Pros:

De kamer die ik had geboekt (deluxe met zeezicht) was heel fijn. Ruim en een goed bed. Heerlijke douche.

Cons:

Er was maar 1 restaurant open, wat meer op een kantine leek. Ik vind het bijzonder slecht dat er niet gecommuniceerd is dat alle restaurants en bars dicht waren. Hoewel het ontbijt wat er was goed was, was het geen 5 sterren ervaring. De keuze was beperkt, en nogmaals, de ambiance was niet fijn. Het was een kantine. In hetzelfde ‘restaurant’ waar we het ontbijt hadden was ook het diner. Enorm prijzig voor wat je kreeg. Ik bestelde een ceaser salad, dit bleek een halve krop ijsberg sla met wat droge kip en een mayonaise dressing te zijn. De carpaccio was geen carpaccio maar rookvlees met wat cherrytomaatjes. Ver onder de maat.

Helaas was er in de spa ook een sauna defect wat niet gecommuniceerd werd, toen ik er naar vroeg had niemand een idee wanneer het weer zou werken.
Kijk, het kan gebeuren dat iets niet werkt, maar hoe het personeel er mee omging was niet oké. Ik kom zelf uit de 5 sterren hotellerie en dit was verre van een 5 sterren service.

El desayuno es genial (calidad y variedad), así como el personal que es super agradable y las instalaciones están limpias y en buen estado. El gimnasio tiene todo lo que tiene que tener. El baño genial de tamaño. El hotel dispone de aparcamiento en la entrada gratis.

Cons:

Quizás la ubicación y que el Spa no estaba al 100 X 100. La habitación con dos butacas y algo más de espacio sería lo suyo.

Nice try but... not what we were hoping for.
Pros:

Nice location above Alvor - it's a fairly modern building, good breakfast with a focus on 'healthy' options, and the spa was excellent - hammam, sauna, salts room (never tried that!), small swimming pool. They take reservations, which I assume is so that it doesn't get too full. The room was spacious and well-equipped.

Cons:

The communication. I had to phone twice and email two addresses just to make sure the spa was booked, and there was a serious case of slopy shoulders when I queried the lack of response - we were also told that we couldn't use the hotel slippers in the spa. Since we hadn't brought our own slippers, we went to the spa with the room slippers and of course no one said anything. The spa was missing the hydrojets, and the (5-star!) restaurant was being refurbished - all understandable given it was January in the Algarve, but just tell us! Then we know what to expect! Unfortunately it left a sour taste, since I had specifically booked to have a thoroughly relaxing time at the hotel in between stressful work situations. Not anywhere near a 5-star experience, sadly. They also need to paint all the walls, as it's looking a bit worn inside.
First-world problems, sure, but it's irritating when you're paying a high rate.
