We spent two nights here as part of our mad dash tour of Norway. The hotel is in an old building but the communal areas and room (or at least our room) are beautifully presented. The only problem we had on arrival is that there was some ongoing maintenance involving a very pungent glue that, while not a health hazard, was a very strong smell that gave us both a headache when it permeated into the room (due to the service staff leaving the door open while they cleaned it). We brought this up with the reception desk staff who were completely understanding and we were able to move to a better room for no extra charge and they threw in a couple of other extras... this was very fair and we enjoyed the rest of our stay immensely. The staff were lovely and made us feel valued and welcome despite our short stay. Lovely location too... just opposite the parliament building... try doing that in London :-) While the glue issue made me want to not give the hotel a five star review the way the staff handled it was so good I decided to anyway and anyway it was a transient issue that will not likely affect anyone staying in the future... so it seems fair to me.
The Grand Hotel is a wonderful gem. We stayed in room 454 which was exceptionally clean and very quiet. I especially liked the comfortable bed and pillows. The historic Grand Cafe has a chill vibe for breakfast with many options such as fresh green and red juice and ginger shots. Karl Johans Gate is a delightful walking boulevard and a metro (T-Bain) is conveniently located on the same block. I highly recommend this hotel and will stay here again.
Had a tired old room with dust in the corners and the finish on the bed head worn and cracked off. Paid a premium price and was disappointed with the room. the lobby is lovely, but had to go to the bar to find someone to help with checking in, all the staff were out the back when we arrived. We stayed at another hotel next door at the start of our trip in Norway and it was much better than this one, and cheaper!!
Elegant and luxurious. We stayed in the Nobel suite. Worth the price. Great memories seeing the current Nobel Peace Prize winner on the balcony of the room we were in. Met several interesting international travelers at breakfast.
We keep coming back to Grand, again and again. Another excellent stay. The room had a view of the park and parliament. Super service, quality across the board. Breakfast in the restaurant is fresh and with a wide selection. Also had the continental breakfast in the room. Highly recommend, though the orange juice in the restaurant is better. Room service comes fast, they bring a bucket of ice if you ask for it. Would have wanted more options for the room service lunch menu, but can recommend both the fish and burger. Room service wine selection is decent. Will for sure come back.
I stayed at the Grand Hotel Oslo from Wednesday 3rd to Friday 5th December in room 370, which overlooks Arbeidergata, the street that runs between the east side of the Grand Hotel and the west side of the neighbouring Scandic Karl Johan hotel. I was not aware that this side of the hotel was directly over the loading bay of the hotel where, every morning from 05:30 onwards, trucks would arrive and depart, delivering supplies to the hotel, and multiple garbage trucks would arrive. Each garbage truck appears to have processed a different type of waste, with the crushing machinery on board the truck creating a deep, low frequency vibration that shook the entire side of the room. On Thursday morning, this took place for about 30 - 45 minutes. On Friday morning it began at 05:30 and continued until 08:00 - ie, 2.5 hours without sleep, and with an appalling headache from the vibration. I called the front desk and they did offer to move me but, at 06:00 in the morning, this wasn't really a practical option. This is an issue that must surely be long-standing and affect almost all rooms on that side of the hotel. On the third floor this means that, for all intents and purposes, guests should avoid at all costs rooms 370, 372, 374, 376, 378, 380 and 382. This probably also applies to the rooms immediately below, on the second floor, as well as to the rooms above. This is not the standard of stay you expect from a 5* hotel charging NOK 4,000 (EUR 340) per night. I gather the hotel is fully occupied for the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony next week. It's a shame there's no peace for guests at this hotel.
I just love Grand Hotel! Perfect location! Excellent rooms and service. Beautiful view from my room!
The Grand Oslo is in a perfect location and staff was friendly . The room we chose indicated courtyard view but in fact was 4 walls and dirty - has no views that anyone would be Ok with .,
Nice hotel, nice atmosphere, nice rooms!
In the middle of the city, close to everything. Always enjoyable!
Beautiful place to stay on a business trip to Oslo, unique atmosphere in an historic place, located in the center of Oslo, you can walk to the museums, harbor, Aker bridge, having a restaurant with excellent food
My home away from home. Luxury at its very best. The lobby, the rooms, the gym, the spa and last but not least the people. Will stay here every time I come to Oslo.
Location was fabulous and I loved staying in such a historic hotel. I didn’t take advantage of most amenities. I’m generally quite easy but husband found the beds quite hard, and the shower wasn’t strong.
It was our first time in Oslo and stay at the Grand Hotel was a great idea! Amazing hotel, very nice staff, best position in town… it was very nice stay in a such hostorical building! The bed was one of the best ever tried, and also che breakfast was a dream!
Booked a room to celebrate my birthday this weekend and got the Mikado Suite. I’m so satisfied! Such kind, helpful, and service-minded staff. Excellent value for money.
Old style period hotel with classic architecture and friendly helpful staff. However it goes down hill from there.
Too many steps, poor building maintenance, poor room design and much more
Would not stay here again.
Our room was as stunningly beautiful as the rest of the hotel. The staff was exceptional. I love the convenience of The location as well. We will be back again and again and again and again.
Gorgeous hotel! Friendly helpful staff! 10/10 .. Would definitely stay here again!
Did not use the spa but the shops were fine.
I booked the hotel for 2 weeks in October. Last night there was a lot of noise just below my room. Several women were talking very loudly and even screaming. They slammed the doors and laughed very loudly. I first woke up to the noise around 2 in the morning. I called the front desk and explained what was going on. The first thing they said was if the sound was coming from outside the hotel, they would not be responsible but they would check. After checking, they found out the noise was coming below my room, as I suspected. They said they ask them to stop. The noise stopped for about 5 to 10 minutes but started again. I call the desk again at 2:30 in the morning asking them to make these rude people stop making so much noise. They stopped again for a few minutes and started all over again! I called on last time a 4 am and the noise finally stopped. It should not have taken 2 hours for the hotel staff to stop this nonsense! I do not recommend this hotel to anyone who cares to have a good night sleep.
Arrived late in the evening and met with warm friendly service at the reception and quickly sorted with key to room. Room was nice and comfortable. Not the biggest room but nice nonetheless. I didn’t spend long in the hotel but the bar was a nice place to be and the breakfast was very slick with all food well presented. Location was superb for travel to and from the airport by train and for getting around Oslo. Upon checkout, the process was as smooth as check in and the staff friendly and efficiency.
