I am frequent travelers and I made it sure that I will be staying if I am in Los Angeles area especially in ktown. The hotel location is in the middle of ktown, close to all restuarants, grocery and few minutes away by metro train to DTLA. Located in the safest area in LA and the property itself has security by itself that you cannot by pass. Room and wide and clean, the front desk every time I check in area nice people. I will highly recommend to all travelers if they come to LA, try considering Shelter Hotel for your unique experience.
BEWARE! These are non-refundable rooms for a reason. Once you walk into the lobby, you'll want your money back. The rooms are even worse. I stayed here 15 years ago and it was a fun, hip, boutique hotel in Koreatown. The pictures on the listing looked like what I remembered. But when we arrived to check-in, the place was a disaster. Plastic sheeting and construction everywhere, everything in sight was broken or worn, and the place smelled of mildew or water damage. Our room had furniture that looked like an animal had clawed at it. My fiancé made the mistake of touching the bathroom door frame and put her hand in mystery goo. We felt uncomfortable and unsafe and told the desk we were leaving. They couldn't have cared less. They almost took pride in the fact that there would be no refund. They also refused to grant any money back when Expedia intervened. Horrible experience all around.
Not bad for what it was
Great hotel for our business trip. The reception staff in the mornings were very friendly throughout our stay and very helpful with whatever we needed.
The staff is really nice and friendly. Super helpful.
This is hard to share as I've been staying at this hotel since 2013. The time has come to renovate the rooms and freshen things up.
Very nice
The staff was super friendly
Positives: Convenient location in Ktown, spacious rooms, well appointed bathroom, friendly, helpful, responsive staff
Negatives: Property needs to be better cleaned and maintained. Spots and stains on window shades and curtains, burned out light bulb, pool has lots of yucky stuff floating in it
I am disabled and cannot move very well but they demanded I get out by 11. they were mean. and threw Mr out of the shower sand mty things. I want half rewfund
No real complaints about the property but nothing really stood out either. I’d stay there again.
They knew I am disabled and treated me if I could use my left leg without severe pain. I had to mo ask for help rmmto get my barks upstair
They replied we don’t do that there is no staff after l4PM. I asked for a dolly limping along in pain. Then when the room was right next to elevator I had fire innmybeyes. How mean
Great experience and definitely would boon again.
I only would choose this place for location. Otherwise, there are some rough edges I just couldn’t think it is okay. For example, the shower was half broken, not enough charging port, and cleanliness around the room.
It was alright
It was clean and the staff what very nice, Luis was very nice also the young lady that was there was also very friendly. The older gentleman not so much, he was actually a bit short and rude. The room was clean and everything worked. I do Wish there was a microwave in the room it was a little inconvenient to run down to the lobby to warm up food. I would consider returning in the near future.
My partner and I are overall very pleased with this hotel! Frankly we went in a little nervous based on some reviews we saw mentioning rude employees and bugs but we encountered neither. Staff was friendly and accommodating and the room was comfy and clean enough. The grout in the bathroom was maybe not 100% spotless and the window exterior was dirty but those things are minor and considering the fair price and great location we can’t complain. The hotel was easily walkable to food, drinks, and retail, but far enough so there wasn’t much street noise.
Our only complaint is that the bedside table lamp (just one table and lamp for a king size bed) made a concerning buzzing sound and would flicker on and off. We ended up just not using it. But in the grand scheme of things it didn’t put a damper on our stay and I’d absolutely consider booking here again.
The lobby and facilities were nice, and as far as being in K-Town goes you could do worse. However, the sheets on our bed were consistently dirty and stained. I believe clean sheets and a clean room, above all else, should be the bare minimum.
The the staff's credit when we asked for a change on the first day they did so quickly and added clean ones, but during our last night when they replaced them as part of their daily cleaning they were dirty again.
I stayed at Shelter because I saw it was rated highly for people traveling alone. I had an excellent stay there and will be recommending it to all my friends. My goal was to visit as many museums as possible during a 4 day stay.
From Shelter you can take the bus down Wilshire to:
LaBrea Tar Pits
LACMA
The Academy of Motion Pictures
Peterson Automotive (I did not get to this one but would visit next time!)
You can take the Metro to:
The Broad
MOCA (did not visit this one but next time!)
You are close to three fabulous breakfast spots:
Open Market, Egg Tuck and Donut King
The Hotel was so clean! And very quiet and I had the pool to myself in the afternoon.
Koreatown was a great choice - I felt safe and the staff was very nice! I also had two Uber drivers and one bartender who lived in K-Town so that tells me it is a good neighborhood.
For the most part very nice. Short walk to Korean town. 1 block is a nice restaurant and grocery store. Rooms are big.
However, my view was into somebody's apartment with their balcony full of trash. No privacy curtains in room.
WARNING: There is a $20 fee added on each night for reason unclear. This is not a resort.
Probably would stay here again.
