A city centre bargain for a (wet) midweek visit
Pros:

Half of Wales descended on Cardiff on a very wet Wednesday for the Deftones gig at Utilita, and this was a late decision booking. Price seemed very reasonable for a twin room with all the facilities I'd hope for.
Initial impressions weren't great, as the empty corridors were reminiscent of The Shining, but I actually took a real shine (pun intended) to the place and felt very relaxed. The room was big and spacious, as was the bathroom. Views from the windows were nice. The electric heater warmed the room and dried damp clothes excellently. The bed was comfy, and the high-pressure hot shower was much needed and appreciated the next morning. I would definitely hope to stay again for any returning visits I make, assuming the price is similar.
When we left in the morning there was an old guy cleaner who was really friendly and cheerful, and reception was cheerful and friendly also, I would definitely rate the staff highly.

Cons:

Finding out room was no easy task! Some lifts were out of order, and we walked into a few dead ends before finding our room was behind an extra set of doors, but we did laugh about it rather than being actually frustrated.
Being a listed building, the windows had additional layering, and half didn't seem to open at all, which I imagine would make room temperatures pretty unbearable in hot weather, just as a precautionary warning for summertime guests.
Didn't seem to be any wifi available, which wouldn't normally bother me but my phone signal seemed to be minimal also, so be warned if you are reliant on such things.

Hotel met grandeur!
Pros:

De entree is haast koninklijk zo mooi! Kamer was erg ruim. Alles is schoon en netjes! Zeer vriendelijk personeel.

Pros:

Great staff, great location, and spotlessly clean.

Cons:

Tired decor unsurprisingly in an old and once very grand hotel. It still seems to retain some charm though.
