The location of this property is truly its greatest asset, situated perfectly near Market Square with effortless access to the best downtown shops and sites. I must also extend my sincere compliments to David B.at the front desk; his professionalism was exemplary. He went well above and beyond to ensure my check-in was seamless—a bright spot in an otherwise underwhelming stay.
Unfortunately, the hotel itself is a relic of the late '90s. While "dilapidated" might be too harsh a word, the aesthetic is undeniably beyond its prime. For the premium rates charged, one expects a standard of luxury that the current wood-themed decor and cramped quarters simply do not meet. The bathroom ergonomics are particularly puzzling; the footprint is so restrictive that one must maneuver around the fixtures just to close the door.
Furthermore, the structural integrity regarding privacy is quite disappointing for a high-rise of this stature. The reliance on in-window AC units and poorly insulated doors—which allow a clear view into the hallway—is a significant oversight. Most taxing, however, is the lack of acoustic privacy. The walls are paper-thin, leaving no conversation, television program, or "intimate moment" to the imagination.
It is a curious paradox to stay in a place where you can hear every neighbor’s whisper, yet find security at your door with a "rude knock" should your own television volume dare to compete with the lack of soundproofing. This property has immense potential, but until it undergoes a comprehensive modern renovation, the lack of privacy and outdated amenities make it difficult to justify a return.
Pros:
Great location for downtown Knoxville.
Cons:
Only two elevators in service for such a big hotel.
Advertised rooftop pool but it was not available during our stay.
Stayed on the 15th floor and still heard a lot of noise from downtown.
Front desk staff was very rude, David in particular.
Parking is expensive. There is a parking garage across the street that is much more affordable.
Bathroom is TINY with barely any room to move around.
Marriott and the Tennessean down the street look like much better options.
I really loved the location of the hotel. We were touring UT, so it was a perfect distance between the campus and restaurants on Market Square and Gay St.
The room was nice and clean, and the staff was friendly.
Although I didn't go to the hotel restaurant, I liked that it was an option.
Nothing!
check out was easy. Using the car valet was easy.
The woman who checked me in was very unfriendly. Had a frown on her face before I even said one word. She was in a foul mood and it wasn't because of anything I said or did.
Came for the KA convention this weekend and was pleasantly surprised by the standard the Hilton has set. Went very smoothly from the start checking in especially the valet. Pulled up and was unloaded and checked in within 5 minutes thanks to Conner at valet. Restaurant was tentative serving us and one of the best burgers. Will stay here again!
The room was spacious and had an excellent view and the hotel is perfectly located. The bed was comfortable. I liked the bar area outside with a TV.
One day the room was not fully serviced. I had to ask for the tea/coffees to be replenished. Our neighbors were noisy on the last night, but this is not the fault of the hotel.
Hotel is a perfect location for our needs as it was downtown and we could walk everywhere - there's a Starbucks in the lobby and a bar/restaurant with patio onsite. Also a gym for folks who want to work out while traveling.
The property is a bit dated; in our bathroom the exhaust fan wasn't working and there was a bad smell coming from the sink drain when we used it.
Came for a business meeting with a colleague. Just needed to park for a couple hours and then meet at the hotel. Hotel lobby was nice and welcoming. The Starbucks is a nice little spot for a hotel and Hilton hotels are always my go to.
Calie, the valet, was extremely efficient and a sweetheart to us.
Such a great hotel and staff. The restaurant has excellent food as well.
I loved the snacks for purchase open late night with the self check out! Super convenient and easy to use
One of the elevators was out of service which made waiting for an elevator take some additional time
We stayed on the 14th floor and were happy with our room. The hotel location was perfect, near restaurants and shopping, but a short distance to the river. The atmosphere was inviting due to the light and airy lobby area. The room was clean, the beds comfortable, there was no waiting for hot water, it was quiet where our room was, and there was never a long wait for the elevator.
.
There was a restaurant on site which served good food, but the portions were far more than we could eat. There was also a Starbucks satellite there.
The only drawbacks were (1) there was no ice maker on our floor and (2) the creamers had soured, and (3) the coffee maker did not work properly.
Still a good stay and would certainly go back.
If I could give less than 1 star, believe me I would. I was absolutely shocked at the condition of this Hilton property & appalled by the treatment by the hotel staff. One would think that a Hilton hotel in a major city in the USA would be a world class hotel & experience. Hilton Knoxville proved that line of thinking wrong. Starting with the checkin, there were 5 people working the front desk. 4 out of the 5 were the most hateful, disrespectful, rude & self centered people in the history of hotel front desks. Ask many different questions in which none of them were answered correctly or to my satisfaction. The new girl checked me in & bless her heart, nobody wanted to help her on her 2nd day on the job. All of the others treated her like the red headed stepchild & were just plain awful & dismissive of her questions. That’s when I really chimed in that finally got one of the old ladies off of her butt & over to finally help. They probably didn’t like the new girl because she was young, beautiful & smart. I almost cancelled my reservation on the spot but decided to stay because I was tired from traveling all day. That was a mistake to say the least. 3 elevators. 1 out of order 2 working for a packed house & 18 floors of rooms. On my trip up to the 18th floor the elevator quit running. 35 min inside this box with 5 other people & a poodle. Ugh. Nightmare scenario realized!! I got to my 18th floor room & had a view of the parking garage out of my window. The room was not clean & smelled like mothballs inside a gym locker room. The tv didn’t work, the water was like warm that evening & ice bucket challenge cold by the morning. The toilet ran all night & the shower head was a plastic turned yellow from 1981. The towels were like sandpaper & the noise, OMG the noise. Between the neighbors fighting & TV’s turned up full blast to the drunks with sleep apnea on the other side of me plus the thunderstorms all night & the elevators ever move heard just as if you were on board….the noise was hell. Not a wink of sleep. Oh & the smoke alarm battery was low because it beeped every 30 sec. Not one of my calls to the front desk about the conditions of my room were answered by an hotel staff in person. Not one. So unprofessional. Breakfast was good but overpriced ($50.00 for an omelette, potatoes & toast. Hot tea & OJ) dinner wasn’t much better ($45 for a cheeseburger well done & string fried & a coke) went to get my car from valet & had to go fetch it myself (I was still charged $40 plus tax for the valet service when the garage across the street had 24 hour parking for $7.00…learned that as I was leaving) This Hilton was at best a DUMP!!! One would have a better experience at the Motel 6!!!
Traveling for business isn't anything new but finding those gem of individuals sometimes can be. In this property I can't say there's too many things that stand out outside of the people. Sam and I believe his name was Ed or Incredible Ed, the guy with the beard. These guys truly know how to make things stand out. Making personal connections trying to get to know individuals and their teams not, making one feel overwhelmed even though Bassmaster Classic has everybody overwhelmed. Really a great crew out here.
I would like to say that the hotel definitely needs upgrading but the people that are running it are definitely holding it up just kind of feel bad that nobody has invested enough on this building to keep these great workers.
Fully average and dated Hilton. My limited interactions with the staff were pleasant enough, and the building exterior is in good condition. The main lobby is nothing to write home about; it's pretty large and has a fair number of spots to work or meet up with others.
My room was bordering on sad times, in part because everything needs to be freshened up a lot. The bathroom included a shower with good pressure and decent counter space. But the grout around the shower and the trim around the door was clearly untouched for years – the little things you notice, you know? Beyond that the toilets in the rooms were extremely weak. Not just mine but those of my neighbors because in the room it was easy to hear others' rooms.
I definitely heard one neighbor's TV, and my other neighbor's toilet and bathroom activity. I don't expect pindrop quiet in a hotel room like this but this was not good.
The bed and pillows were horribly uncomfortable. I had neck and back pain throughout my stay here.
The pool was closed for the season when I was here; the fitness center was okay but quite dated, once again (think: oldish Precor equipment, drop ceilings.)
So overall completely average, and not what I'd equate with a Hilton branded hotel.
It was my first time visiting for a softball tournament, It was great from start to finish. I received amazing service from Meme pointing out the different activities and restaurants in the area. House keeping was very courteous with any of the extra things I needed. I am very excited for the next time I come back to the area. I have no doubt that I will be back here.
