Hotel American-Dinesen

Lovely hotel in the more residential Dosoduro area of Venice. Very quiet section,especially at night.
You are around the corner from the Peggy Guggenheim home/ museum. That should give you a sense of the area.

We had a room with a small terrace and it was splendid to sit out there in the late afternoon and watch the gondolas go by or the groceries being delivered by boat.

Pretty room, photos are reasonably accurate, helpful front desk, no real cocktail lounge..

My only suggestion and caveat: the shower floor is slippery. Grab bars are cheap.

This hotel was excellent. Great location, close to Accademia bridge and Vaporetto station. Moderately priced with a few rooms for 4 people! I booked 3 other hotels before I found this gem! It was exactly what we were looking for! Complimentary breakfast (which was great), modern and large family rooms! I would book this hotel again!

Lovely, quiet location but not far to walk to the centre and near the academia bridge. Well worth paying for the rooms with canal view, which also gets the sun on the balcony late afternoon/early evening. Lovely decor and clean throughout. Staff very friendly and attentive. I wasn’t expecting the breakfast to be up to much but it was very good, lots of choice and all very tasty.

Tolle Lage. 15 Minuten zu Fuß zum Markusplatz. 5 Minuten zu Fuß zur Uferpromenade in Zattere und nach Dorsoduro.

Lovely stay at Hotel American Dinesen. We booked direct through the hotel website foe thr best price and was allocated a room on the 3rd floor with res damask wallpaper, comfy bed and lovely wooden beams at the ceiling.

Staff was warm and friendly, gave us maps and instructions on the landmarks nearby. Location-wise, it’s in the quieter part of Venice so plenty of nice, quiet canals, friendly restaurants without the heaving crowds of St Mark’s Square.

It’s about 4-5 min walk to Accademia vaporetto station and the iconic wooden bridge with fantastic views of the Grand Canak during sunrise and sunset. So near the Peggy Guggenheim museum as well.

Highly recommend the Ai Cugnai 1911 restaurant two minutes away for a good lunch or dinner.

Only bug was we didn’t get housekeeping despite hanging a ‘make up the room’ sign at the door. We had to request for fresh set of towels and someone to clear the rubbish which we knotted in the bag provided.

The rather fierce Indian staff was blaming us for hanging the sign the wrong way round, although I made sure it was on the right way round before leaving. Both sides of the sign was the same colour which may have misled the housekeeper. I felt that the staff could just apologise for the oversight instead of instructing us quite loudly and bluntly to just don’t leave the sign outside the door.

So my suggestion to the hotel is to change the ‘make the room/do not disturb’ sign’ to different sided colours. Would have rate it as a perfect stay except for that.

Excellent in every way.

The location of the Hotel American-Dinesen was perfect. Located in the quieter area of Dorsodouro, it's a fabulous hotel. Easy to get to the major attractions and to the water transportation vehicles. Restaurants close by, a lovely hotel. Rooms were well appointed, staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was a bonus, very good. Would highly recommend this hotel - has all the amenities one would need.

We just stayed at Hotel American-Dinesen for our second time. We love this hotel. It is in a wonderful location in Venice - very easy to walk or take traghetto to St Mark's Piazza. The staff is wonderful! From the helpful front desk, cleaning staff and wonderful breakfast staff. The small balcony off our room on the side canal is so enjoyable to watch all the water activity of the neighborhood. A real gem and we will return.
