Sympathetic refurbishment of a historic building; excellent staff to assist.

We truly enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The staff was quite professional- they all were courteous and very helpful consistently. The hotel itself was beautiful and its location was just perfect for us. Our room was incredible..., we loved everything about it - nicely set up and beyond comfortable - especially having a balcony facing directly Plaza Mayor. Should be mentioned as well how ample and delicious their food was. We definitely recommend this hotel and are looking forward to stay there again when we visit Madrid.

The spa is a really nice option after being out all day.
Not the hotels fault but just be aware Uber can't pick up from the hotel it defaults to somewhere else down the street. Your better to let the hotel book a taxi for you it's the same price and a far better service

Room was spacious and attractive. Bed was exceptionally comfortable. Good shower. Facilities were spotless. Staff were welcoming and friendly and spoke to us in Spanish.
We had breakfast in the hotel on one morning. There was a good choice but at 50 euros for two not good value.

Beautiful historic building. Loved the indoor restaurant with the trees and outside cafe on the Plaza. Lovely little pool and sunbathing area. Unique place to stay.
Our room was too small. Could barely fit our luggage in and the bathroom was in the room. Very noisy as well at night. Someone doing bins at 12am.
Location, timely cleaning, breakfast
Unfortunately, several requests made during our stay could not be accommodated, which affected our overall experience.
Firstly, at check-in I asked whether it would be possible to shorten our stay from the three nights originally booked to two. I fully understand that the booking conditions stated that such a change was not permitted, and I had accepted those terms when making the reservation. Nevertheless, in my experience, many properties are willing to show some flexibility in these circumstances, so I was disappointed that no alternative could be offered and that I was required to pay the full amount for all three nights.
Secondly, at check-in I also asked whether we could see a few available rooms within the same category before choosing our room. Initially, we were told that this would be possible, but shortly afterwards we were informed that there were no other rooms available. The change in response was somewhat disappointing.
Another important issue concerned the sauna. The spa facilities were one of the factors that influenced my decision to choose this hotel over other nearby properties. However, the temperature inside the sauna was only slightly warmer than the general spa area and was far below what one would reasonably expect from a sauna. When I asked whether the temperature could be increased, my request was declined, with the explanation that the staff receive daily instructions regarding the temperature setting. I appreciate that the staff may have been following hotel policy, but ultimately I did not feel that the advertised sauna experience was actually provided.
Finally, the staff in the breakfast area were very friendly, polite and helpful. However, basic items such as hot milk and water regularly had to be requested rather than being readily available.
Overall, while I appreciated the kindness of the staff, I unfortunately did not feel that the experience justified the additional cost of staying at this property.
Location was incredible, the hotel was majestic & the breakfast was fantastic! would highly recommend this hotel to family & friends ! We were able to check in early which was so accommodating and really made our day in Madrid so we could explore the beautiful city.
This was our second stay at the Pestana Plaza Mayor and we cannot praise it enough! It’s beautiful, the rooms are very comfortable, the location can’t be beat and the rooftop pool and spa are wonderful. What sets it apart from others is the staff. They are so accommodating and go above and beyond, true hospitality! We definitely be back.

Clean, comfortable and updated. Great showers and beds. Breakfast buffet is delicious with options from menu as well. Lattes and Cappuccinos included too. Staff are great all around. Tremendous location and we felt like we were no more than 25 min walk from any of most sites.
We had dinner at their restaurant on the Plaza too which was a bit underwhelming but ok.
What an unbeatable location in the center of the impressive architecture and liveliness of Plaza Mayor! Yet this is a quiet hotel on a pedestrian neighborhood bordering la Latina and a block to the Mercado San Miguel. The bedrooms are well appointed and decorated, stylish. The rooftop deck and pool offer a stunning view over the rooftops of Madrid. The staff is absolutely kind. We had to call a doctor during our stay, and they took care of it.

Hotel has a great location next to Plaza del Sol on Plaza Mayor and pretty close to the Gran Via. It is noisy and with a lot of hustle, so select it if you are okay with it. I liked the hotels 2 pools, and even an underground heated one was refreshing in the heat. Breakfast was good with large selection of whatever you like. The restaurant courtyard was beautiful. Also liked the energy saving features of the hotel.
Not really much. Maybe I would want some more warm/hot food selection from the buffet that usually needed to be ordered. But I am also not sure if it was suppose to be traditionally cold. The room had some rusted metal between shower and toilet that might need to be replaced.
