The location was 💯 and the property was clean.
The property was ok
Just over the road from Reading Terminal Market. Very central. Rooms, and bathroom very clean.
It was all good.
Amazing location. Dead center of town. That was great. The room was spacious and very clean. The house keeping staff was exceptionally lovely.
The staff at the reception was disappointing. Not very accommodating or friendly. Furthermore, they seem to be following so strict rules by Marriot that there was zero space for any personal or human touches. The hotel is also located just next to the rail roads and the noise was pretty loud inside the room.
In May 2026, the Mariott does not allow you to use your credit card in your phone’s wallet. They require an actual wallet, that is, a physical credit card to hold the collateral protection. They won’t let you use the cards on your phone to tap; apparently, “that’s against their policy”. So, you may order online pay for the whole stay, but if you happen to use only your phone to make purchases (like most do these days) and do not carry physical credit cards on you, they can’t check you in, and you won’t get any cancelation fees. They asked me absurd things such as calling my bank to ask them to fill forms with my credit card information. Eventually, after a long delay and wait, they sent me a form by mail which I filled with the card information, but they are obviously not up to speed with technology and, as the representative said, many people have this “problem” that they don’t carry a physical card and cannot check in. That’s absurd. They must update their policy and system and allow people to use their digital wallets to pay, like normal businesses in 2026. They should also train their employees better to resolve these issues, instead of just having them say they can’t check you in (they can and should!).
While I provided my credit card as a guarantee for the reservation, the hotel’s handling of payments and their treatment of the guests was entirely unacceptable.
1. Misleading Early Check-in Promises
The hotel informed the guests that joining the Bonvoy membership would allow for an early check-in. My wife and her colleague arrived at 7:00 AM and confirmed their membership, yet they were forced to wait until 3:00 PM. The staff repeatedly promised to send an email notification once the rooms were ready, but this email was never sent.
2. Hygiene Issues & Dismissive Service (April 19)
Upon entering the room, the guests found a water bottle that had already been opened and consumed. When they reported this, the front desk responded with unacceptable sarcasm, telling them they were "lucky" to have water at all. This lack of hygiene and professional courtesy is shocking for a Marriott property.
3. Refusal to Correct Payment & Receipt Disputes (April 20–23)
The most critical issue involves the hotel's chaotic billing:
• Double-Billing: Although my wife and her colleague paid the full amount via their own credit cards at check-in, my guarantee card was also charged.
• Failed Correction: On April 21, the guests requested the hotel to simply cancel the charge on my guarantee card and retain their onsite payments. The staff refused, claiming the "system cannot be changed."
• Receipt Denial: Despite the Booking.com confirmation stating that payment is to be made directly to the hotel, staff member incorrectly insisted that the hotel could not provide a receipt and that the guests must contact Booking.com. As this was an onsite payment, the hotel is legally required to issue the folio.
Close to everything. The bed and pillows were comfortable. They even had a handheld shower head, which is hard to find in U.S. hotels. The coffee from the little market shop in the lobby was wow — I don’t know what kind of coffee they use, but the latte I needed in the morning was absolutely delicious.
I didn’t like the valet customer service at all. They behaved very unprofessionally — I asked a simple question and got a sarcastic response. One of the guys acted like the guests were just his buddies from the block. At one point he even said, “Who wants to drive a Mercedes?” Very strange and lacking basic manners.
The lady at the coffee shop in the lobby makes really good coffee, but she always seemed moody and unhappy. I’ve stayed in many hotels around the world, and so far this place had some of the moodiest and least friendly staff I’ve experienced.
Also, for almost $300 a night, not even providing basic necessities like a toothbrush and toothpaste was disappointing.
Location
Allgood
It was big as you enter the building. The pantry market and bar located on the first floor
No shelves or Enough racks to hang up towels or anything
Friendly staff, quiet sunny room, comfortable bed including nice flat pillow, clean, central location.
No fan in the bathroom so steam and "fumes" more of an issue. Entries into hotel a bit disorganized. Exit closed signs next to entries I coukd use, while another had card-key entry that did not work. Water fountains broken.
