Important information:

The white zone in front of The Hotel is for passenger drop off only and is limited. Do not leave your car unattended.

Good location and nice retro hotel but shame about some of the staff
Pros:

The location was excellent and the room was clean and big. There was a big fan above our bed which was welcome. We also enjoyed the water machine at the reception area which allowed us to refill our bottles with chilled flavored water. This was a very nice touch. The fridge and safe was good to have

Cons:

The staff at reception need training in customer care. When we checked out on 23/03/2026 the guy at reception literally said nothing. There was no asking how our stay was...nothing! I find this to be very rude and disrespectful. .I should point out that when we checked in on 18/03/2026 the guy at the desk was polite and check in was easy. A shame the other staff were not as courteous

The room they gave us, was not operated with an AC. It just a celling fan. That made trouble during high temperature.

Good value in the heart of San Francisco

Complete Lack of Responsibility
Pros:

Good location and nice boutique hotel.

Cons:

Kensington Hotel's valet staff damaged my front fender. When I presented this to the Hotel, they said I had to deal with the valet company which has never returned any of my calls after they took my claim. Avoid the hotel. They take no responsibility, but they'll take your money.

Pros:

The room and bathroom are very clean, the staff is friendly, I also appreciated the coffee with madeleines available in the lobby in the morning

Cons:

I stayed here six nights. Unfortunately, on one of the nights, water came down from the ceiling in my room's bathroom. The staff intervened and after two hours my room was changed. In light of the discomfort at night (I couldn't sleep and I had to move all my personal belongings) I would have expected more compensation than a late check-in. Management justified themselves by saying that they could do nothing else because the room had been paid directly to Booking.

Good location, good value and friendly staff.
Pros:

Standard hotel with standard room. The hotel is located in a touristy area which we liked. Also, the hotel is walking distance from Powell St. subway. Bonus...thank you for the water cooler. We loved it.

Cons:

No fan in the restroom, at least we couldn't tell.

Bed was wonderful! Great location. Beautiful and comfortable lobby. Discount at the Ulla restaurant next door. Love to open the window for cool breezes. Ceiling fan great and quiet. Could get tea kettle in room for tea making!! Water dispenser in lobby. Clean tub and terrazzo tile. Offer of port wine during evening hours. Some desk agents friendly and helpful others not so much. Lovely old hotel building. A good retreat from the Hilton conference madhouse! Room smelled fresh due to open window.

Cons:

Small room for two people going to conference. European size, tight desk space. Little drawer space. Carpet worn and not clean. Roaches in bathroom. No lotion provided. Breakfast service was good brewed coffee (yay!) but sweet prepackaged madeleines they called “biscuits.” Not breakfast…..coffee to get you going!

We would not stay there again as a family.
Pros:

The location was ideal for being downtown. The water filling station by the main door. The staff were nice and tried to help. The beds were comfortable.

Cons:

There was no consideration for families with children who needed two rooms to be beside each other. One of the rooms smelled like smoke, so we had to request a change. The other room, the TV didn't work, and the shower didn't work, and we had to wait for it to be fixed the next day. We ended up simply taking what they had, which was two rooms for our family, but 3 floors apart! To be honest, I think it was because we booked through booking.com and everything was prepaid, so they didn't give us any consideration, nor did they follow up, even though we emailed them directly after the first night. The rooms were hot, and the fan was creaking all night.

Great location with friendly staff
Pros:

The staff were all very friendly and accommodating and made good restaurant recommendations too. Very helpful during a mixed up Turo drop off situation. The water refilling station with different flavor options was so nice due to unseasonably warm weather. The location is safe and the lobby is very nice and clean.

Cons:

Wish there was a little more breakfast. The pre-packed pastry was underwhelming. The room door didn’t always latch when you just let the door shut behind you-just had to be careful.
