Cons:

The two-night reservation I had requested at check-in had not been properly recorded, and it took a long time to resolve the issue. The refund amount was small, and even when I contacted them, their responses were slow. It has now been two and a half weeks, and the refund still has not been processed, which makes me wonder whether they have any intention of addressing the matter. Some staff members (cleaning, concierge, and room service) were nice and friendly, but others could use some improvement.

Loved everything about this place
Pros:

My recent stay at the **JW Marriott New Orleans** was outstanding from start to finish. The rooms were spacious, impeccably clean, and beautifully appointed—modern, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed for both relaxation and productivity. The bedding was exceptionally comfortable, and every detail reflected the high standards you expect from the JW brand.

The common areas were equally impressive. The lobby and shared spaces were elegant, inviting, and well-maintained—perfect for informal meetings or simply unwinding after a day in the city. The atmosphere struck a perfect balance between sophistication and warmth.

What truly elevated the experience, however, was the staff. Every team member I encountered was exceptionally friendly, professional, and genuinely eager to help. From check-in to departure, the service was attentive without being intrusive, and any request was handled promptly and graciously. The doorman, I wish I could remember his name made every day I was there a great one. He put a smile on my face and made my wife feel so welcomed.

The bartenders George, Jay and the rest of the crew were exceptional. They made the bar at the hotel our favorite spot in the entire city and I am talking about a city full of great bars!

I would highly recommend this property to anyone visiting New Orleans. It delivers comfort, quality, and hospitality at the highest level.

Poor Value for money
Pros:

Do yourself a favor, if you are looking for a high end hotel or for luxury, go somewhere else.

I have stayed at other JW Marriot's (Vancouver, Nashville) and this location does no justice to the brand. There is essentially no restaurant at this so called 4 star property. There is an "executive lounge" for an upcharge. The lobby bar has people walking through, with one waiter running around like a chicken without a head. Not his fault - its a management problem.

It get's worse once you get to the room. No slippers, no shower cap and rough towels, that have seen better days. They are "happy to bring you those amenities" if you call them.

Hopefully this is not a sign of bad times at Marriot.

Worst part is that we have 3 more days here...

Great hotel in convenient location!
Pros:

We loved this hotel! It was in a great location and the rooms were modern and spacious. Our only complaint was that the breakfast and snacks in the Executive Lounge were meager at best. Otherwise, we had a great stay!

Would stay again
Pros:

Fabulous customer service all around and an enjoyable stay.

We didn't book the executive lounge because I misunderstood the hours/availability for our Thursday- Sunday stay (per the website- Monday – Friday 6:30am-9:30am; Saturday-Sunday 7:00am-11:00am; Hors d’oeuvres: Sunday – Thursday 5:30pm-7:30pm). At check in, the staff member said the lounge was open every evening, not just breakfast. I'm not sure what the discrepancy is but it was fine to just go out to get our own food. We did enjoy the daily morning coffee in the lobby and the donuts and hot chocolate they brought out on Saturday AM in the lobby. Nice experience at the lovely hotel bar as well.

We had a corner room which had great space and we enjoyed our view of Canal St. Even though we were on the 18th floor, we also had the Canal St. noise so if you are a light sleeper, bring your own earplugs or use the ones that will likely be in the bedside table drawer. Room to room/hallway noise was a non issue, which is always nice.

Mardi Gras Parade and the hotel- We came to NOLA to catch our out of state high school band play in one of the parades. After a lot of research, we opted to book this hotel and to book official grandstand seats down in Lafayette Square. That combo was perfect- we didn't have to cross the parade route to go back to our room for a clean restroom and to drop off heaps of parade throws. However, during the trip when we wanted to do other things, we really had to plan because things like crossing Canal can be really hard if there are parades in progress. All doable though with planning. Just some tips!

J.W. Marriott, New Orleans: Quietly Elite
Pros:

Once you stay in luxury-branded hotels, it becomes difficult to find satisfaction in what society considers “standard.” For leisure travelers, it’s rarely about a checklist—it’s about a feeling. The it-factor. That intangible pull that makes you want to linger, return, and quietly compare every stay that follows.

Chasing the it-factor is not unlike chasing adrenaline. And when reviewing hotels across multiple tiers of the STR scale, one truth always holds: satisfaction is rooted in expectation. Set expectations correctly, and a property can exceed them in the most memorable ways.

Which brings me to the JW Marriott New Orleans.

———

First Impressions: Elite, Not Luxury -

I’ve visited New Orleans several times, and the JW Marriott has always stood out along Canal Street. Its exterior carries an air of quiet elitism—distinct, structured, and confident. I set my expectations firmly within the STR Upper Upscale category.

Arrival confirmed that instinct.

Valet moved with purpose, opening the doors and guiding me seamlessly inside. The lobby felt intentional—clean, structured, and composed, like an elegant task list executed flawlessly. At the reception desk, it became immediately clear where this property would shine.

Service That Doesn’t Disappear -

This wasn’t service that performed and retreated. This was presence.

True ladies and gentlemen serving ladies and gentlemen.

The guest services team wrapped a gift I purchased from the on-site store—an unexpected gesture that set the tone. I then explored the executive lounge, access included in my rate.*¹ It quickly became a favorite retreat during the stay.

The lounge offered a refined calm: premium loose-leaf teas, small jars of honey, and hosts who were professional yet genuinely interested in your day. Conversations felt natural, never scripted. The atmosphere was warm and unforced—an experience that sets this property ahead of many competitors.

Just as I began to unwind that evening, a bottle of welcome champagne and chocolate-covered strawberries arrived at my room.*¹ The timing felt effortless. Thoughtful. Personal.

The Room: Elevated and Crisp -

My corner king room on the 26th floor (Room 2609) delivered exactly what you hope for in an urban stay—space, light, and immersion. The city view pulled you in. The ensuite was generously sized, and the extra floor space was immediately noticeable.

JW Marriott’s signature Geo bedding was crisply styled, the room carried a subtle, inviting scent, and every surface was immaculate. Though recently renovated, what impressed me most was maintenance. Scuffs and wear common in high-traffic hotels were nowhere to be found—walls, baseboards, and finishes were clearly cared for and regularly refreshed.

Fitness & Facilities: Cleanliness on Display -

The gym was slightly larger than average and thoughtfully designed. Cardio machines faced large windows overlooking the skyline and pool—making even a routine workout feel intentional.

What truly stood out was cleanliness. I watched housekeeping thoroughly sanitize an entire machine after use—front, sides, and even the back of the display. Alongside cardio equipment, the gym offered cable machines and free weights sufficient for a complete session.

It’s rare to see cleanliness performed so visibly—and so thoroughly.

Design, Details & the Final Verdict -

Design and furnishings throughout the property land in what I’d call standard elevated. Not over-styled, but polished and consistent. The JW Marriott New Orleans understands its lane and executes it well.

Cleanliness and service receive perfect scores. The only notable critique is the shower head—ample water pressure would have completed the experience. The controls are well positioned, the secondary nozzle is a welcome feature, and the clear glass enclosure is appreciated. Still, the shower earns a solid 8/10.

Final Thoughts -

The JW Marriott New Orleans delivers an experience that feels elite rather than indulgent—structured, thoughtful, and impeccably executed. It sets itself apart not through excess, but through consistency, care, and genuine service.

For travelers who value elevated standards and a refined sense of place, this property quietly earns its reputation.

¹ Booking through a travel agent provided additional perks that significantly elevated the stay. I highly recommend a rate that includes breakfast and executive lounge access for this hotel.

Terrible Valet and experience
Pros:

JW Marriott, it's a shame when me and my partner go to eat in a restaurant (Fogo De Chao) located in your hotel, and I come back to a 3-inch gash in my tire, along with damages to my rim and bumper, and instead of taking responsibility, your company tries to pin it on me. I have been shown footage that supposedly proves that it came in to the garage with a flat tire, yet in the footage, the person driving is YOUR valet.
I have requested video footage to show me driving into the garage with a flat tire, but none can be produced. I have a tire specialist who is willing to testify that there was no way I was riding on a flat, as there would be evidence on the tire and rim. I also have a witness that the alarm was going off on my vehicle as it was being driven down the ramp by your valet. I asked the valet, as well as your representative, Mr. Louis Miller, to explain why that is, and have been given no explanation.
In addition, if the tire was flat when we gave it to the valet, why was I not notified then? Why did my brand new vehicle not notify me that my tire was flat, as it does any other time? When the car was handed back to me after our dinner, that was nearly $300, the valet made no attempt to explain the situation or to inform me that my tire was busted. He handed me my key, took his TIP, and walked away with no explanation.
I have kept the tire as evidence, and will be relying on YOUR video footage, as well as witnesses and expert testimonials to seek compensation for this situation. I am highly disappointed in the quality of care that was bestowed upon myself and my vehicle from a 800+ billion dollar company. I was also told that my valet charge would be removed due to the unprofessional circumstances surrounding how this situation was handled, and your company couldn't even bother to hold their word on that. I guess you really need my $17 to make sure the billions keep coming in.
Also, interestingly enough, Mr. Louis Miller claims the valets were aware of the damages when I drove up. Yet, your valet, Mr. Thaddeus, the same valet that is in the video getting out of my vehicle with a flat, was in the process of filing a report for me, when he suddenly claimed that he had video proving it came in that way. Sounds a little suspicious.
I will never stay at any of your hotels, or eat at any restaurant on your premises, EVER again. You have lost a guest and gained a scathing review, as I will be letting EVERYONE I know aware of how your company treats it's guests.

Great experience minus the front desk issues at check in
Pros:

I’ve have stayed at this particular property multiple times, which speaks to how much I generally enjoy it. Overall, this stay was excellent and reinforced why I continue to return.
The service truly stood out, especially from the bell staff and the executive lounge team. Dejuene and Jerry, in particular, were exceptional. They were genuinely warm, attentive, and welcoming throughout my visit. Their hospitality elevated the entire experience and made the morning stop to the lounge a highlight of the day. The hot chocolate in the lobby was also a nice touch.

The only area that fell short was the check-in process. My loyalty status wasn’t acknowledged, and key benefits were not proactively communicated. There was also some confusion regarding room assignment, which required multiple trips back to the front desk to resolve. While the issue was ultimately handled, the interaction lacked the polish and attentiveness I typically associate with this brand.
That said, the rest of the stay more than made up for the initial frustration, and the hospitality shown elsewhere in the hotel was exemplary. I’m confident this was an isolated issue or inexperienced person, and I look forward to returning again.

Amazing
Pros:

I love how clean the property was and the view was amazing

Cons:

I was lost trying to find the location. The address does not put you to the front of the building it’s put you on the side of a restaurant which you can’t get in unless someone lets you in.

Stay at JW Marriott
Pros:

I stayed at the JW Marriott New Orleans and was upgraded to the premium, larger guest room with Canal Street view. The room was spacious and thoughtfully designed with plenty of natural light, a comfortable seating area, and a clean, modern aesthetic that made it easy to unwind after a full day in the city. The location is ideal being on Canal Street, which is walkable to the French Quarter, shopping, dining, and major attractions! The Canal Street view was a highlight, especially in the mornings.

We stayed here over Christmas and were impressed by how much magic this hotel and their staff sprinkled over the holiday. Treats in the lobby, omelette station in the lounge on Christmas morning, wonderful decorations, and every one of their staff members was so welcoming & helpful. I will absolutely stay here again.
