The room was comfy
The room was dated and tired, it needs an overhaul as well as more care and attention while cleaning.
It’s fine, if a little dated. Every room seems to have the sand corporate furniture but dressed to a good standard, breakfast has a lot of hot and cold choices including a huge selection of pasty and breads, two types of bacon and three types of eggs.
Just be careful at the hotel restaurant. A gratuity/service charge was consistently added without warning or disclosure on the menu.
Walking into the hotel there was a horrid smell on the lower floors which was there during our stay, not a great first impression. Upto reception via the escalators and it’s welcoming, checked in swiftly and my request when booking was catered for. The rooms are nice and comfortable with water coffee iron and hairdryers. Shower was good and the whole room clean. We had the breakfast in the morning which was well stocked with everyone’s tastes. I’d stay here again due to its fantastic location. However if the doubletree is available it’s the nicer of the 2, and more modern I’d stay there.
Convenient for station and conference I was attending.
All staff were very helpful and it was comfortable.
Limited choice of menu in the restaurant particularly for vegetarians.
On arrival to the street level lobby, in the lift and on the 3rd floor there was an unpleasant smell. Other visitors who travelled up in the lift agreed, it can only be described as a mild sewage smell. From reading other reviews this seems to be an issue that has been present for some time even though the hotel claim its been resolved.
After checking in, I tried to make my way up to my room on the 7th floor but the key card wasn't working so I had to visit all floors for the other visitors in the lift before I could go back down and get my key card working.
I decided to eat in the hotel restaurant but have a dairy allergy. When provided the menu I thought there maybe a QR code to scan to check the allergy information, this was not the case. When querying with the waitress and then a manager they both said, 'doesn't it tell you on the menu' followed by 'I might have to check'.
I was asked to confirm a couple of things on the menu I might like to have, the manager then came back and said the 2 choices I had provided 'should' or 'might' be ok. I had to point out that 'should' and 'might' wasn't acceptable as if I eat any dairy product this makes me very ill. I hope you can appreciate that while staying away, and having to attend a business course the next day and travel home I don't want to be suffering with the illness eating dairy causes.
Finally I did get clarification that the something I could order was dairy free, the whole scenario above though took 40mins before my order got placed and I was even asked if I'd like a drink!
I feel for an international hotel chain this is unprofessional and not conforming to the food standards agency requirements by law to have details of allergen information - would be interested to hear your thoughts on this.
Overall, my stay was disappointing, the only plus was the room was comfortable and clean and nice to have a TV where you can watch Netflix etc. rather than rely on the free channels which are mostly rubbish TV.
Lovely room
Pillows flattened to nothing
Good location. Friendly and helpful staff.
Location
