We stayed at the above mentioned hotel on the indicated dates. The reservation was made through Trivago. The Wyndham name brought on images of high class of hotel. After our stay, we were very disappointed that the Wyndham Hotels & Resorts corporation would allow their name to be associated with such a low class hotel.
Upon checkin we were asked to provide a credit card for incidentals, which is customary at most hotels. I overheard the conversation that the next guest had with the clerk. He indicated that there was parking fee. I went back to the clerk and asked him whether or not my reservation included the parking fee. He said it was included.
We were given the key card envelop that had been obviously reused multiple times, with only one key card in it, not the usual two cards at most hotels. We were directed to the backside of the hotel to where our room was located. (I guess for the price, an ocean view room would be too much to expect!) We opened the door to the room and things continued on a downward trend. The overall condition of the room was horrible.
The vanity faucet was corroded.
The bathtub had been refinished. The refinishing coat was peeling at the tub drain.
The caulking along the floor where it meets the base of the tub was either missing or peeling up.
The paint on the wall just above the base board, facing the commode, was peeling as well.
There was a hand soap dispenser rack in the vanity area, but no hand soap dispenser. Essentially the same thing in the bathtub/shower. Dispenser racks mounted on the shower wall, most likely for body wash, shampoo, and conditioner, but no such products available. We found one small package of bar soap.
The cushions on the chair at the desk were damaged.
The beds had a fitted sheet and top sheet only: no blanket or comforter. I personally used bath towels as a blanket to keep warm overnight.
Upon check out the next morning, I asked for a receipt for any charges that may have been made to the room. The front desk clerk who checked us in the night before was the same clerk in the morning gave me the receipt: a tall gentleman of Indian or Pakistani descent with black curly hair, black beard, and black glasses. There was $15.00 charge for the parking, despite the clerk telling me the night before that the parking was included in my payment to Trivago.
If I could give this hotel a zero star rating, I would. I am having serious doubts about every staying at another Wyndham property again.
The location
The room was dirty, with mold in the bathroom and the shower curtains
Absolutely nothing
Says free breakfast but they didn’t even put anything out. They said they decided not to. Beds were so uncomfortable. Place was an absolute slump.
The pictures on the website are not up to date. The property is in much worse condition than shown, very unkept.
The pool had green scum on the bottom, the chaise lounges were ripped.
The breakfast was only waffles and cold cereal. No one was maintaining the space. Waffle batter was spilled all over the counter. The juice machine offering two flavors was not in working order-no sign stating this.
No cream for the coffee, only milk in a picture with Saran Wrap covering it, very sketchy looking. The garage was overflowing. The fresh fruit was old and wrinkled.
Many of the walls were deteriorating, peeling paint. The faucets in our room were corroded.
The only positive is the Seawall is literally across the street.
Would not recommend.
Nada
El desayuno que decía que ir había no tenía había solo café
Nada fue lo qie ponen en la web aparte el desayuno nada que ver
No tenia shampoo pedi dos habitaciones juntas y me las dieron separates
They charged me $15 for parking even though I payed for a room. He said it was normal to charge extra for parking. I have never paid extra for a room I paid for a night.
The location was fine. but I was unable to stay because of the room was so far away from the elevator and with my disability , I could not walk the long distance. Had to stay at a different hotel.
A different room. A lot closer towards the elevator. Where I would have been able to bring my bags in without any trouble walking about three doors down instead of 8 to 10 or more doors down.
I would NOT suggest this hotel to anybody. This is a very bad place to spend your good times in Galveston. The male working at the front desk was so very unhelpful, arrogant, and dismissive.
He states that I have two reservations upon check-in. I bet this caused by technology flinch. I recalled I had to redo it a few times on the Wyndham website. Obviously, the additional reservation was a mistake. He could cancel it and charge the cancellation fee (as per Wyndham policy: cancel 48 Hours before 4 pm on the day of arrival to avoid a 1 Night charge plus tax).
Honestly, I would mind it. But the fact that he said he can’t do anything and only Wyndam has my information blew my mind! I told him, "Why would you not have my information? You work here. Should you have all the information you need to cancel it? Obviously, you just checked me in, too!” He made me call the Wyndam helpline. Never encounter such a useless person at the front desk as him; no one should have him there. It is no brainer from his attitude that he doesn’t want to be there.
This was my first time with Wingate. I usually use other Wyndam hotel chains (La Quinta, Days Inn) with pretty decent experience, but this was my worst!!!
I have to call multiple times to speak to an agent to cancel the accidental reservation. It should not be this hard! Even the Customer Care agent made it harder and passed my calls around! They don’t even know their own company policy. I insisted, as I told them, that I obviously do not need the second one, and that it was a mistake, possibly a technology flinch.
Eventually, they created a case for my refund after I insisted and read their cancellation policy. At the time of writing this review, I have not received any refund of $ 212.22!.
Additionally, the front desk said parking is not included, and I have to pay $15 per day!!!! I stayed fron May 18-21, 2026 which cost $120 just for freaking parking!
If I ever come to Galveston again, I wouldn’t mind paying extra for a better hotel to have a better experience. This was my road trip with my partner and our dog. I didn't know better, and it was my first time in Texas. Wingate by Wyndam is horrible! The location is excellent, but there are plenty of options around at the same price. The building is in such poor condition. If Wyndam invests in better people and in maintaining the building, it would become one of the town's hot spots. But, I doubt it.
So, my last piece of advice. This place is absolutely a scam! Don’t stay here while you are in Galveston.
I didn’t get a chance to view the room or rate the staff. Room was not available at 4 pm to check in
Couldn’t give a rate didn’t get a chance to check in at 4 pm room wasn’t ready
Location
Nothing
place not good. I do not recommend to stay here
cleanliness
Clean room
No soap very little tp no ice machine working
I liked the area, it was close to everything we had planned to do over the weekend.
The rooms looked nothing like what the pictures look like, there was clear signs of mold, the baseboard came off and we had a dirty pillow case and the beds were small. They are “queen” but definitely feels like a full. We booked to pay at property but they still charged the card. Had to pay $30 for parking and had an incidental fee of $100 (was returned same day of checkout)
The hotel was excellent, especially the breathtaking ocean view that made the stay truly relaxing and memorable. Every morning, waking up to the sound of the waves and the beautiful scenery created a peaceful atmosphere that added so much comfort to the experience. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, which made the stay even more enjoyable. One of the best parts of the experience was the front desk staff, who were incredibly helpful and professional throughout the visit. They assisted with every request promptly and always greeted guests with warm smiles and kindness. Their friendly attitude and willingness to help made me feel welcomed and valued as a guest. It is rare to find such genuinely nice and caring people who go above and beyond to ensure visitors have a pleasant stay. Overall, the combination of the stunning ocean view, comfortable accommodations, and outstanding hospitality made the hotel experience unforgettable, and I would gladly recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing and enjoyable vacation.
