Home away from home
Pros:

The Lowell has become so much more than our favorite hotel in New York City-it has become our home away from home.
After our first stay at the Lowell we decided to hold our wedding there. The wedding was handled with extraordinary care, elegance, and gracious hospitality.
The beauty of the hotel is timeless, but what makes The Lowell truly exceptional is the people-the service is warm, personal and consistently impeccable.
We now stay at The Lowell when we visit family in NYC, and each visit reminds us why we keep coming back. On our most recent arrival, the bellman greeted us with the words, “welcome home”. Those simple words perfectly captured how we feel every time we walk through the doors.
There are many beautiful hotels in New York City , but The Lowell creates the feeling that we truly belong. When we are in NYC it is our comfort zone and sanctuary.
We are deeply grateful to the people at The Lowell for making every stay so memorable, and for treating us not as guests but as family.

A true delight and oasis in the city
Pros:

Just left the Lowell after just a one night stay, and I can safely say everyone there already feels like family. From the welcome at the front door to the check-in and the tour of the room, our arrival made us feel incredibly at home, and this continued through breakfast in the Pembroke Room and drinks and nibbles in Jacques. The whole place has a lovely warm welcoming feel. We stayed in room 6C, which was perfect—quiet, a beautiful bathroom, lots of storage. We had booked through Amex FHR, and the welcome gifts were lovely and beautifully presented, the cocktails at Jacques were exquisite, and the breakfast was plentiful and tasty. We met Patricia, the guest relations director, not long before we left and she really went the extra mile to make our stay memorable. Truly wonderful! Her warmth and friendliness were just so delightful. We’ll miss the Lowell very much and hope to return very soon.

Step away from the “Brands”
Pros:

Take a break from the hustle and bustle of NYC and immerse yourself in luxury and elegance at The Lowell. Personal service. Exquisite dining. Not your typical commoditized brand. All its own. We had a fantastic stay. Cannot wait to return.

Wonderful high end boutique hotel on the Eastside.
Pros:

Wonderful high end boutique hotel on the Eastside. Worth the price. Quiet and comfortable. Bar can get a bit crazy with loud crowd, especially when the club is being used for a private party (which is often). restaurants are a bit too much a NY scene.

Superb in every aspect.
Pros:

The rooms are excellently maintained and spacious compared to other NYC small hotels. The staff are uniformly pleasant , professional and competent. The bar, restaurant and breakfast service are all superb. Particularly pleasant is the library room for tea, cocktails or conversation.

Feel like family in quiet elegance
Pros:

We feel like this is our “home” when we go into Manhattan for little staycations! It is unassuming elegance with friendly service and an Upper East Side townhouse vibe. Also, it’s one of the few family-owned hotels in NYC and you can feel the attention that results. It’s a small property that you could easily miss if you were just walking by.

It’s just off Madison Avenue, but the hotel feels very residential. We drive in and feel a sense of calm as soon as we pull our car out in front and a bellman and doorman come to greet us. I love that they’ll send up some beverages to the room when we arrive. There is a great little restaurant that serves a lovely high tea, a breakfast room, fitness center, bar, and lounge area.

I book through the Leaders Club membership, but you could easily also book directly through the hotel’s website. We’ve stayed here a number of times, and I do have to say that this time there were a few “glitches.” One was that it was never expressed to us that while our suite category said on the booking site that we can ask for a room with a terrace, which I did in the requests section, it never mentioned that there was an extra $200 charge for that. The hotel calls you before your arrival, and I had asked for a terrace verbally then, too, and the hotel person on the phone never mentioned that either. So we were a bit surprised when we got the folio and had to call to ask about it. We likely would have accepted this to get the terrace anyway, but it was the surprise that annoyed me.

Also, a couple of days later we got a revised folio that had a mini bar charge of more than $50 when we just had one bottle of tonic from the mini bar. I called and it turned out that they had made an error and put someone else’s charge onto our account. Of course they immediately fixed this.

All in all, though, we love this place and would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to feel taken care of and have a calm respite in Manhattan.

Our favorite place to stay in NYC
Pros:

This was our third time to stay at this hotel and we love it more and more each time. The staff is so friendly, the hotel is beautiful and comfortable. Even when it's busy, it never feels stressful. It's a wonderful retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Disappointing.
Pros:

The Lowell is lovely but not in winter. The whole hotel was underheated and many complained. Their resturant Majorelle is to be strictly avoided. The food is good but not outstanding and exorbitantly priced. $900 for two including four glasses of ordinary wine and tip. I saw a woman hand the maitre d' some money (in an obvious way) and was shown to an excellent table in the center of the restaurant. We did not bribe the maitre d' and were given a bad table in a corner. I asked for a similar table the woman was given and was told "no." Literally. The hotel's small bar "Jacques" is delightful and recommended. You can order food there. At $1400 per night you're better off not staying at the Lowell.
