Highly recommended 11/10
Pros:

Stayed at Foxglove lodge for 3 nights and dined at the crown. We were blown away by the quality of food and comfort and peach of the lodge. Such a remote and beautiful countryside with many places to walk. Manager was really helpful, gave us a map and everything.
We will definitely be back 100% - my only wish… was that I want to live there now 🤣

A delightful lunchtime experience.
Pros:

I cannot stress how helpful and considerate our waitress and the chef were in accommodating my food intolerances. I was made to feel welcome and nothing was too much trouble for them. The service and food was excellent and the apple tarte tatin was amazing! And our dogs were welcomed too!

Overpriced, disappointing
Pros:

Disappointing. This used to be my favourite place to eat but I doubt I will be going again. I ordered a burger which was tasty but arrived with what I would describe as frozen mass produced straight cut chips, no garnish whatsoever. My burger looked somewhat lost on the plate I can only describe it as a minimalist meal. My dark chocolate gateau promised to be a delight but again although tasty was no bigger than a Kipling sponge pudding and was a whopping £11. The ambiance has changed, it was loud due to groups of drinkers a far cry my the sophisticated environment for a family meal it once was. Not worth the money whatsoever.

Not good
Pros:

Been here a lot of times over the years but today was disappointing.I appreciate they advertise as a dog friendly establishment but I feel when you book you should have the option to be seated away from tables with dogs.We went for a Sunday roast & we had dogs on every table around us.I know we’re the rare people that don’t have pets but when your trying to eat you meal & there’s a table next to you letting there dog eat of their plate,I don’t really think that’s nice when your out for a nice meal..Love the pub but disappointed.

Bad food
Pros:

4 stars for room etc. but only 1 star for evening meal.
Celebrating my 70th birthday, had been to The Crown before, this time we booked one of the new lodges which was lovely. Nice warm friendly gentleman greeted us and showed us to the lodge.
Unfortunately the evening meal was a let down. Undercooked rubber scampi and salt on chips which wasn't shown on menu, and I am on a low salt diet so was very disappointed with the whole meal. Waiter was very good offered to have a new meal cooked but I declined.
Breakfast was very good, pity the previous days meal wasn't as nice.

Loved it here!
Pros:

We stayed here for the night doing the bed, dinner and breakfast package for our anniversary.
We were welcomed by a lovely lady called Fran that showed us to our room.
Room was lovely a big! Fridge and fresh coffee. There was a fan, iron and hairdryer provided. Our room had beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. Bed was really comfortable.

Dinner, the had a good choice of food and had specials up on the board. Our drink order were done so fast we were very impressed. Food was amazing no issue found at all!

Breakfast- had a breakfast table with cold items which was great and then you could order from the menu. Had there full English which was really good! Fresh and good quality produce.

My only issue that I found and it nothing major but a suggestion to look at it actually having a reception desk.

Loved it here and we will come back as we would like to stay in the lodges at some point!

An Ok experience
Pros:

It was a busy Saturday night and we were shown to our booked table. There was a mix up with our drinks order which delaye the final delivery.
3 0f us had the sea bass and out of the 3 dishes I received the smallest. I chose not to complain as it was busy. for £24 I expected more than a small half fillet.

Birthday Treat at The Crown
Pros:

Yes , at &70 for lunch for a couple that see these trips out as a real treat the food should be good. It’s was fantastic, Sea Bream cooked to perfection, my Pork tenderloin was succulent and well seasoned. However, the top shout goes out to lovely Lucy. Working the Summer season showing passion for the Crown and customer service beyond her years. Happy birthday to my wife Lou, and a big tick to anyone taling their special someone to The Crown in Stoke By Nayland. Fantastic ❤️

Overnight stay and Festival
Pros:

Overnight stay happened to be when Beer and Cider festival was on. Had fabulous weather so an very enjoyable evening. Good event, the team worked very hard to put it on. In terms of The Crown, we had a very enjoyable stay. Staff helpful and friendly. Dinner was good quality and nice accompanying wine list. Accommodation was good, excellent shower! Room was quite hot but bearable. Good breakfast, cooked was very good but buffet selection seemed a little lacking when compared to other Chestnut places we have stayed at. This is only a minor observation and in no way tainted our stay. We will come back

Lovely break!
Pros:

We had a dinner, bed and breakfast stay, the room was lovely and the food was excellent! The person who served us our evening meal was really good, knowledgeable and entertaining.
The very well-tended garden must be one of the best pub gardens around.

Underwhelming and expensive
Pros:

Was expecting a top notch Sunday lunch considering the price point, however was extremely disappointed with an underwhelming meal.
Building and surroundings pleasant enough, obviously would rather stack the customers in where they can as tables so close together you have to squeeze past other diners.

Had an early booking as it was apparent The Crown gets busy and to get the first round of roasties etc rather than reheated later in the day.

Sadly the whole meal was lukewarm and the gravy wasn’t even hot to warm the food up.
Broccoli had lovely green stem but the florets tops were yellow, new variety? No, as other roast had lovely green floret tops.
Yorkshire pudding nice on outside, doughy and eggy inside, had to scrape the innards off as it wasn’t pleasant in taste or texture.
5 little bits of carrot, cooked ok but again lukewarm as was the cabbage, even though under the beef which should have kept the heat in, but didn’t because, yes you guessed it, that was lukewarm too!
To be fair the beef was tasty, tender, but why ask if you want it rare or well done if it all comes out the same (well done).
Roasties, the ultimate test of a good roast dinner, very poor, lukewarm, tough as if had been cooked early doors and left out all morning, maybe that’s why everything was lukewarm, pre plated and they forgot to nuke it when the order was sent out?
The gravy, what little there was was again lukewarm and bland.
Sad to say for £25 it was probably one of the worst roast dinners I’ve had. Ate most of it as I was hungry and didn’t have brekkie as I was expecting a good feast.
Probably won’t return as had much better meals about £7/£8 cheaper, and better atmosphere and less cramped.
Expected more from this company and establishment.

Fabulous venue and delicious food
Pros:

Lovely gardens for a summer lunch. The grounds are beautiful and well tended. Lovely extensive menu that offer small plates as well as larger mains. Thouroughly enjoyed the small haddock and chips which came with a small pot of mushy peas and a small pot of tartare sauce. The batter was lovely and crispy and didn’t taste fatty at all, equally the chips. My friend had the burger, which was a tower filled with lettuce, tomato and slaw to accompany the burger. She was a little disappointed the slaw was a meagre offering in the burger rather than a more substantial side.
