Restaurant had good food but expensive
Valet attedant on Friday and Saturday Morning was great and we enjoyed him.
Most of the staff was nice.
The restaurant servers were joyful and pleasant.
We had valet parking and when our car was brought to us the next morning someone had our sirius turn on to hard rock, lights had been switched to off from auto and other features were changed on our menu setup.
Restaurant food expensive
Rooms were set up inconvenient so you have to move coffee maker that is underneath in a cabinet to a cart on another wall to plug in along with the coffee and tea.
Bathroom etremly small, room for 1 person only. No extra towels or washcloths.
No place to put personal item on.
1 chair to sit in.
Restaurant doesn't have a good choice to order for breakfast food.
Have stayed previously but was disappointed in this most recent stay in terms of the construction, atmosphere and service. In terms of the construction, we weren't notified until after reserving and only a week prior. The main library was not available along with the master fireplace, which we had previously enjoyed and was greatly missed during our most recent stay as it is the majority of the atmosphere of the hotel. The library/relaxation/reading space was moved to another area which during intermission at the theatre next door became inundated with people as they hosted an intermission cocktail hour which was highly disturbing. Check in was on a fold out table with entering through the restaurant which overall seemed uncomfortable and cluttered. Our rooms were clean, spacious and comfortable which we enjoy with each visit and greatly look forward to. They are always more than accommodating for our pets and even provided bowls for them which we always appreciate. Staff was overall kind but not overtly helpful or pleasant as previous experiences. When asked questions they seemed unknowledgeable and lacked initiative in procuring answers to what they didn't know. The food remained good, however lacked variety and the kitchen closed relatively early. Their meat and cheese tray was fairly unvaried and paltry considering value. Hoping this reduced experience in their restaurant, service and atmosphere is temporary - like their construction- as we've always enjoyed staying here but wouldn't recommend during the construction if this is the case, given our most resent experience.
The location, the bell hop guys. The check in person.
Service in the bar. Sat down for 9 minutes before we got up to move to the bar then waited 5-6 more minutes to even be acknowledged. No smiles anywhere bad vibe.
Enjoyed our stay at the Heathman Hotel. It is beautiful and in a great location. Walkable area. The staff is helpful and friendly. The rooms are large and well appointed. We went while the hotel is being rennovated, and despite this, the hotel ran smoothly and was not noisy or messy. They are doing a good job with the inconvenience. I would recommend this hotel with out hesitation.
CONS:
We ordered the Valentine's tea service, and while the website says gluten free options, the gluten free options felt like an afterthought. They brought out a much smaller and disappointing selection. After having had other gluten free tea services, my expectations were much higher, especially for the cost at $120/ea for the Valentine's tea. Additionally we both felt sick afterwards, and spent Valentine's afternoon in our room with gurgle gut.
We came during the lobby remodel, which wasn't mentioned during the reservation process, and the initial impression was awkward. This is completely understandable and common during construction and otherwise did not interfere with access or our experience at all.
PROS:
At the tea, the chef came out and offered replacement items from the restaurant menu at no charge. When we mentioned we were sick, the staff brought ginger ale and water to our room, again at no charge. At check out they comped the entire tea service. They were incredibly accommodating. The building is beautiful and the room was excellent.
SUMMARY:
We would absolutely visit again. We would love to see the completed lobby remodel. As a celiac though, I would not order the tea service.
Huge room and tv! Good facilities and location.
Bathroom was huge but a bit towards the older side.
I enjoy the location of the hotel in downtown Portland. The restaurant has delicious breakfast offerings. Rooms are always clean and comfortable
I may have adjusted my stay times as the hotel is under construction with a make over to the guest checking and library.
My husband and I stayed at The Heathman for a staycation. We had a lovely time. Everyone was welcoming, kind, and helpful. Our room was spacious and clean! The location is fantastic and we were able to walk to dinner, to the grocery store for snacks and to an event at Pioneer Courthouse Square. We are looking forward to our next stay!
I generally don't like staying in downtown areas, but the Heathman Hotel was very pleasant and located near lots of interesting things within walking distance. It was a bit of a surprise when I first pulled up because you couldn't get into the main lobby due to renovations. I didn't pay attention closely to their email. I was very grateful for the help from the valet as going in through the restaurant with the steps would have been difficult for me. All of the staff are wonderful and so helpful. The restaurant was excellent, and room service was a lifesaver the first night I got there.
The Heathman is the perfect base for taking in downtown Portland’s art scene (and shopping!). It is elegant without being stuffy, and staff members are personable and professional.
I can see the allure, the location is spectacular, the building is grand, but the overall feel was "meh". The room felt cheap, nothing special, and for the price, a little special would have been nice!
The Heathman shines, even while under construction. The rooms are fantastic, quiet, modern yet timeless, and extremely well appointed. The staff are friendly and professional, and my experience with happy hour at the bar was tip top and the food was wonderful. I look forward to my next stay.
Convenient downtown location, good restaurant and comfortable rooms!
Main lobby under construction but not a bother
Thank you!
Excellent!
Beds were super comfortable. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
Shower wasn't draining properly
The valet staff was very friendly. The hotel cards with book quotes was a lovely touch. I loved using a bike to see the waterfront and that a concert next door was easy to do, too! It was a great first visit to Portland.
I wish I had a view out the window
The location is great to the downtown area. I was in town for a conference at the Hilton and it was a designated overflow hotel. It was steps away from the conference. This hotel is more on the boutique side of lodgings. The room was well appointed, the bathroom and the dressing are were a different experience, but unique. The library is a beautiful space that is conducive for relaxing or getting work done. The restaurant faces the street and is convenient after a long day of conferencing. The adjacent chocolate shop is a bonus - the hot chocolate is fantastic!
There didn't seem to be a ramp for luggage or for folks for whom stairs are challenging (arthritic knees and ankles). There was a small service lift (?) that was not very clear how to use. No one offered to help or to offer the use of the lift.
