Cost Saving Manhattan Alternative
Pros:

Manhattan rooms were $800 minimum, while Newark Hilton Penn Station was $200+ range for my dates. Two minute walk from hotel into Newark station and 20-30 minute train ride into York Penn Station for only $6 was my cost saving alternative. Fast food options in abundance at the station, plus small restaurant/bar in the hotel. Trains are frequent. Newark station grimy, with four broken escalators seen during my visi, but crowded and well policed. Daytime hours there's a direct walkway connecting station to the hotel, though poorly marked and hard to find the first time.

Needs maintenance
Pros:

I believe we were in room 732. Stains all around the carpet near the desk area, coffee or hot chocolate? Bathroom had a broken ceramic soap shelf that if someone slipped in the shower and hit it, it would have sliced them. That room never should have been rented out. I can’t believe housekeeping didn’t report it, and if they did,Mohamed on maintenance for not taking care of it. Shuttle staff to and from the airport were wonderful, very friendly.

Hotel is lacking, much.
Pros:

The highlight of this trip was the location, the proximity to the train station, and the hotel allowing me to check in early. I stayed on the 9th floor, and had a good view of the street and train station. However, the room and hotel itself were not great. Almost daily, the hotel ran out of towels and washcloths for guests. At one point, my husband heard the housekeeping staff say that they should reuse the towels, and that the guests would never know. The bedding (sheets) were stained and there was a hair (not beloinging to me) on the bed. The bathroom sink, clogged. The first day, I purposefully left the do not disturb tag on the door handle as I did not need turn-down service that first day. The second day after not receiving any fresh towels or washcloths, I requested turn-down service, and the housekeeping staff never came. They never came for the entire stay, even though I did not have the do not disturb sign on the door. The elevators were not clean, and one of the elevators went down during our stay. Staff provided two bottles of water at check-in, but when I asked for another bottle the next day, the staff hesitated, even though they did not sell water in the hotel "store" that could be charged to the room. The room was outdated and had a stain on the carpet. The gym is outdated and dirty. One of the two treadmills was broken, and the room had no ventilation. Carpets on the guest floors are stained, and the upholstered furniture in the lobby is stained. The vent in the bathroom was covered in what appeared to be black mold. Overall, I would not recommend this hotel for more than an overnight stay, if that. I would not stay here again, unless improvements are made.

Pros:

Airport shuttle was 1hr late. All their emails and phone line information was apparently incorrect about the shuttle service as well, which lead to the issue. We had to complain to get any apology from them.
Our room wasn’t ready at the 4pm check-in either. 4pm is incredibly late and they had nothing available when we arrived. Crazy.
This whole place is understaffed and mismanaged.

Pros:

The room was nice , however the hallways were very dirty. The location is great for traveling but the area also brings a dangerous element so traveling can be sketchy.

Decent hotel for a good rate
Pros:

I had two nights at this property in connection with a vacation in New York City. During the time of my stay, it was impossible to get a decent room in Manhattan or Brooklyn for less than $400 or so a night, so I bit the bullet and booked a hotel in Newark.

For this hotel, I paid about 190 USD per night for a king corner room, which is a good deal. The hotel is adjacent to Newark Penn Station and directly connected with a walkway (which is only open during the day, though). From the station, it's only a 20-minute train ride to Manhattan, so it's not terrible.

The hotel is also very close to Newark airport, and the hotel has a free shuttle (the AirTrain is also an option).

Newark Penn Station and the area around the hotel is quite sketchy with homeless people, etc. There is a solid police presence at the station, though, so it felt fairly safe. There was also security to get into the hotel.

My room was fairly spacious and featured the basic amenities, including a fridge and a large TV. There are no streaming services or Chromecast on the TV, though.

Frequently, in my room, I could hear a loud rumbling noise - not sure if it was the trains, even on the 10th floor. You could also occasionally hear the street noise.

The bathroom was decent, with dual sinks, but one of those showers where you have to stand in a bathtub, and said bathtub looked extremely worn and filled with marks and such.

Indeed, the room and the decor were a bit tired and could use a refurb. But it was clean.

The Gateway Center had a few shops and food options, but otherwise, I would recommend going into the city instead of lingering around in Newark.

Overall, it is a decent hotel for a short stay and a good way to avoid paying double or triple the rate in Manhattan.

Pros:

The hotel is old and rundown. The area has a lot of homeless people. Won’t stay there again. It is very convenient because it’s so close to the subway but dirty.

shuttle service
Pros:

from Airport, in advance I sent emails but no reply. I was so frustrated. Then at the Newark airport, I could find the place where shuttle stop.

On the way back, to airport, every 30 minutes there was a service and thankfully the staff drive me to the airport.
