Village Hotel Katong by Far East Hospitality

I checked in at 5 minutes to 2 pm, only to be told that my room was not ready yet. Instead of asking if I would like to wait, the staff told me he has reassigned me to another similar room instead. I only found out much later, when it was too late to do anything about it, that this new room was barely habitable.

First thing I noticed was that the mini fridge was not working. It barely felt slightly cool to the touch, almost at room temperature. Since I was not expecting to use it that much, I decided to not ask to change room, instead calling reception to send up a bag of ice as I wanted to chill the bottle of water I had with me. Half an hour later, and the ice still had not arrived, so I had to call again and it was only after the second attempt did I get the bag of ice.

After dinner, I went out to catch a musical and by the time I came back it was almost midnight. That's when I found out that the room air con was not working. While there was some ventilation coming from the vents in the bathroom and at the doorway, there was nothing from the main vents above the bed at all. Since it was already late at night, I did not relish the idea of having technicians coming into the room to check on the air con. Neither did I want to repack everything I had already unpacked just so I could move to another room, so I decided to just bear with the heat. Thankfully, I made it through the night, but it was pretty uncomfortable and the sleep was very fitful.

Second time staying here and was just as good as our last visit. New cafes have opened up close to the hotel so we had a nice time trying them out. Rooms are quite spacious.

The hotel is located in what is essentially a residential area away from the city centre. That said, the location benefits from having lots of cafes, restaurants and bars in the immediate vicinity plus retail therapy from small local businesses to mega-malls.
Our room was comfortable, quiet and spacious with with an excellent walk in shower, comfortable beds, and a balcony. (A special shout out to Cindy who kept the place spotless).
We only used the hotel restaurant once as there are so many others in the area that we wanted to try. For a bit of local colour, have a stroll along Joo Chiat Road where dozens of small businesses sell everything from recycled sunhats to truck tyres.
Getting around the city is easy with Marine Parade MRT 200m from the front door and loads of buses into the city from the back of the hotel on East Coast Road.
An excellent hotel in a convenient and interesting location. Highly recommended.

Amazing Hotel, i have been staying in many hotels in Singapore, but this one is the best 😁😁 we really love our room, the great service, the location, everything is amazing, me and my family really loved staying here for our vacation (actually im still working, but also very comfortable to work too)

They were kind enough to welcome my birthday month and decorated the room nicely!

Good value for Singapore. Enjoyed a more local area than the city. Staff were extremely helpful.

The room was very spacious, with plenty of room for a family of four and all our belongings, which made the stay very comfortable. The breakfast was outstanding — both in quality and variety — and I especially appreciated the chance to try a range of local dishes. The pool, while not large, was clean and refreshing, and perfect for kids to enjoy. The location was also excellent, with easy access to transit, the beach, and many restaurants nearby.

We stayed here on a 2 night stop over at the tail end of our trip. The hotel itself isn’t central however I chose it as friends had recently stayed. It is easy walking distance to Marine Parade MR, bus stops and lots of restaurants nearby to chose from. We booked the Peranakan Club King bed which was spacious and I enjoyed the free standing tub. The hotel itself is a bit dated and the breakfast was ok but not outstanding. Staff were friendly and a special shout out to Kummar who looked after us in the Club Lounge.

Good price and good location.
