Nothing would have prepared us for the dilapidated and unclean experience of this Fairfield Inn, and the very unfriendly and uncaring staff. After disturbing the person at the front desk to check in (she didn’t seem like she wanted to be bothered), our next impression was the elevator, which smelled sour and dirty, which then didn't work the next morning so we had to haul our luggage down the stairs when it was time to leave. Our room had a musty, funky odor when we walked in, so even though the window did not have a screen, we slept with the window open because the odor was so oppressive. The bathroom had brown, grimy-looking edges along the floor and caulking, and the fixtures seemed like they needed a good scrubbing. There seemed to be mold along the walls and carpeting. The bathroom shower did not drain well, so we were standing in several inches of water while showering, enough to almost overflow the shower pan. There was only one functioning ice machine for the facility, which was the type of machine where you scoop out your ice with a plastic scoop. That is incredibly unsanitary when you wonder who has touched the scoop which then gets put back on top of the ice, only to be dug out after it gets buried under the new ice. There’s no way we were going to risk breakfast when there seemed to be so many violations of health codes.
Not only was this horribly shocking for a Bonvoy facility, I would have been shocked if a Motel 6 or Super 8 had this kind of facility and staff. I'm sure this comes nowhere near meeting the requirements for a Bonvoy facility, so I don't know if/when this will all be corrected.
I purposely booked this hotel because we had a wonderful stay at the one in Lindale, Tx. This is NOT the same quality. The bathroom needs work. I listed 2 adults and 3 children and got 2 towels. The ac isn't worth a quarter. It needs a lot of work and better help at the front desk.
Room was clean .TV was not working. No signal. Shower door would not stay closed. Floor of shower was slick.not safe.
Hotel is just a bit dated & rundown. Sticky floors, looks like they had a leak due to multiple fans blowing on the carpet. It was cheaper than some of the other hotels. I bumped the AC in the middle of the night and the whole cover fell off. Maybe the maintenance man forgot to put the screws back in. On the plus side bed was comfortable.
The toilet in first room was broken. In the second room the carpet was wet and refrigerator was broken. Had odor in room. Wasn't satisfied with the accommodation .
Hotel was in an unsafe location. Upon arrival, there was an individual engaging in illicit activities in the parking lot, and another individual attempting to flirt with staff, as well as myself. Property had a sign that stated no smoking on property. When we reached our floor, we were met with an overwhelming scent of marijuana. Our room was also an overpowering scent. Staff was nice enough to issue a full refund so we could go somewhere else. When walking back to our car, there was an individual lurking around the vehicles, looking through the windows.
Clean
Served its purpose for one night. Hallway smelled of pee.
Shower floods because it doesn’t drain, they ran out of towels, staff was friendly but the hotel itself was outdated, and not clean
We stayed here because we’re Marriott Bonvoy members and rely on Marriott’s good reputation for quality in the hospitality industry. Boy were we wrong! This hotel is WAY below any other Marriott we’ve stayed in. At check-in, we were willing to pay extra (compared with other hotel/motels in the area) with the belief that we’d get a nice room, a decent breakfast and an overall good place to stay.
The woman who checked us in was very nice, but she assigned us to a really crappy room. The curtain had a big tear in it, the carpet was wet and the hotel elevator and floors were dirty and unkept. (See pictures)
We were really tired from our all day road trip, so we just went with it and tried to go to sleep.
The next morning we had another full day of driving ahead of us, so we were hoping for a decent breakfast to help us get an early start. The hotel didn’t seem full, but they were out of just about everything in the breakfast area. I asked if there was more of several items, and was told no.
Days later in our trip we stayed in a Marriott Courtyard in Fort Lauderdale, and it was really nice.
Marriott needs to step it up and clean up this hotel if it expects loyal customers to continue to stay at their inns.
Check in took a while, no wifi or Internet upon check-in, hotel was worn out and unclean, staff was inattentive
I felt the hotel is not up to other hotels.
Had to unexpectedly check out a day earlier than expected. I paid in cash have to wait 35 minutes for a manager because they dropped my deposit money and its been a week and 2 days since check out and they will not answer the phone to give me back my money for one night. Plus there where croaches inside and all outside th8s location. The night crew was the best hands down but this is ridiculous and i will never stay at this location again.
Place smells bad. Was unable to eat breakfast after seeing worker using paper towel to wipe grease from skillet full of sausage with bare hands. Workers or workers friends woke me up every morning about 5am talking loudly, playing car music loudly and smoking a joint. Workers or workers friends constantly hanging out in the lobby area and front door. Workers friend was sleeping in lobby on one occasion. Unprofessional atmosphere.
Staff was friendly and responsive.
The saty was everything to be as expected. However there where multipe wood roaches in the front lobby.
letter sent to management
I am writing to express my deep disappointment with our recent stay at your Fairfield Inn location in Mobile Alabama. My husband and I traveled from Detroit, Michigan, for a business commitment and to attend his sister’s funeral—an already emotionally difficult time.
Unfortunately, our experience at your property only added to the distress.
However, upon checking into Room 320, we were shocked to find bugs on the wall near the bathroom and visible mildew on other areas of the wall. This was incredibly unsettling. Due to the tight schedule for the funeral service at 10:00 AM, we had no time to address the issue immediately. I did report the condition of the room to the front desk, and while the staff offered us the option to switch rooms or check out, we simply could not manage a move at that time.
After returning later that evening, emotionally and physically drained, we opted to switch rooms. Unfortunately, the second room was no better. I have attached photos to illustrate the condition—it was simply unacceptable by any standard, let alone Marriott’s.
In addition, the parking lot was extremely unclean, which further contributed to the negative impression.
Room was dank, smelled musty, lighting was extremely poor especially in shower area, was not impressed but cannot complain for the $$. Breakfast area was good assortment but they had a large fan trying to dry up the floor whether they had just shampooed it or what- do not know but very noisy and smelly. Upon checking in person steered us to a new, good Mexican restaurant minutes away but did not know how to get to anywhere else.
The day staff were super friendly and helpful.
