Beware the half price dinner offer
Pros:

Lovely hotel and staff. But be aware that special offers come with the caveat (small print so small that you couldn't read it) such as half price steak dinners with the small print that you had to have 2 courses ( which were not cheap) in order to access this offer. We found out too late and it left a bitter taste of what would otherwise have been a great experience. Lots of other people in the restaurant felt conned by this non offer also.

Good food coupled with excellent service at Chez Mal restaurant
Pros:

We went for dinner at Chez Mal restaurant in this hotel and we found the ambience and the food to be great. Tried some delicious fresh trout and flatiron with avocado a unique combination. But to top it up the service provided by our hostess Billie was remarkable helping us with her recommendations and making amendments to our order when we changed our mind a bit later. Thank You Billie for making a memorable evening!

Tired - very tired.
Pros:

God knows when the place was last refurbished. It desperately needs a complete make over. The design and décor of the bar makes it look like a 1950's truck stop. Our bedroom "suite" was a dismal place with a second ridiculously placed bath in a corner of the room. The only bright spot was a first class breakfast served by two excellent waitresses.

Excellent
Pros:

I had a really lovely dinner here with my best friend. The food was fresh, full of flavor, and clearly prepared with care. What made the evening stand out even more was the service. Billie was incredibly attentive, warm, and genuinely made us feel welcome without ever being intrusive. Everything flowed smoothly, and you could tell there’s real pride in what they do here. I’d happily come back.

Generally favourable
Pros:

Initial confusion over our room leading to about an hour's delay in gaining access but to another room than the one requested so we didn't have view over to sea. There was more delays in serving dinner due to a large party but it was excellent when it came and our server Hannah went out her way to look after us. Room was clean and bed comfortable but the under sheet had a life of its own wandering all over. Breakfast OK but marmalade had to be requested. Again good service from. Hannah and excellent having Oat milk available. Location v. interesting and Tram service to centre v. good

Excellent hotel and staff
Pros:

Hotel was beautiful. Located about 2 miles from city centre, excellent tram route takes you a minute walk from hotel. Room was spacious and lovely view overlooking water. Breakfast was excellent (both quality and service). All the staff were helpful and friendly, especially Hannah would offered great advice on local restaurants. Overall lovely relaxing stay.

Wonderful location, hotel, food and brilliant staff!
Pros:

We had a lovely night away at Malmaison Edinburgh. The hotel is lovely and the staff friendly and very welcoming. The hotel has a great feel and decor and is easy to access - just round the corner from Port of Leith tram stop. We stayed in a Junior Suite and found the whole experience great value for money.

A real highlight was the food both at dinner and breakfast. A great choice of food - for both meat eaters and vegetarian/vegan diets. For me, the highlight was the roasted beet starter. Compliments to the chef team this weekend of Vishal, Himal and Ray.

We will definitely be back. Highly recommended for a short break or a base for a longer stay while exploring the city.

Had it’s day
Pros:

I’ve stayed with Malmaison and at this location a few times in the past, and whilst the team were welcoming and friendly, the rooms are a little tired.
Pets are welcome to stay which is a big plus, but you pay a fair premium for the privilege, and as a solo traveller you’re already paying more to stay than you would as a couple for your room.
Combined with a format that feels a bit tired I was left feeling it’s no longer worth the premium price tag.
The food on this occasion was below par too. The evening meal in the bar area where service was friendly but slow and the food lacked flavour - garlic mushrooms with absolutely no garlic and sauces that were thin and bland. Wine selection is excellent and good value for money.
Breakfast is served in the bar area for pet owners which means you can’t access the continental options or hot drinks. The cooked breakfast was also hit and miss - temperature of the food was tepid, bacon was dry and hard and no option for toast unless you can make it yourself in the restaurant.
At over £400 for a 2 night stay I struggle to see it as value for money.

Amazing Valentines Meal!
Pros:

Me and my girlfriend were quite surprised to walk into the empty dining room come 6pm on valentines, however we quickly discovered the incredible quality of both the service and food as we were met with smile of our server Billie! The dining room quickly filled up over the next hour and the cocktails: passionfruit martini and Hugo spritz were amazing and well presented. The food was also incredible and I’d recommend anyone to try the truffle fries!!!
