Aloft Madrid Gran Via

Spent 4 nights here on a trip to Madrid. Got a good rate and upgrade due to my Marriott status so that set the tone for my stay. Did not opt for daily breakfast as part of my room rate but did have it one day and took advantage of the generous offerings. Yogurt with fresh fruit, hot dishes including eggs and they had espresso drinks. Really could not think of anything missing. The location is fantastic. Walking distance to everything. My room was very quiet even though it faced the grand via. Good sound proofing. The bed was extremely comfortable with good selection of pillow firmnesses to choose from. There are two parts to the hotel. One facing the grand via and one facing the st. with the entrance. Both look fine but I think the ones facing the St. with the entrance seemed bigger with real bathrooms and desks. My room was great not huge but well laid out. The bathroom was sort of deconstructed which worked fine for me. It also had a fridge and table+ottoman so I could eat in the room if I wanted to. There is also a washer/dryer in the hotel you can use for 10euro a load which came in handy. There were a couple of drawbacks to this hotel, one of which l is that it did not have a restaurant on site. There are a number close by but I would have liked to just pop down for a bite without leaving the hotel. It is close to a grocery store so I ended up hitting that up a few times. Another down side was the pool terrance was not open. I had researched this and saw guidance it is open starting in May but when I asked they said they only open it when the temperatures get hot. This was a bummer since one of the reasons I chose this hotel was for the pool. But to be fair it was not super warm and I would have likely not sat by the pool as I had planned. The other quirky thing which I think is a me thing is I don't like when the lights turn off in the corridors. I know it saves energy but it's kind of creepy. I think that only happens in the section facing the grand via. Over all a good choice. Not super high end but really modern/well maintained and nice for the price and location.

The rooms are very small. No wash cloths. We were with a tour group and was told all our luggage would be in our rooms when we arrived. It wasn't it was piled up in the lobby. Then we were not told there is certain elevators for certain rooms so this tour group of 40 people were fumbling with the elevators trying to get to their rooms. Breakfast was minimal. The room was so small that if someone was standing at the end of the bed you could not get past them. The location was good. I would not go back and would not recommend to others.

Being a Marriott Titanium made this hotel an easy choice. It is a very convenient location, close to everything, surrounded by tons of restaurants and shops. The room is typical of the Aloft. Very nice layout with plenty of space for two. Nice work desk and plenty of plugs. The breakfast buffet is excellent and has everything we need. I will 100% stay here again when in Madrid.
