The decor is beautiful. From the grand main entrance to the refuge restaurant/bar and the rooms. It’s really one of a kind.

Great character property in a great location

Fabulous as always, my go to hotel whenever am in the area
The location was great, the main foyer was beautiful and staff were available at all hours. It was easy to get into the hotel late at night too which was good.
It wasn’t easy to stop outside of the hotel to drop off luggage but the NCP car park was very close, which was easy to find, and the hotel sorted out the parking charges, with the hotel discount, so we could come and go freely.
I didn’t like that it describes itself as a high end 4 star hotel, but it definitely wasn’t. There was grout missing from bathroom floor, paint touch ups didn’t match in colour in the bathroom and there were hooks missing with empty screw holes on the door.
Also at breakfast the staff although friendly told me if they heated up my pancakes they’d have to do it for everyone so they had to check if I was allowed! Breakfast items were not freshly made, ie pancakes and waffles, they were shop bought and heated up.
The pillows were uncomfortable and the room was cold, the heating kept turning off, or was turned off by staff during room servicing. The heating was also very noisy and kept me awake a lot.
I also didn’t like finding someone’s eyelash extensions on the bedroom floor!

Great location, ten minute walk from train station.,Nice grand entrance.. Spacious room.. comfy beds.. fridge in room.. Nice bathroom.. Lovely breakfast..
Frustrating double-charge system for breakfastWhen we checked in, we were offered breakfast for £20 per person. We accepted and I explicitly asked the receptionist if I should pay now or at checkout. She told me to pay now, so I paid the £40 immediately with my card.However, at checkout, they charged our hold card an additional £47 for breakfast. When I queried this, I was told the initial £40 from check-in was only a "pending" charge. This is bizarre and incredibly frustrating. We now have to wait for them to release the £40 back into my account so I can transfer it to my daughter, who owns the hold card they charged.The communication around payments needs drastic improvement. Watch your bank statements if you stay here.
