This is our third year staying at the Shangri La Hotel with grandchildren. Feel qualified to compare just how we felt this time around. Presenting my booking at reception the receptionist I feel didn't understand just what I had booked through their booking team. In short, a suite of 2 rooms. Our wait at reception at 3 pm was around 20 mins and then I had to wait while my actual booking was confirmed. I would ring the day before to confirm just what I had booked in future. There were other guests who had similar frustrations - never before have we experienced the huge wait and misunderstanding. Having two grandchildren of 5 and 7, it was not the best of situations.
We were then told that the hotel had no restaurant at the present which was doing evening meals. You could order room service or eat at The Pool Bar. Normally wouldn't bother us all too much but weather being consistent rain and where we ate over across the park etc. just meant we had to factor in time walking there.
We always find the staff helpful, cheerful and happy to oblige.
This year 2026, I would give the hotel a rating of around 7/8 out of 10. Its location is superb, just unfortunate that they
had a new restaurant under construction which we didn't know about and what seemed like a lack of wait staff, reception people and a concierge available at times.

Room was very nice and modern.
Spacious and very comfortable. Beds were super comfortable. Coffee machine was a welcome bonus.
Check in took a little longer than expected.
Location very central to everything
I have stayed many times in the past but not recently. The room was well priced, clean and modern, the pool is great, i also thought the room service menu was very good value. Will be returning soon!

Nothing went well at all.
1. Rooms looked like a 1 star place, very basic; no amenities as expected from a 5-star properties; dirty passages; very limited staff at the front desk, and most did not even know about their products. For example, there is an American staff and I asked that no one kept English Breakfast tea in the room that morning. His reply: "The hotel is short of English Breakfast tea and is not available". This was such a lie and later when I asked the cleaning lady outside my room, she handed me few sachets of that tea. The coffee shop is very basic, and the preparations were below standard.

2 mins walk to the pier where every boat/tour leaves from. Towels provided for reef etc - slept really well, nice and quiet

$500 bond - high compared to other hotels. Luckily I knew this but could be an unexpected expense to others. And takes 7 days to reappear in your account after checking out.
The pool. Very comfortable beds and pillows,great shower and lovely views.
Just the corridor to the rooms needs a bit of upgrading, like a coat or pain and new carpets but decor and finishing inside the rooms was superb as well as the front entrance
