Me, my wife, and our 8-week-old baby stayed at this Holiday Inn on 7/2/26, booking the Stay & Dine package for £98 for the night. The package included a £25 food voucher per person and breakfast the following morning. Overall, this represents good value for money.
The evening food was pretty decent, and we enjoyed our meal. However, the breakfast was very mediocre and underwhelming compared to expectations — to the point where I’d honestly recommend going out for breakfast instead if you have the option.
Our stay got off to a poor start with the initial room we were assigned (Room 37). As soon as we entered, there was a strong damp smell, which immediately raised concerns — especially with a newborn baby. Upon checking the bathroom, we found black mould present in multiple areas. This was genuinely shocking and completely unacceptable for a hotel of this brand. It raises serious questions about room inspections and housekeeping standards. Photos have been attached to this review.
Thankfully, when I raised the issue at reception, the staff were prompt, apologetic, and professional, and immediately moved us to Room 141. This room was night and day different — clean, fresh, and exactly what we would expect from a Holiday Inn. Credit where it’s due: the way staff handled the situation was excellent.
One additional point worth noting for families and those requiring accessibility: there is no standard lift in the hotel. All rooms are accessed via short and standard flights of stairs. If you’re travelling with a stroller or pushchair, be prepared to carry it up and down. While wheelchair lifts are available, these require a staff member to operate, meaning you’re dependent on staff availability, which isn’t always ideal.
Overall
While the value of the Stay & Dine package, the helpful staff, and the replacement room were positives, the initial room condition, presence of mould, mediocre breakfast, and accessibility limitations significantly impacted our experience — particularly when staying with a very young baby.
For these reasons, I’ve left a 3/5 star review: an average stay with good potential, but let down by basic standards that really shouldn’t be missed.
