All around great activities and leisure experience and vacation
Pros:

Love the hotel and its many amenities. Great lobby atmosphere with coffee shop and bar. Great restaurants onsite. Fun things to do in and around the hotel like put put golf, cycling, fitness parcour, walking trails. Went there for a tennis camp for the second time and again it did not disappoint but enrich and improve our tennis skills.

Room temperature is uncomfortable (hot then cold then hot), common areas feel like mall of America, and the pool is dirt
Pros:

The main areas of the hotel feel like a huge mall. Very loud and busy. The hvac in the rooms is uncomfortable… very hot then very cold. But the pool is the worst. It’s so dirty. Actual dirt in the bottom of the pool and film and bandaids floating on the top of the water. The service has actually been good, however.

Experience of a lifetime
Pros:

Wonderful experience overall. Staff went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. Took a pickleball lesson followed by a massage. Both experiences were more than expected.

Tennis at JW Marriott Desert Springs
Pros:

I would highly recommend all the tennis camps at the Marriott Desert Springs facility.
1. Jim Leupold and his staff provide excellent instruction on basic and advanced technique, positioning and strategy. Play is mixed in with the drills so you can practice what you learned.
2. The tennis facilities and the hotel are fantastic.
3. The chance to play tennis on grass, clay and hard court at the same location is really fun and not available at most tennis facilities.
4. The weather in Palm Desert is great for tennis most of the year.
5. I have been attending the camps for 5+ years and have always had a great experience.

Over priced and over rated
Pros:

Beautiful property and setting but Hotel is tired and not well cared for. Thick dirt and dust on the edges of the Atrium surrounding the lobby
-Restaurants on property ( with exception of bar and Sushi) are far from the main lobby and figuring out how to get a reservation can be a problem
-Shower drain flooded the first morning we were there, had to be fixed by Hotel team
-Valet is 45$ per night....ridiculous ! Self park available for 25$ but the lot is quite a hike from the Hotel
-Our room wasnt cleaned on our last day there, no explanation.
-Hotel checkin was understaffed.
-Marriot Bonvoy app offered no was to contact Marriott customer service regarding our stay?

Worth every penny
Pros:

We unexpectedly booked a trip to Palm Springs and the hotel was on my bucket list. I love flamingos, saw the boats and decided I wanted a hotel that was a staycation.

Every single staff member gave 110% of who they were. The kindness, can do attitude and the desire to make our stay a memorable one were out of this world.

However Baba, was by far the one who left the biggest footprint on our heart. What started out as a simple hello quickly became a friendship which I have no doubt will span continents. Stay who you are, stay you.

The hotel in itself did not disappoint- it is in fact the destination it promises to be. It offers mini golf, golf, swimming pools, an aviary, complimentary bike rides, activities for the whole family, movie nights and live music to name but a few things.

Thank you for creating memories of a lifetime.

Wow. Color me happy and ready to go back next XMAS.
Pros:

I wasn't sure what to expect having been to many resorts before. Some are OK/ cookie cutter and others are "wow". This place rocks. From the amazing entrance (with plenty of grass for our four-legged family members) to excellent restaurants to this crazy little boat ride around the property, this is a well-thought-out resort. And the gym? Oh, the gym is to die for.

Diving in, Veronica Bush was all smiles at the Front Desk when we arrived. She was warm and friendly which, after all of the driving, was very welcome. She even moved things around and the Mrs. and me were put up in a nice suite. The view from the balcony was over the pool area to the golf course beyond. Talk about peaceful. Thank you, Veronica!

But it wasn't just Veronica. The woman in charge of fish feeding (couldn't see her name tag and did not want to stare at her upper body as that is rude) knew how to make this simple experience fun. Families in particular got a kick out of it.

The miniature golf course is wicked fun and challenging. The golf attendants took pity on me and gave me an extra golf ball as mine landed in the drink.

We were here at Christmas and the hotel NAILED IT with their choice of Mr. and Mrs. Claus. Yes, the two of them were available for photos (at a fee) but beyond photos, Mr. and Mrs. Clause hosted story time and played instruments. They also comforted me when I asked them to take a photo with my dog as this is likely my dog's last Christmas. You cannot pay for talent like this. These folks just care.

The included activities - bike riding, pickle ball, driving range - may not be for everyone and may make you feel like you cannot leave the resort. Pick and choose. The boat ride is well worth the $ spent but only at Christmas time I feel. Any other time and you might think you are in a short time-share presentation. I would also skip the Christmas brunch. The food was good but not exceptional.

And go to the gym. Seriously. The equipment? The yoga room. Go to the gym.

The Parting Glass: Please stop by and say, "Hi" to Veronica for us. She is a gem.

Very poor golf conditions this year at two great resort courses
Pros:

Just a note to share my dissatisfaction with the golf at this JW. We have been coming here for 20+ years and I have enjoyed both these courses consistently, UNTIL about 3-4 years ago. I was told around then some "new management" had come in and I could notice changes. First, the owner green fees quickly started climbing. I was used to playing around $100-120 as an owner in the timeshare villas. However, now they are charging almost $200 per round, IF you play at the earlier tee time (before 9am mostly). To make this worse, the conditions this year were very poor. The greens were very spotty in turf and putting was inconsistent. I played five times over a week and the practice tee assigned area never moved! So, you can imagine it looked like moon craters to the point you had to actively search for some grass to hit off of! I asked some of the associates and got only very non-committal responses that seemed to indicate that's just the way things were nowadays. Hopefully, if we come back next year, we will see some improvements, but given the last few visits, I am doubtful.

Overall okay but need some improvement
Pros:

Overall nice place. The room can be quite far from elevators and hard to navigate around. The bed is very comfortable. The housekeeping needs some improvement. Didn’t reset previous guest alarm (so it went off at 5am) and also didn’t change shampoo bottle (was empty). The pool water is comfortable but got some bugs floating around. The food is pretty good. And party space is beautiful.

Caged Birds for Entertainment — Deeply Disappointing
Pros:

I was deeply disturbed by the indoor “aviary” at the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa.

Many large and gorgeous tropical birds are kept in cages inside a room for guest viewing — flighted, intelligent animals confined indoors with no meaningful freedom. So sad.

Not only does this conflict with widely accepted animal welfare standards, including the Five Freedoms of Animal Welfare, and with guidance from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) on species-appropriate space and enrichment, but it is also especially troubling in California, a state with strong animal welfare expectations (including Penal Code §597), where the public reasonably expects humane, ethical treatment of animals!

This is not conservation or education at all, it’s confinement for entertainment.

I hope Marriott leadership seriously reevaluates this practice and transitions to humane, animal-free alternatives.

Nice Resort Feel, but Falls Short of JW Expectations
Pros:

I am a frequent traveler and a Marriott Titanium Elite member, so I base my hotel reviews on both the brand’s standards and my personal experiences.

I had an extra day over a weekend in Southern California and decided to stay at the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa. I used a Nightly Upgrade Award and was confirmed into a suite. The room was very nice and spacious, with a great view overlooking the pool area. The bathroom was particularly large and well designed, featuring both a soaking tub and a separate shower. There was also a good-sized desk, which allowed me to get some work done comfortably.

The property itself is very large, and it is a bit of a walk from the parking garage to the main lobby. Check-in was slower than expected, and I did have to ask about Titanium Elite breakfast benefits rather than having them proactively explained. I was ultimately told that breakfast at the restaurant was included as my benefit, and the breakfast buffet was quite good, with a nice selection of items.

There is no Concierge or Executive Lounge at this property. The resort is expansive, and it is easy to see why it is frequently used for large group events. During my stay, there were several groups and celebrations on property. The hotel was beautifully decorated for Christmas, which added to the overall resort atmosphere.

That said, the property does feel somewhat dated for a JW Marriott. While nothing was significantly wrong, there were small maintenance and wear items that stood out and detracted slightly from the experience. Service at the front desk was adequate but not at the level I typically expect from this brand.

The location is fairly isolated, so having a car is necessary. There is a full Starbucks in the lobby and several restaurants on property. I also ordered room service, which was very good and convenient.

Overall, this is a pleasant resort-style property with a nice atmosphere, solid accommodations, and good food. However, between the aging facilities and service that fell short of JW Marriott expectations, it did not quite rise to the level I would expect from this brand. That said, I would still consider staying here again, particularly for a relaxed resort stay

Overall it was good just some stuff that I would like to see change in the future.
Pros:

Very nice scenery and surrounding.

Cons:

Room needed some tlc not worth the price imo. Paint was chipping and you could see layers of paint from the past years… the air would make a loud boom noise every time it would shut off and wake us up through the night. Very annoying.
