was not done. The coffee station downstairs does not have a trash can available so we just left our empty containers on the table. With all that said, the greeting staff was outstanding.
The beds were comfortable. The rooms were medicore at best. There were crumbs in the bathroom and lobby of our room. NOTHING is complimentary. NO in room coffee, microwave, or refridgerator! NO complimentary hot breakfast! Breakfast was an additional cost! PARRKING WAS A NIGHTMARE! You had to either valet park the car for 58$$$ or go to a parking garage or find on the street parking which you can only use for 3 hours at a time. It was a very difficult time for our family and this hotel experience was abhorent!
It was just a terrible experience. We came for a conference and the only positive thing about the hotel was the staff. That’s it. Rooms were dirty although big. So very out dated and old. Sink was clogged the whole time. So noisy. Grabbing a bottled water and Gatorade close to $7 each and it closed at 2:00. Old chairs near pool and area was not kept clean at all. We should have stayed at the Penny Lane which was gorgeous. Very disappointed.
Loved the DeSoto. Our room was right outside of the pool so we loved using the pool and outside bar. Everyone was very friendly throughout all areas.
Great hotel! Friendly helpful staff.
The best everrrr!! Will definitely be back sooner than I think
I’ve tightened the review, grouped related points, and made it read more smoothly while preserving your main observations.
I booked four rooms for my family of eight. The hotel’s biggest strength is its location in Savannah’s Historic District. It’s within easy walking distance of restaurants, shops, and many attractions, making it easy to explore the city.
Unfortunately, the hotel itself fell short of expectations. The first thing we noticed was a musty smell in the lobby that reminded me of an old museum. It was unpleasant enough to make me feel sick each time we walked through.
The property also needs significant maintenance. The fourth-floor ice machine had a strong mold odor as soon as the door was opened, which is a serious health concern. The ice machine on another floor wasn’t working. Our room had buckled wood flooring from what appeared to be water damage, and there was visible mold in the bathroom.
Housekeeping was inconsistent. During our four-day, three-night stay, my bed was never made because I was told there were personal items on it. While the trash was emptied and fresh towels were provided, the bathroom sink, tub, and countertops were never cleaned.
The amenities were also disappointing. None of our rooms had a refrigerator, although I later learned one was available upon request. A mini fridge should be standard, especially in Savannah’s climate. There was also only one shared microwave in the lobby, and the snack prices were steep—about $3 for a small bag of chips.
The hotel advertises a spa in the lobby, but there isn’t an actual on-site spa—only a “spa experience,” which felt misleading.
One bright spot was the rooftop pool. My younger kids loved it, and it was the highlight of our stay. However, the pool is quite small and becomes very crowded during the hottest part of the day. There’s also a lot of unused rooftop space that could be better utilized for a larger pool or additional outdoor seating and activities.
The location is excellent, but the cleanliness, maintenance, and overall amenities need significant improvement before I would consider staying here again.
I have stayed at the Perry Lane 3 times, Marriott boutique Hotel on the river, the Thompson on the river and the Bardo by Forsyth Park. It is not as luxurious as the afore mentioned but it has a great vibe… it is centrally located….diversity… beautiful lobby and three different restaurants… also it has a great staff!! Enjoy!!
Accommodations were poorly maintained. A/C in room was terrible! They moved us to another room the first night, but that room really wasn’t much better. However, the staff (front desk, 1540 Room, maintenance and valet) were exceptional!!! Very doubtful we will stay here again.
I stayed here as a child and was excited to come back. The staff at the front door in particular was very helpful and friendly, but that was true also at the front desk. The location is great, and rooms were updated. The view was nice. But I give it three stars for two reasons: 1) They don’t provide any complimentary water for guests. Savannah is hot! And when you come back from a ghost tour at 10pm, there is nowhere to buy it, no cups, no free water in the lobby like every other comparable hotel does, and no complimentary bottled water in the rooms. Providing that minor amenity would make the guest experience mich better. 2) Our room was right by the elevator and was extremely loud. We did all the right things - booked way in advance, checked in online early when we got those annoying texts, and still got that room, so I recommend asking to be away from the elevator. Otherwise a beautiful historic hotel with friendly staff in a great location.
LOVE this hotel and this location! Took my mom for a birthday trip and we had the most amazing time. Our first room did have some AC issues but the staff was quick to try to fix it and was helpful in moving us to a new room. We stayed on the River view side on upper floors and we LOVED the views. This was also a great location for being able to site see all over the historic district on both sides of the hotel. Quick walks to retail and dining and so close to several hop on hop off Trolley stops as well as a short walk to the free CAT bus. The hotel itself is so charming, love the lobby decor and atmosphere. No mid-day food options for grabbing a light lunch or snack which was the only miss but there are options within a very close walk.
We loved Savannah and the De Soto. The valets were so polite and friendly. Matt was the BEST! Marcus- pool bartender was amazingly friendly. Loved our stay. Will return.
Beautiful property, fabulous rooms, and exceptional guest services…specifically Monica. She was in the lobby making sure all of us guests were more than happy with the stay while also assisting the front desk and breakfast teams. Tons of choices in the area but this hotel is the cream of the crop!
Incredible stay, would definitely return, wish we had more time to experience all the amenities. Pool bartender was a stand out for sure. Beds buttery soft. Pillows I was tempted to steal. Absolute perfection at check-in and check-out. The valet was so kind and even brought us water. It was a super hot day so this was appreciated.
Location is great but the staff at the front desk is alarmingly unprofessional. Great pool, great rooms, good property... but the staff there is rude and unwelcoming. Really disappointed in the overall experience
